His customers are always happy with the work he does and below are just a couple of recent reviews he has received. Bought 2 flats: one in need of complete rewiring with new fuse box and down lights, the other (my home) a blank canvas, top to bottom job, 2 floors with loft conversion...down lights, all new sockets, redesigning , new boiler, new alarms, tv/satellite etc... Rich Electrics has done both and a top job too! Very helpful and friendly... Highly recommended! Thank you M.A. Had three jobs to do, one of them was extremely time sensitive. Rich came in and completed them all quickly but also to a high standard. Would highly recommend him! Cheers Rich!! G.B. Town Mayor Report for East Cowes From Margaret Webster

(Tel No: 01983 299082 and leave a message for the Mayor) I really cannot believe how quickly the weeks are going by, already the first month of 2017 has gone by. We have been quite lucky in comparison to other parts of the Country at the moment as far as the weather has been concerned. It has been kind, although cold and wet we have been able to handle it. Please may I ask that you keep an eye on any neighbours that may need a little help in these months left of winter. Age Concern are always willing to assist if they know someone is in need of help, if you contact them, they will do small repairs, shopping etc. and are always willing to visit to bring a little cheer to someone. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the kind residents who worked so hard, giving their free time to help produce such a fantastic pantomime 2016. I know you are probably wondering why I am mentioning this in February magazine but in fact it hadn’t taken place when I wrote the January report due to Christmas print deadlines. It was a magnificent weekend, everyone worked so hard, I do appreciate you all giving your time and taking part to bring pleasure to so many children (of all ages, young and old) in our town, it is wonderful to watch how all the varying age groups get on amongst themselves and looked after each other. Many friendships were made I am sure. The Clerk on behalf of the Town Council has been asked to write to Southern Vectis and request that they consider reviewing their timetable for East Cowes buses per hour by perhaps on one of their journeys they divert a bus to go down Saunders Way at the roundabout and return perhaps through

Beatrice Avenue to allow all those people living in the new estate to be able to visit East Cowes and certainly access the doctors and shops comfortably. There are many elderly and disabled needing this service. I understand that in the paperwork given to residents in this area they have been told there is to be a bus route. We will await their reply and trust that a consideration will be given to this matter. The Floating Bridge area is now in the process of having the work carried out to improve the area to accommodate the new floating bridge when it comes in April. The foot passengers are at the moment travelling across on the Jenny boats from their mooring near red Funnel. I can confirm that passengers do have to pay to travel as they have for the last months on the floating bridge trip, I have been asked by many residents if in fact whether the trip across was free, sadly ‘No’. It has been brought to the Town Councils attention that there is further slippage along East Cowes Esplanade, we ask you to take care whilst walking your dogs or just strolling yourselves, it is dangerous, this is the reason we are told why the County Council blocked this area off. The Town Council are not responsible for this area. May I also take this opportunity to ask dog owners to take home their little ‘doggie parcels’ or place in the nearest bin whether on the seafront or on the pavements, there has been a sudden increase in being left to rot, which is not acceptable or hygienic and indeed cause health problems to other residents. Thank you.

Town Mayor Report for East Cowes This year will be an interesting year, County and local elections, as well as many planning applications pending which will all have an impact on our Town and lives, we need to remain observant and responsive. I close this report by saying, ‘please keep warm and well’. INFORMATION. Please Note: East Cowes Town Council Meetings will now be starting at 6.30pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The next Town Council meeting will be on the Thursday 16th February 2017 at the Town Hall at 6.30pm.

Och Aye The Moo I hope you like this month’s front cover photo of the Highland cows which was taken by David Trevan. Highland cattle with their long horns and their flowing coats, which gives them protection during cold winters, were originally from the Highlands and West Isles of Scotland and are now a welcome sight across the Island. David Trevan is a very keen amateur photographer who lives on the Undercliff and comes across these beautiful animals on his regular walks around St Lawrence. David has a passion for natural history and particularly wild flowers and before he retired he was a lecturer in Horticulture and Countryside Management at the IOW College and trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew with Alan Titchmarsh. He is a keen member of the IOW Natural History and Archaeological Society and puts many of his wildlife pictures online, in particular iSpot, an Open University website and iRecord, a website that enables people to record their natural history finds.

East Cowes Business Association New Year is often the time to want to make a change, whether this is to lose some weight, take up a new hobby or even move house. Having worked in a sports centre for a number of years, January would be manic as people would rush to get fit. However, having completely changed professions (I am now a town planner) I didn’t expect January to remain so hectic. Rather than people wanting to streamline their bodies, it seems that people want to streamline their homes and that is where ECBA members can help.

the only estate agency in town who understands the local issues, Wrights Estate Agency and look at what’s available and what is coming to market (www.wright-iw.co.uk or 281010).

ECBA is delighted to be bringing the Pancake Races back to Kings Square on Shrove Tuesday (28th February) and are expecting to start the racing at 2pm. The event is sponsored this year by Turner-Brooks Recruitment, and is once again supported by both Holy Cross and Queensgate Schools. We are hoping to have a couple of If you’re looking to extend your home, give adult races at the end so do come along and Elmstone Design a call (www.elmstonedesign. join in or simply cheer the runners on. Give Dan Honey of DMH Decorators a call (07415769663) The weather can still turn very cold, and if you haven’t had your boiler serviced yet, or if you are in need of a plumber who will give you honest advice, try Leon Chessell of Gastek (07778026887 / 284245). If you find yourself in the dark, and no amount of light-bulb changing will shed any light, give Iggy of Iggy Electrical a call (07976311445) for no nonsense advice, and a lightning quick service. Neil Groundsell is on hand to help with any carpentry and property maintenance jobs that need doing so if you find yourself scratching your head, surrounded by timber, saws and screws, reach for the phone (293725) Or, if you need different space altogether, visit

we invite all business people (members and non-members) to join us. At the time of writing this, the venue isn’t finalised, but from recent reviews, it will be worth coming along to just for the delicious food! There is no commitment from you required and no pressure to join the committee. We have made good progress with getting activities planned for the St George’s Celebration (held a day early on 22nd April in Kings Square). If you have any ideas, please let us know as there is still time to get a few bits budgeted for and booked. We want this event to bring people into the town, to take a pride in the great community spirit that our town has and importantly, have some fun. Do Something Amazing... Become A Blood Donor There is one session available during February on the Island.

is why there’s always a need for people to give blood.

On Monday 13th February at Cowes Yacht Haven, Vectis Yard, High Street, Cowes, PO31 7BD between 1.15pm and 5.15pm

Each year we need approximately 200,000 new donors, as some donors can no longer give blood.

If you’ve never given blood before you’ll probably wonder what the Blood Donation Sessions are and what happens there. They can take place at regular intervals at your local community centre, church, or sports club.

Most people between the ages of 17-65 are able to give blood. Around half our current donors are over 45. That’s why we need more young people (over the age of 17) to start giving blood, so we can make sure we have enough blood in the future.

Giving blood saves lives. The blood you give is a lifeline in an emergency and for people who need long-term treatments. You can book an appointment to attend or Many people would not be alive today if donors register to be a donor online at www.blood. had not generously given their blood. co.uk or by calling their Helpline on 0300 123 23 23. We need over 6,000 blood donations every day to treat patients in need across England. Which

Town Cllr Karl Love - East Cowes - North Ward. Email lovehilluk@gmail.com Facebook:- Cllr Karl Love Time passes so very quickly and talking of time, I’ve been working away in the background investigating the Royal potential for the East Cowes 2019 Anniversary Events. We already have the support of the Heritage Centre who have offered to hold, as part of the 2019 Events a Grand Victorian Exhibition. A Victorian week would also compliment this perfectly and it’s so simple to arrange. I will keep you informed of progress along with details of when the next meeting will take place. In other news- the old floating bridge has gone and we await the arrival of the new one. I would hope we can mark the occasion in some way to help lift towns people’s spirits during the winter months.

I’ve been in contact with Island Roads about concealing the Sand Bags at Well Rd roundabout. They are receptive to the suggestion so let’s hope for some progress soon.
