I believe that Island people deserve to be listened to and have their issues represented properly to government by putting Island People First and at the centre of democracy. I would vote for the needs of our Island People, be transparent, inclusive and community focused.
I believe that our Health & Wellbeing comes first and that Education can be used to bring change, positivity, employment and reward. We need more NHS and Teaching staff to reduce waiting times and raise education standards. I believe that our island is changing for the better and that we continue to work together within communities to change attitudes, support one another and create our own destinies. Regeneration is not just about building houses it’s about creating better employment opportunities, family choices, mental health and environment matters and it requires improved investment. Early Detection Gives You a Fighting Chance One man dies every 45 minutes (around 11,800 men every year) from prostate cancer and it is now the leading cancer found in men but statistics show that if caught in the early stages, treatment is 80% effective. Mention the words Prostate Cancer and PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Testing and most men will immediately conjure up an invasive and embarrassing testing procedure but in reality it is a simple blood test that is pain free and takes less than 5 minutes This simple BLOOD TEST measures the amount of antigen produced by the prostate entering the blood. It is not a diagnostic/direct test for cancer, but gives an indicator of the health of the prostate. Regular testing showing an increasing reading can indicate a prostate problem, a high reading should trigger further tests to determine if there is a need for any treatment. Unfortunately despite the increasing number of prostate cancer diagnosis and mortality, there is not a regular screening test, and some GP’s are reluctant to offer a PSA test to men over 50 years. Without screening, around 47,000 men are diagnosed General symptoms with prostate cancer each year. of problems with
the prostate are
50% of all men will have a health problem with their frequent need to prostate at some stage of their lives. It could be an urinate especially infection, enlargement or cancer. 15% will develop at night, bursting to prostate cancer and those with family history of the urinate, slow flow, disease or of African-Caribbean origin are 3 times difficult or painful (45%) more at risk but the main thing to think about flow, stop/start is that early detection gives you an above average fighting chance!!! dribbling, or blood in the urine The Charity Isle of Wight Prostate Cancer Support Group in partnership with Ryde Lions are offering FREE PSA blood testing for men aged 45 to 85 years on 19th October at Ryde Academy, Pell Lane, Ryde, PO33 3LN The testing will be conducted by trained phlebotomists taking blood from a vein in the arm, this will be analysed at a hospital laboratory and after a report has been produced by a Urological Consultant, the result will be sent to the person being tested within 7 – 10 working days. Every 45 minutes another man dies 8

News Report from Cllr Paul Fuller - 45 Oxford Street, Northwood, PO31 8PT. Telephone: 01983 289595 - Email: paulfulleriw@gmail.com Cowes Traffic Order - This has been modified, approved and processed by the IW Council, with the new order being put in place in the coming weeks. This will be monitored and further action may be considered, should parking issues not be resolved. Road Resurfacing Update - Contrary to letters sent out in advance, Island Roads have advised me they will not resurface Crossfield Avenue, Park Road and Worsley Road this year. These roads were removed due to the structural integrity being higher than many other roads across the Island. However, Tilbury Road has been resurfaced, whilst (as many residents know) and a hazardous section of Newport Road was been patched. St Mary’s Roundabout - Work to reconfigure St Mary’s Roundabout is due to commence on 30th September. Following calls I received regarding the Newport Road resurfacing and the initial delays when work started, I suggest motorists consider alternative routes into Newport particularly at peak times to avoid delays. A webpage has been created to give updates and real-time information. This is available at: http://www.islandroads. com/182-newport-st-marys-strategicjunction-improvements-.html Updates will also be relayed via on-site information boards and Twitter. 10
Pavement Parking - I continue to receive complaints from residents with push chairs and wheelchairs regarding pavement parking. If there is no off-road provision, please ensure there is space for all pedestrians to pass safely. Garden Waste Bins - I’ve received a complaint that Amey are removing Garden Waste bins in cases where renewals have not been taken up. If this applies to you and you still have not renewed your subscription please call 823777. Brexit Preparations - It is very clear from the Prime Minister that the UK will be leaving the European Union on 31st October. In recent weeks government has issued advice to Businesses, EU Nationals and residents on options. This can be found here: https://www.gov. uk/prepare-eu-exit In the meantime, I’ve contacted the IW Council for advice for those with long term medical conditions and the availability of medication, should there be any uncertainties. Once received this information will feature on my website! Consultation on Concessionary Travel Scheme Changes - Following feedback I’ve responded to this consultation on the withdrawal by the IW Council of travel concessions for disabled residents travelling before 9:30am. In my response, I raised concerns over how this concession allows working age continued over the page
News report from Cllr Paul Fuller continued residents with disabilities to access work and feel included. This is not only positive for residents with physical disabilities but also those susceptible to mental health needs.
Cowes 2020: 200 Update - Many thanks to the feedback received so far on identifying 200 extra parking spaces in Cowes for residents and visitors to the town.
I note working aged residents with disabilities, are twice as likely to be living in poverty, and are more likely to suffer from social isolation, anxiety and depression. In my view, withdrawal of this concession may increase the long term costs to the IW Council and healthcare providers.
My intention is to create these spaces by:
Planning Updates. • Bucklers View- I am awaiting an update regarding concerns raised over increasing the scale and mass of this extension. • Church Road- Dialogue has taken place between myself, the applicant and planners. I’m hopeful a compromise can be found by the case officer. • Westview Road. Planners initially indicated they share mine, residents and Gurnard Parish Councils concern over any residential use west of existing properties. • Woodvale Road. Following resident’s concerns, this application was withdrawn. • The Range. I continue to lobby for the pedestrian refuge for Place Road. This is being chased! • Planning Enforcement: This continues for applications adjacent to Egypt Hill and Westview Road.
1. Removing residents parking ‘bays’. Each box measures 4.8 metres, when in reality the space needed is less. I estimate for every 11-12 bays removed 1 extra space could be created. 2. Can unused off-road driveways and garages be made available that can offer residents a small nominal income from commuters thus freeing up space elsewhere? 3. Can existing public and private car parks be better utilised, by reconfiguration. Is long /short stay car parking fit for purpose? Are there parts of the town that needs better disabled parking provision? 4. Are there areas where historic double yellow lines exist, that are no longer needed? Do you know of disabled bays no longer used? In the discussions that I have had with the many residents that have contacted me, I am confident that we can find 200 spaces before the end of next year. If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions please let me know.

Getting Yourself Back on Your Feet Have you ever thought about how hard your feet work for you? Yet many of us neglect them and underestimate how important they are... in many cases they go the extra mile but along the way certain issues can crop up such as ingrowing toenails, corns, hard skin, verrucas and fungal infections, to name a few. It may be that through medical issues such as diabetes and the fact that none of us are getting any younger, even simple tasks such as nail trimming and cracked heels can become difficult to take care of and that is why you should always seek the help of a professional, and Steven Long not only ticks this box but he also offers a mobile service so all treatments can be carried out in the comfort of your own home, whilst relaxing in your own armchair. Steven is always happy to discuss your requirements and welcomes you to call him on 721987 or 07799 334900 to discuss how he can help you and make your life that little bit easier.
