She is delighted to be living in an environment that nurtures her creative spirit. “It is my hope that my images will inspire viewers towards a greater appreciation of the sacredness and wonder of even the smallest moments in life”. elehna@saltsring.com

TAMAR GRIGGS Tamar is a passionate wildlife photographer who enjoys staying home on Salt Spring Island to capture the magic of moments seen in Nature. For twenty years she lived on an isolated spot in Sansum Narrows without a road, where she traveled by boat and was surrounded by Nature in the Salish Sea. tamargriggs.com

JUDY H. MCPHEE Judy was born in Edmonton, Alberta and grew up on the West Coast of British Columbia. JANA ZACHARIOU Jana is a Czech born photographer living on Salt Spring Island. Her ability to capture inspiring imagery came about, in part, because of the abundance of natural scenery that surrounds her on the West Coast. Gardening on the Islands seems primarily the work of supplanting the rain forest. Growth is inevitable and luxuriant as the mild climate encourages a wide variety of vegetation and year round harvests.

© Harold Bailey

A foodies’ paradise, the islands offer everything from basic grocery items to specialty bakeries, cheese makers and coffee shops throughout the village and hidden in the woods. A craft brewery, a cider mill, and several wineries serve up award winning libations. Around every corner you are likely to find a farm stand with fresh eggs, fresh vegetables and flowers, baked goods, or specialty jams and jellies. Most of these delights are available at the Saturday market in downtown Ganges, a world-class exposition of goods created on Salt Spring Island. From pristine landscapes, world-class arts, excellent hiking and water sports opportunities, local shopping, fine education options, a small local hospital, business services and friendly neighbours... you’ll find room to expand your wings and fly with your dreams on the Southern Gulf Islands.

Summer has arrived on the islands!

a delicate nature

The Islands are dotted with trails that invite hikers to climb mountains, walk shorelines, or stroll through the woods. Fabulous viewpoints, deer, eagles, shorebirds, quiet immersion in nature, tranquil resting places and healthy exercise all can be found here. Whether hiking

alone or with a group the benefits can be discovered in dozens of trails. From easy to challenging these hikes offer something for everyone. An encounter with wildlife on an island hike (deer, rabbits, birds, raccoons, amphibians, and beavers) is a charming experience. Although more likely one will just see the evidence of where they have been. Larger mammals, such as bears and cougars, occasionally

swim to the Islands but they are mostly nocturnal and avoid humans. Sandy beaches, rocky shores, tree-lined coasts, the Islands are surrounded by places to connect with the sea. Shoreline access points provide trails to the waterfront all around the islands. Boat launches invite day sailors and kayakers to enjoy the sea while public and private docks welcome visitors and residents to stay and enjoy the islands.

Smaller Islands have ingenious plans for providing services to their residents. A nurse practitioner, a visiting physician, prescription pickups, and on Island emergency crews & care aids make health care and recovery at home possible. Local stores offer point of sale transactions and freight services bring larger items to your door.

$439,000 Set in pristine forest with breathtaking ocean views to Paisley Island, this home has barely been lived in and awaits your personal touch. It is an excellent build, with beautiful finishes, lots of natural light and gorgeous reclaimed wood floors. The location is among the most desirable on the island, nestled in a welcoming community close to West Beach, and walking distance from the wharf at Eastbourne which is regularly served by water taxi. Enjoy wonderful sunsets on the huge wrap-around deck, and winter getaways by the wood-burning stove. Currently three bedrooms, but there is lots of square footage to play with and ample room to add another bedroom.
