Salon Style All The Way Local hairdresser, Sandy thoroughly enjoys hairdressing and making her clients happy, especially when they then go on to become friends. Customer satisfaction is the most important factor and Sandy knows she is doing it right after receiving these testimonials from her Wash, Cut, Blowdry, Colour, Set, client:-
Local Hairdresser Sandy
“Sandy has been my hairdresser for many years and each time I have been delighted. People are always commenting on how lovely my hair looks. Prices are within my budget and Sandy really does go above and beyond to get the correct cut and colour to suit. An honest, reliable and suitably priced hairdresser that I would highly recommend”. Andrea - Freshwater “I’ve been a client of Sandy’s for over 2 years and have found her friendly and professional. I used Sandy as I needed someone who could use L’Oreal colours even though she uses Wella and she is very good. I would recommend Sandy to anyone who needs their hair coloured”. Melissa - Freshwater “Sandy has been cutting my Aunts hair for 4 years. My Aunt is very fragile but looks forward to Sandy visiting to cut her hair as well as having a good chat. I really appreciate having someone I can trust as I don’t live on the island myself”. Louise - London “I am very satisfied with my hair as I always get compliments from people when it’s been done.. I’ve never had anything to complain about”. Leland – Totland If you would like to join these satisfied clients then give Sandy a call on 07590 659 022 4

Monthly News Report by John Medland IW Councillor for Freshwater South. Tel: 07543 309 219 or email jcmedland@outlook.com Freshwater Parish Councillors have been angered by the recent news that £880,000 has been invested in the Medina Sports Centre while the independent West Wight Sports Centre has been cut off for two years from any IW Council grant. “What outreach work is Medina Leisure Centre doing to ensure it has the remit of the council’s only sports and leisure centre for the people of the West Wight?” asked Parish Councillor Vix Lowthion, “As I see it, nothing.” According to the IWC Chief Executive John Metcalfe, the investment in Medina “was approved as an ‘invest to save bid’ by the Full Council as part of its medium term financial strategy in February 2015. The capital spend is intended to generate £85k per annum as a contribution to helping the council meet its financial challenges.”
borough councils with local taxes and then became part of the IW Council. Therein lies the difference in the way they are treated. Major Road Works Ahead - Island Roads will commence the long overdue works to Princes Road at the end of October. These works will be extensive and will require a road closure. This will mean that significant temporary road diversions are to be put in place. For example parking will not be permitted in the High Street. For more details please contact Island Roads on www.islandroads.com/ or 822440.
Island Roads have now programmed works to Avenue Road to commence from 23 January with carriageway surfacing to take place in early March. There will be some disruption as resurfacing re-kerbing and footway surfacing takes place. This will also include footway widening and crossing points and the provision of an extra 50m of free on-street parking. Personally I believe the two remaining IWC Freshwater Parish Council and IW Council are Sports Centres at Medina and the Heights should be turned into independent “Community contributing around £30,000 to make these Interest Companies”. In this way all sports and improvements. Totland Parish Council News Remembrance Sunday: This year the Royal British Legion West Wight Branch Annual Service of Remembrance will be held at the Freshwater War Memorial on Sunday 13th November. The parade will muster outside the Red Lion, Church Place, in the road outside All Saints Churchyard at 10.45am. The Last Post will be sounded at 11.00am followed by a two minutes silence and Reveille. The wreath laying ceremony will then take place and on completion, there will be a Remembrance Sunday service at All Saints Church, Freshwater. Councillors of Totland will also lay a wreath at the Totland War Memorial at the same time and all are welcome at either service. Best Kept Village Award: The Parish Council are excited to have won the Audrey Finlay Memorial Salver for the Best Kept War Memorial. Thank you to all who keep this area looking good. Congratulations to Mr J Cave of Totland, who was awarded the Age Friendly Arm in Arm – supported by Sainsbury’s award in October. The nominations were for an older adult or group of people, young and old, who work together across generations and who contributes towards bridging the gap between young and older people. Skate Park: The Skate Park at Moa Place, which is looked after by Totland and Freshwater Parish Councils, had its annual competition at the end of August and was once again well supported. Extensive maintenance works had been carried out prior to this event taking place, with a thank you to John Cattle for helping to source the materials. With the support of both Parish Councils, Hybrid Action Sports and John Cattle of Wight Trash this event was enjoyed by all. Open Spaces: We have been granted a licence from Natural England to carry out works on Turf Walk under section 10(2)(b) preventing
serious damage to land, crops, poultry or any other form of property. Works will be started as soon as possible and are likely to take 2 to 3 days. Weston School: After several months the Isle of Wight Council have agreed to split this site and the Parish Council has managed to secure the Car Park and Field for 3 years with a licence from the Isle of Wight Council. The school building remains with Property Services at this time. Dogs on Leads; please keep your dogs on leads where required to do so. Unfortunately there has been a lot more excrement left on the footpaths. Spot checks are being held and we urge you to report any witnessed dog fouling in our area by contacting 01983 821000. Police Beat Surgeries; Beat Surgeries will be continuing for now and you are urged to drop in and speak to your local Neighbourhood Policing Team if you have any concerns between 11.00am and midday on Tuesday 1st November. CONTACT DETAILS: Parish Clerk – Mrs Helen Gibbs - Telephone 756028 Email: totlandparishco@googlemail.com The parish office is open Monday - Thursday 9am–12 noon.

Are YOU a Survivor of Domestic Abuse? In today’s society it is an unfortunate fact that many people are in abusive relationships. When this eventually comes to a head often the abused goes to a refuge or similar safe place. During the time spent at this safe place they receive excellent training to help them deal with their situation and help them move on to an extent. However, the nature of some abusive relationships is such that many abused people have not been allowed to develop even the most fundamental skills even as an adult. Whilst the training received from the refuge or similar is very good and is a fantastic foundation for moving on, once that support ceases, as it has to, the person may be left in a vulnerable state and risks making the same life style choices in terms of partners as they did before. Unfortunately this means that the same cycle of behaviour repeats and the abused person can end up in a similarly bad relationship and the whole cycle starts again. The Break the Cycle ‘Mind the Gap’ course aims to build on the foundation gained during the period spent in the refuge and equip the abused person emotionally and practically to move forward in a positive way and literally break that cycle. Realistically not everybody is either fortunate enough to go through a refuge or feels that they need to as they may have made their own arrangements. The ‘Mind the Gap’ course is flexible enough to incorporate people coming from diverse situations which may or may not include formal help from refuges or the like. Break the Cycle Community Interest Company has been lucky enough to receive Lottery funding to run courses to help people who have escaped domestic abuse. Whether you have recently moved away from an abusive relationship or are managing to survive after some time, their course, made up of six modules, will help you to live a more fulfilled life, build your confidence and help you move forward. Break the Cycle’s ‘Mind the Gap’ course uses a range of training material that complements each participants learning style. The modules, each of 2 hours duration, are interactive and engaging allowing the participants to learn through practice and experience rather than just theory. Each participant will be given their own journal to track their progress. We are looking for volunteers to commit to taking the whole course, at no cost, with the proviso that they feed back to the company their opinions on the content, the experience and any other findings.
Are you a sur vivor of domestic abuse?
Would you like to participate in an innovative new course designed to move you forward in a positive way & literally break that cycle? This course is FREE OF CHARGE but you must commit to undertaking all six modules & feed back to the company your opinions on the To apply to join this course, to be run in January 2017, please contact Maggie Currie on content. We are currently looking for 12 people so if interested, get in touch soon. her email address: For more information & to apply hello@breakthecycle.org.uk.
