Thank you for picking up a copy of your local community magazine which is filled with news, information, features and much more. There will be no mention of the weather this month, as I really can’t find any suitable words to describe it... I’m simply throwing open the curtains each day and just dealing with whatever season it is! The next couple of months are set to be really exciting as July kicks off carnival season and who doesn’t like a good carnival! There are 18 carnival events happening across the island in July and August with a mixture of children’s, main and illuminated. I think we can safely say there will be something for everyone. On page 12 you will find a handy list of locations, dates and times to cut out and keep so you don’t miss out. On a more serious note we have got together with Andy Hollebon of the Organ Donation Committee, Isle of Wight NHS Trust to bring awareness about the changes happening to organ donation next year and the importance of discussing your wishes with your family. You will find this feature on page 16. I hope you all have a great July and I look forward to catching up with you again soon.

News Report from Cllr Paul Fuller - 45 Oxford Street, Northwood, PO31 8PT. Telephone: 01983 289595 - Email: paulfulleriw@gmail.com Planning Applications - If you are considering applying for planning consent, please talk to your neighbours beforehand! Often, I am approached by distressed residents concerned by neighbours applications. From experience, and with hindsight, I recognise that if neighbours were approached beforehand, that time, money and bad feeling could have been be avoided. Again, if intending to apply the Planning Department also provides a pre-application advice service. Bucklers View Planning Application - Thank you to residents who attended, and fedback comments on the above application. Following this, I’ve sought support from Officers in requesting the height and dominance of the building is stepped down, parking constraints are overcome and conditions put in place to mitigate construction traffic and its impact. In addition, I have requested that housing is prioritised for residents with a local connection.

order can be actioned by officers being seconded to the Island from Hampshire County Council. Carriageway Resurfacing Updates - Terminus Road, Carvel Lane, Gurnard Heights and Crossfield Avenue are due to be resurfaced in July, Worsley Road is on course to be resurfaced in September. Please note that timescales may slip! Grass Cutting - Action has been taken to cut verges in the Crossfield Estate and Gurnard. This follows reduced cuts by the IW Council to ‘support wildlife’, as well as save money. Officers have reminded me that current grass cutting exceeds the statutory minimum… However, concerns have been expressed by the amount of weeds. Parking: Can you help? - To improve parking provision, do you have off-road parking that you would be prepared to enter an arrangement with neighbours or residents/ commuters to park? If so, please let me know!

News report from Cllr Paul Fuller continued Worsley Road Parking Consultation - Thank you to those who returned their parking survey for Worsley Road, which followed (and supports through evidence) requests for parking restrictions. The response rate for the drop and collect survey stands at +50% of the 110 households surveyed responding. Initial feedback shows: On the Worsley Road/ Church Road junction: 72% support a 24hr parking restriction; 7% support a limited restriction and 20% support no restriction. On the Worsley Road/ Glen Place junction: 43% support a 24hr parking restriction; 13% support a limited restriction and 41% support no restriction Between Gurnard Press and the junction with Westbrook Lane, Worsley Road: 37% support a 24hr parking restriction; 20% support a limited restriction and 39% support no restriction.

• Northwood Parish Council has shared a letter received from the Minister for Housing and Planning concerning the ability of Councils to determine their own housing numbers. In light of this, supported by the MP, I continue to challenge Planning increasing numbers to 641 per annum. • Meetings continue concerning the forthcoming English Coastal Path consultation. It is anticipated the final proposal will include the Medina Estuary, will ‘hug’ the coastline and will be more off-road than the existing coastal path. • Do you suffer from anti-social parking across your driveway? If so, please let me know. If you make a complaint through me to parking services, I can ensure enforcement is pursued. • Volunteers are needed to drive local community buses. If you are interested please let me know!

What’s happening in our area by ‘Local and Vocal’ Lora Peacey-Wilcox RESIDENT PERMITS: Are likely to happen in the following roads: Bridge, Pelham, Thetis, York St. This means unless you have a permit for your road you will not be allowed to park there (although there is a 2 hour exemption in a small area). There is a cost for the permits, so please let me know if you have concerns. SHELTER ON PARADE: Delighted that Gowan (and his team) from Trevor Jones have done an absolutely superb job of the shelter; it’s the best its looked in years. This could not have been achieved if the Cowes Town Council had not agreed to take ownership of it. I hope she will stand proud for many years and give much enjoyment - and shelter to many. I so love the yacht theme. POLLING STATION: Super to see so many of you at the polling station. Keep in touch over issues that affect you. Good to hear how pleased you are that Pelham Rd has now been resurfaced….only 2 years late!! FREE PAINT FOR CHARITIES: Don’t forget you can take all your unused paint to Lynnbottom which then gets given free to charities and organisations that need it. Charities don’t forget to ask for it! BIG LUNCH: Great to see so many local faces. A super event with near perfect weather conditions. Thanks to all who organise and thanks to those that supported the event. VANDALISM: Continues to be an issue up and around the skate park; particularly with broken bottles... considering the amount of youngsters and dogs I cannot understand peoples mentality. If you need to report a 10

problem call the town clerk: 01983 209022 OFF ROAD PARKING: I know many of you have approached Island Roads with regard to having off road parking, only to be told that ‘legislation has changed’; I have asked the Cabinet member to find out if this is advisory or compulsory... I await with baited breath to let you know. I will continue to fight for residents to have off road parking. KARL & DAVID East Cowes Town Council: My sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone that made the 200 anniversary so brilliant in East Cowes. I loved every minute of it. Thanks to all those that came out and supported. AGG. SHOW (County Show): Gosh am I looking forward to this years event! The household cavalry... whoop whoop! Sunday 30th June. Look up their website: www. iwcountyshow.co.uk if you book your tickets online its cheaper too! See you all there! NORTHWOOD HOUSE: Sun 7th July Regular car boot, but themed ‘Wedding & Bridal’. Do your family know whether you want to be an organ donor? Have you ever talked about organ donation with them? If the answer is no, then you’re not alone; sadly, many donation opportunities are lost every year because families don’t know if their loved one wanted to be a donor. From spring 2020, all adults in England will be considered an organ donor when they die unless they had recorded a decision not to donate or are in one of the excluded groups. Even with a change in the law next year we need more people to talk about organ donation to increase the number of transplants that happen. It will be just as important in 2020 to join the Organ Donation Register and discuss your wishes with family and friends as it is now. You can record your decision to opt in or out on the Organ Donor Register. Those excluded will be people under 18, people who have lived in England for less than 12 months or who are not living here voluntarily, and people who lack the capacity to understand the change. Adults covered by the change will still have a choice whether they want to be an organ donor and which organs they would like to donate, and their families will still be involved before organ donation goes ahead. In the UK…… • Around 6,000 people There’s no time like the present to talk about it. Nationally across the UK are waiting for millions of people are on the NHS Organ Donor Register an organ transplant already but only one in every hundred will die in • Three people a day die in circumstances where they could donate, so every donor is need of a transplant due to precious. The Island’s Organ Donation Committee want to start a support group for everyone with an interest in organ donation – friends and family of donors, donor recipients and anyone else with a particular interest.
