Diary of a Yoga Journey Part two
G A Property Services EXPERIENCED•RESPONSIBLE•RELIABLE
Yoga has slotted very easily into my life and can be fitted in around my daily routine and work life. I don’t see it as a chore and I don’t need specialist equipment or need to go to a gym or anywhere specific to practice it. The benefits I’m seeing at this early stage are all the motivation I need.
Do you need help to keep your property maintained?
Obviously I knew the importance of breathing before, but now I understand it to a much deeper level and how I can control it and use it for a better quality of life.
Please call Guy on 01983 532919 or 07531084727
My teacher, Nickie Short is amazing at what she does and she listens to me about problem areas in my life and can see the changes I need to make to move forward so I can be in a better position physically and mentally. I have spoken to her about my asthma which at this time of year is not being as controlled as much as I would like, so she incorporated movements to improve lung capacity and to help me synchronise movement with breath. From previous lessons I have also used the breath awareness techniques to assist when I’m wheezy and have to use my inhaler more than normal. Nickie has taught me a variety of techniques which leave me feeling energised and I can feel my body waking up. The stretches are all working to improve mobility, release tension and bring awareness, whether it’s a pelvic tilt, shoulder rolls, the stepped breath (viloma), Kati Chakrasana or Tadasana, the palm tree pose they are all playing a vital role in my well being and self awareness.

Welcome to the November issue of your local community magazine which is bursting at the seams with news, information, event details, advertisers and so much more. November 5th is Guy Fawkes and although watching the fireworks is great fun please remember that animals aren’t keen on them. If you are holding your own event please let your neighbours know in advance so they can take the appropriate action of keeping any family pets indoors. For an amazing time without the hassle have fun at one of the many organised events happening across the island. You will find all the information on our ‘dates for your diary’ section on pages 6, 7 and 8 which are filled with an assortment of events including Christmas fayres and winter carnivals. If you are holding a community event in December please email us the information and we will include it in next months diary section. I hope you all enjoy this months issue and I look forward to catching up with you next month with the Christmas edition. Have a great November...

News Report from Cllr Paul Fuller - 74 Wyatts Lane, Cowes, PO31 8QA. Telephone: 01983 289595 - Email: paulfulleriw@gmail.com Southern Vectis Meeting - I met with the General Manager of Southern Vectis. Since receiving complaints there was progress on improving access adjacent to Newport Library. Further improvements are planned for Ryde bound buses.
month to consider options to repair railings between Gurnard Green to the Royal Yacht Squadron. In light of corrosion through lack of funds for maintenance, a bid has been made for next year’s budget.
Improving capacity on the route between Cowes and Newport was acknowledged. It was highlighted that single decked buses have 29 seats, whilst the growing number of loadings exceed 30. This means often buses arrive at St Mary’s Hospital or Cowes Medical Centre with new passengers required to stand. It was shown that often there are vacant seats at the rear of buses, however these could not be accessed by mobility impaired passengers due to bottlenecking at the front.
Telecommunications Mast, Cliff Farm, Gurnard - Please note the new mast located off Hornhill is for Vodaphone customers.
Options requested include increased journeys per hour (with new single decked buses?), or having some services using double decked buses terminating at Carvel Lane. Please let me know your suggestions to improve route 1! Alternatively, please contact Southern Vectis direct at: hello@ southernvectis.com or call: 0330 0539 182.
Bonfires - I continue to receive concerns over bonfires, what the law states and advice. For details please visit: http://paulfullercc. blogspot.com/2014/11/iw-councillors-reportnovember-2014.html. Hard copies of this report is available from Cowes Library and Gurnard Press. Footprint Trust - From 10:30-11:30am, Friday 23rd November at Cowes Library a drop in session has been arranged by Cowes Town Council for residents wanting to save money through switching energy suppliers and efficiency measures through the Footprint Trust Charity. The Trust advises that on average householders can save £200 per year on utility bills following their free consultations. Please visit http:// footprint-trust.co.uk/ or call 01983 822282 for further information.
Japanese Knotweed removal, Land adjacent to Dottens Farm - Work has commenced off Baring Road, as part of the programme to remove Japanese Knotweed. I am the site owners have no intention to commence development ahead of the planning permission Gurnard Pines - A drop-in will tentatively take place 2-4pm, Thursday 15th November at as advertised last month. Gurnard Pines Café. Because this work and its requirement to erect fencing and toilets does not represent development, it can be undertaken without permission.
In attendance will be myself, The Footprint Trust as well as agencies that can offer Health and Social care support to residents. If residents are not able to make it to the drop-in, the agencies are happy to visit residents in their Seafront Railings - Myself, Local Council colleagues and the IW Council are meeting this home on the day.
News report from Cllr Paul Fuller continued Details will be confirmed on my website and through a letterdrop to residents. Pavement Cycling, Cowes/ Gurnard Seafront - Please continue to let me know your thoughts concerning cycling on Cowes/ Gurnard Seafront. Should: a) Cycles be restricted from using the pavement? b) Should cycles be segregated from pedestrians using the pavement? c) No change occur? Please let me know your thoughts before Friday 23rd November. Full Council - At Council, I was one of three Councillors opposed to increasing Members Allowances. In addition, with most Councillors I strongly objected to proposals being made by Government to remove local control in planning decisions relating to extraction of fossil fuels. In addition, at Full Council I shared concerns raised regarding the IW Council’s administration opposing Southampton City Council’s Clean Air Strategy Scams - The average age of scam victims is 75. Only 5% of these crimes are ever reported. Cowes Town Council has pledged to support IW Trading Standards, IWASP initiative in raising awareness. a million people fall victim every year.
·
Over £5 billion is lost to scammers every year.
Scammers are clever, and all kinds of people from all walks of life get duped. If you let your guard down you too could become a victim. Warning signs: If it sounds too good to be true: Beware of hype and extravagant promises. If it sounds too good to be true, it almost always is. You are contacted out of the blue: You may get a phone call, email or letter from someone you’ve never heard of. You have to make a quick decision: Scammers don’t like to give you time to think. They will try to pressure you into making a decision by saying things like ‘If you don’t act now, you’ll miss out.’ You have to give away bank account details: Trustworthy firms will never contact you to ask for this information. If you see any of the warning signs in a letter, phone call, text message or email, it could well be a scam. What to do: First of all, don’t reply. Then bin it, delete it or hang up. If you believe you, a family member or friend are the victim of a scam then please contact Advice Line on 08454 04 05 06.

Take the First Step... Painful feet can make life a misery, so take the first step towards pain free feet. You may be in good health and have looked after your feet but if for some reason you can no longer do so, or what you’re doing just doesn’t seem to be working then it’s time to see Janice Clark who is The Island Foot Lady and a fully qualified foot health practitioner. As people get older some find they can no longer reach their feet, some develop hard skin, corns, cracked heels; all of which can cause discomfort or pain if not treated as does a verruca or an ingrowing toe nail. Janice offers a friendly, professional island wide service and is willing to spend the time needed to achieve the best outcome for all the people she visits.
