Welcome to the November issue of your local community magazine which is bursting at the seams with news, information, event details, advertisers and so much more. November 5th is Guy Fawkes and although watching the fireworks is great fun please remember that animals aren’t keen on them. If you are holding your own event please let your neighbours know in advance so they can take the appropriate action of keeping any family pets indoors. For an amazing time without the hassle have fun at one of the many organised events happening across the island. You will find all the information on our ‘dates for your diary’ section on pages 16 and 17 which is filled with an assortment of events including Christmas fayres and winter carnivals. If you are holding a community event in December please email us the information and we will include it in next months diary section. I hope you all enjoy this months issue and I look forward to catching up with you next month with the Christmas edition. Have a great November...

This is a big problem across the Island and indeed across the country so we all need to keep on nagging when ever a leak is found until it is repaired. Yafford Pond flooding - In discussions and site visits with Island Roads engineers, I now have the drawings of a solution to this annual flooding problem, which of course comes at a cost of which Island Roads are prepared to pay a third. It is not clear where the remaining two thirds of the cost will come from. I will be talking with the property owners to get their feedback soon. Then the design will be shown to Shorwell Parish Council to get their thoughts and of course it will be going before Brighstone Parish Council also. We are now entering Budget discussions within the Isle of Wight Council and once again we are under pressure to find savings so I don’t think there is any chance of assistance from them at present.

Grahame wants to let local islanders know that Deacons Nursery, located in Moor View in Godshill is fully open for business and he can personally assist everyone with what they require. They have hundreds of varieties of trees on offer, apples, pears, peach, nectarine, apricot, cherry to name just a few. Whether you want just the odd one or two trees or you want to pack your garden plot full of these mouth watering soft fruit trees including some more unusual species such as goji berries, cranberries or hybrid berries then Deacons Nursery is your one stop shop. News Report from Councillor George Cameron Email:- george.cameron@iow.gov.uk | Mobile 07701011481 I would like to congratulate the group called W.Y.S.P. (Western Yar Seating Project) who up to now have spent many hours putting a case together for additional seating on the path between Freshwater and Yarmouth. I fully support them as walking is recognised as being the most valuable form of exercise and the provision of additional seating on this old railway track will enable people that have a disability, illness or any weakness of any kind to have resting points along the walk. It will also provide seats in the shade which is not available at present and what could be better than a relaxing walk along the banks of the river Yar. At this time of year the weather is unpredictable and I would like to ask residents to be careful when lighting fires, please check and inspect your chimneys and fireplaces and maintain them in preparation for the winter. I would also ask those residents who burn garden waste in their gardens to be considerate and keep the smoke caused by the fires to a minimum so it does not affect your neighbours so please keep to the rules. I am pleased to see that our local FYT Bus group, run completely by volunteers is in the process of purchasing a new bus to replace the older vehicle and reducing the fleet to four units rather than the existing five units. This will put them in a good position with up to date buses so that they can continue to provide the excellent service that we have enjoyed up to now. Please support the FYT Bus as much as you can, we are very lucky to have this award winning service in the West Wight and I thank all the volunteers who make this possible.
The next round of Freshwater Soup is on Tuesday 4th November. Yes, you did read this right and you do get a bowl of soup at the price of ÂŁ3.00. But, this idea which originate from Canada is very popular and the concept is very community minded which brings much needed funding to local projects in a fun way. The next round will be the third and will be held at Freshwater Conservative Club, Queens Road Freshwater and start at 7pm. Up to four people make a pitch or presentation for their idea and all the people who attended and bought soup then vote on the best presentation, the winner then take all the money to kick start their project. The unlucky presenters may return and try their luck at the next round. It is a fantastic idea and anyone can bring their idea and make a presentation, it is done in a fun way and brings the community together with a purpose. Look out for the posters around Freshwater for more details. Any issues you wish to raise or if you have a problem that I can assist you with, please contact me on 07701011481 or email me george.cameron@iow.gov.uk

My teacher, Nickie Short is amazing at what she does and she listens to me about problem areas in my life and can see the changes I need to make to move forward so I can be in a better position physically and mentally. I have spoken to her about my asthma which at this time of year is not being as controlled as much as I would like, so she incorporated movements to improve lung capacity and to help me synchronise movement with breath.
