Slimming World With Government figures revealing that obesity rates are rising, more of us are thinking about how we can lose weight. One way is by joining a Slimming World group. Having lost weight with Slimming World herself, Wendy wants to help other people change their lives and achieve their weight loss dreams too. She opened he first group at Gurnard Primary School in December 2015 and now also runs groups at Cowes Primary School and Ventnor Baptist Church. While running her groups Wendy has helped members reach their weight loss targets, come off their diabetes medication, improve their health and look and feel great! Slimming World’s plan doesn’t feel like a diet. The eating plan encourages you to eat lots of tasty, filling foods like pasta, rice, potatoes and lean meat and fish. You are never hungry and no foods are banned so there’s no deprivation. Support is also a key part of any Slimming World group. As someone who has lost weight herself, she knows the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, she will be there to support every one of her members all the way to their chosen target weight. Setting targets, sharing recipes and other ideas and working together as a group to overcome challenges and celebrate success is so important to successful weight loss. Wendy runs Slimming World groups at Gurnard Primary School on Mondays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm and at Cowes Primary School on Thursdays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. For more information or to join either pop along or call Wendy on 07745 451899.

Welcome to the October issue of Island Magazines and you are probably, like me, wondering where the time has gone and how could we be in Autumn already! The weather has changed recently and you can feel the chill in the air especially early morning and in the evening although we have still had some nice sunny days. If you are a dog owner you’ll be pleased to know that from the 1st October our little furry four legged friends can once again play on the beaches that were out of bounds to them during the summer season. I know my own little dog Alfie, will be excited by this news. October is a bit quieter on the events side than previous months but there is still plenty happening across the Island and you can find all the information in our ‘Dates for your Diary’ section on pages 14 and 15. If you have an event happening please feel free to email the details for inclusion in future issues. Once again this issue is packed with news and information and I hope you enjoy reading it. Until next month....

Diary of a Yoga Journey I’ve started on a journey... I’ve been wanting to take this journey for years and I am always mumbling my favourite mantra ‘I really want to learn yoga’. I normally say it most when things in my life aren’t going to plan which in my case is when I am feeling unwell and stressed. I have been suffering from back pain, I’m not alone in this common complaint but something changed this day and I finally pulled my finger out and have done something about it – I did some research, I asked around, and then I made the phone call to a friend of a friend who is a yoga teacher and there ladies and gentleman is how I have taken the first steps on my journey. We have discussed what I want from yoga, how I envisage it fitting in my life, my goals and much more. I have opted for one to one lessons and this is down to my own personal preference as I don’t feel ready to attend a class with others just yet, but never say never!
