Welcome and thank you for picking up the latest issue of Island Magazines. We have had some glorious sunshine and quite a heatwave so far this summer but at the time of writing this it’s raining... and although I’m not keen on rain it was very much needed, but let’s hope the sun will be back shortly.
text or call Island Magazines on 07880 587 931 islandmagazines@gmail.com www.islandmagazines.co.uk
The summer holidays seem to have flown by and the Island has been packed with visitors enjoying all the wonderful delights our rock has to offer. It never ceases to amaze me when I come across visitors who seem in awe of the fact that we live here and have everything the Island has to offer right under our noses. It’s comments like this that make me glad to call this home. As usual this issue is packed with local news, features, advertisers and much more and you can find details of events happening throughout September by going to the ‘Dates for your Diary’ section on pages 8 and 9. I hope you all enjoy this issue and always feel free to get in touch and share your thoughts. Until next month...

I wish to thank Care in the Garden for the wonderful flower displays, which make the town look so good. John and his crew I can only imagine with such glorious sunshine, have had their work cut out in watering. Well John and Crew thank you so much, it is much appreciated, a fantastic job. Each year your displays seem even better than the year before. Maintaining our facilities I wish to thank those working for the East Cowes Town Council with their dedication and service. The majority of you probably have never met any of these people in person as they are working behind the scenes, so to speak. The ECTC are lucky to have such a good team. Thank you, unsung heroes. May I ask you please to be diligent regarding vandalism? The summer holidays has seen various acts of vandalism, most of it mindless. It costs you the resident every time an item/s has to be replaced or repaired. It is all of our responsibility to keep our children and others safe. Please phone the ECTC office 01983 299082 and leave a message should you have anything to report. I thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and care. Any issues you wish to share with me, even good things that are happening where you live, please feel free to email me janeranntowncouncillor@gmail.com. Thank you to those who have already contacted me, good to hear from you. 4

7 Reasons to use Local Solicitors when buying or selling a property: •

Local solicitors know the area, they know the estate agents, independent surveyors and tradespeople. An internet conveyancer can never provide this specialised local knowledge. If unforeseen difficulties arise you, as a buyer or seller, need to be kept informed and advised. Local solicitors will be able to explain situations plainly and face-to-face. Local solicitors will keep their promises, regularly keep in touch, return phone calls and provide a good and efficient service. They’ll go that extra mile to ensure your complete satisfaction, as their client testimonials prove. Local solicitors will quote you a price which will take into account the costs of all searches, Land Registry fees and other disbursements. Many online firms will quote a very competitive price, but add in extras which may make them more expensive! Most local solicitors will complete the Stamp Duty Land Transaction Return Form free of charge. Some online firms will charge extra and extra again for acting for your Mortgage Company and extra again if you need to complete within 10 days of exchanging contracts. The price quoted by a local solicitor may not be the cheapest but you are buying a service and what they give you is value for your money. Using Local solicitors will establish a relationship that can last a lifetime.

News Report from Town & County Cllr Karl Love - East Cowes. Email: karl.love@iow.gov.uk Facebook: Cllr Karl Love It’s been a really busy month again for our town with business and regeneration decisions occurring. A lot is happening with significant issues occurring in the background. Firstly, we had some wonderful world coverage of our new Romanov monuments situated in Jubilee recreation ground as pictures and film where shown in the Baltic States and on Russian TV. The orthodox church has indicated that it would like to create an annual pilgrimage to our town. A new town friendship has been born which we hope to foster for the future prosperity of everyone. The umbrella tree remains at the centre of my concern. I’ve tried everything that I can think of to provide alternative solutions to the proposed cutting down of the tree. The decision lies in the hands of Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads. I was able to present my report about the tree at the last council meeting but I was not able, for legal reasons to participate in the debate at the Town Hall. This is because it is a conflict of interest for me as a representative as a county and town council. We now await the outcome of the scouts town councils tree report . As I write this report the failures of the floating bridge, during Cowes week, unfold for the world to see. I’m dismayed that as the Towns Ward County Councillor I was not informed by officers of the council about the unfolding events and that I was not able to be part of the solution and keep people informed. There is still no news about the proposed development of Victoria Quay and Norris
castle. I’m sure you will have observed the fencing and bollards being erected on the Esplanade green. This is to protect the safety of residents using the green and prevent parking. The tennis court is also being refurbished as part of a 106 funding scheme. This finance is provided from contractual agreements from developers building in and around our town. The Red Funnel car park is now in use and the seating are for riverside views open. It will receive further enhancements in the coming months. I’m informed that the White Heart Inn will close its doors for the last time in September. It’s provided a great community resource for many residents in our town over the years and many will be sad to see it close. Finally I wanted to encourage as many candidates as possible to participate and stand in the forthcoming by-election for Whippingham Ward, which was left vacant after counsellor Julie Baker-Smith resigned from the town council. This is an opportunity for somebody to help refresh and help carry forward our town into the future. I encourage people to stand, particularly those who want to make a real difference and will contribute to doing the work. I will post more information on my Facebook page as it becomes available. My next town surgery will take place at Seabreeze cafe in East Cowes on the first Thursday of September from 10.30 to 12.30 Take care and I hope you enjoy the Esplanade and all the fun of East Cowes over the remainder of the summer.

News Report for East Cowes from Mayor Peter Lloyd (Tel No: 01983 299082 and leave a message for the Mayor) I hope that you all had a good and enjoyable Cowes week and summer holiday.
