Do you want clarity about your current situation, about what really matters in life, the choices you want to make and who you really are? Begin building new foundations for your more relaxed future and learn more deeply and become more grounded in the single paradigm (mind, consciousness, thought).
The summer holidays are very nearly over and the children will be back to school very shortly. The holidays makers will soon be returning home and lets hope the roads won’t be quite as Residential Carehome congested once they have gone.

Sandown Report from Heather Humby - Telephone 01983 402024 E.mail heather.humby@sky.com 7, Pier Street, Sandown, PO36 8JR DEATH OF FORMER SANDOWN COUNCILLOR, PEGGY JARMAN. - The death of former Sandown Councillor, Peggy Jarman is a sad loss to the community, which she served, both as a Town, South Wight, and County Councillor. Peggy was Town Mayor, and was also Chairman of Isle of Wight Council in 2004. I was privileged to serve with Peggy, as a Councillor, and always found her to be dedicated to serving the interests of Sandown and the Island during her years a Councillor. BRADING STATION VISITOR CENTRE - In August, I attended Brading Station Visitor Centre, and can recommend that it is well worth making a visit, on their next special open days, 7th September and 5th October. Attractions at the station, include a visit to the signal box, where you can ‘have a go’ at pulling the levers and ringing bells, ( it seems that this is very popular with younger visitors!), and entry to the Station Master’s office, viewing the many artefacts collected over the years. The Visitor Centre is run by Brading Community Volunteers, and is the first stage of the Brading Heritage Trail. SANDOWN TOWN COUNCIL - The following were among items raised at the July meeting of the Council. Police Report - The meeting was attended by Acting Sergeant Lucy Critchlow, and PCSO Kevin Cooke, who reported there had been complaints regarding young people racing around in cars, in Yaverland Car Park. Although spoken to by the police, they had been unable to witness an offence. Consideration would be given to closing the gates of the car park at an earlier time. It was requested that the Sandown Police Liason Group be re-established, with regular meetings between the police and council, 4
when any local problems could be discussed. Sgt. Critchlow agreed to the request, and meetings would be arranged. Youth Service Provision. - Cllr. Blezzard expressed concern that the funding made available by IWC for Youth Services, delivered in Sandown by CEYP, at Sandown Town Hall, is scheduled to end in 2017. It was resolved that the council contact IWC impressing upon them the importance of Youth Service provision, and requesting them to extend Youth Offer funding beyond 2017. Old Post Office Repairs. - It was agreed that Royal Mail be requested to carry out repairs to the steps and side wall of the former Post Office. The site had been fenced off for over a year, and had become an eyesore. Pungent Smell in Sandown Bay - Following complaints regarding pungent smells, which seemed to arise from the sea, the clerk was requested to contact the Maritime Agency, following suggestions that it could arise from ship’s discharging their bilges within Sandown Bay. ODDS AND ENDS. Congratulations to: Sandown Carnival Committee, who once again provided a week of activities for both residents and visitors. The parade was most successful, and resulted in a record collection from the many on-lookers East Wight Beaver’s, who gave up an afternoon to clean up Yaverland Beach, in support of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England. LIBRARY SURGERY. Please note that I will be available most Saturday’s at Sandown Library, from 11am until noon, to endeavour to deal with any council related problems.

Monthly News Report for Shanklin. Richard 07854 083229 Jon 07964 869338 Email. priest.gilbey@live.co.uk Dear Residents With the Summer season nearly over, we’d like to thank all involved in organising the Regatta, Carnivals, Rylstone Band Concert Programme, Dash and Splash, Here to Here Swim, Countless Fetes and Fayres, Sports Events (6 A-side football tournament, Bowls Club, Cricket, Rowing and Sailing, Cricket, Pistol Club, etc), Shanklin in Bloom, and a whole host of activities that make Shanklin the special place that it is. The re-opening of the Lift, by Olympic Gold Medallist Louis Attrill MBE, presentation of Green Flag and Seaside Award, also highlighted how important the Beach and the Bay is to Shanklin and South East Wight – we will be continuing to update residents on the progress of the New Lift Bridge, Second Lift Shaft, and how we can use this £800,000 investment to promote Shanklin further. Shanklin Town Council, in addition to supporting a programme of Summer Activities, have also supported the longshoremen to provide beach improvements, alongside the funding of beach cleaning, opening of Public Toilets and other initiatives. NB We have been working with Public Toilet Specialists to take forward new designs for Tower Cottage and Falcon Cross Toilets, and hope to be able to present proposals at the Autumn Public Meeting. TOWN INITIATIVES The Town Council has been very actively working with Parents from St Blasius Primary School to ensure the Road Crossing Patrol is maintained, and that the safety of students is recognised – we have asked for assurances, from IW Council, that Shanklin is not treated differently from other Towns and Villages on the Island. 12
We have also submitted a full response to the consultation on Parking, and have re-committed ourselves to fighting a repeat of the proposals to introduce parking meters into Regent Street, as well as highlight the need to improve the value for money provided by the charging system, and ensure the Tourist Schemes (introduced by Cllr Gilbey) are maintained. We have also made our position, in respect of the Devolution Proposals for Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, very clear and that we do not believe that funding a further level of bureaucracy is acceptable (and alternative models should be considered), and that whilst the gains for mainland authorities are clear, the benefits for the Island need to be fully articulated – Devolution will bring responsibilities and costs, and these need spelling out. In addition, with Ray Bloomfield and colleagues, we have continued to support the need to clarify the longer term future of Island Line, ensure investment is committed to develop services and provide certainty for all stakeholders – usage this Summer again highlights the importance of the Service to Tourists and residents alike. We are also contributing to discussions on re-organising Health Care services on the Island (for example proposals for the Beacon Facility at St Mary’s) and have highlighted the need for these services and the need to communicate any developments with the Community. TOWN SUCCESSES We’d like to add our congratulations to Amanda Henley, from St Blasius CE Primary Academy, on her success in receiving the Laura Groves Awards for Community and Family Involvement; Dr Giles and the Team at
News Report for Shanklin continued... Shanklin Medical Centre for being awarded the General Practice of the Year; to Shanklin Theatre for their Trip Advisor Success; and the team at Day Lewis Pharmacy of their success. Shanklin has also been shortlisted for South East England in Bloom, and a number of initiatives are also being assessed and will be reported on in future Reports. We’d also like to highlight the re-opening of Shanklin Voluntary Youth and Community Centre, on Fridays for younger residents, and on Thursdays for Older Residents – their other weekday activities continue and can be viewed on their website. And finally, we’d like to thank all those residents that have contacted us about issues of concern, and for their help addressing problems when possible (and we know that not every issue can be resolved) – and we hope the Autumn Public Meeting will provide a further opportunity for residents to help shape the future of Shanklin. Regards Jon Gilbey and Richard Priest Shanklin Town and IW Councillors
