Getting to the Island... With good road and rail links to the south coast and a range of passenger and vehicle crossings all taking less than an hour, the Isle of Wight is the perfect place for a hassle free holiday whichever way you choose to travel.
Wightlink
Upon arrival at either the historic city of Portsmouth or the quaint harbour at Lymington, your holiday to the Isle of Wight has begun. All that’s left is a journey across the Solent on either the vehicle or passenger service. The catamaran foot passenger service takes approximately 20 minutes and runs from Portsmouth Harbour directly to the end of Ryde Pier on the Island, with convenient rail links at both Ryde and Portsmouth Wightlink run two car ferry routes to the Island. The first leaves Portsmouth Gunwharf and arrives at Fishbourne with a crossing time of approximately 45 minutes, the second departs from Lymington in the New Forest and docks in the pretty harbour town of Yarmouth at the western end of the Isle of Wight approximately 40 minutes later.

Red Funnel
It’s amazing how a sea crossing can transport you to another world. Red Funnel offers both vehicle and Hi-Speed passenger services from Southampton that dock at East Cowes and Cowes respectively. The Red Jet is a catamaran service to the world-renowned sailing mecca of Cowes, which benefits from a fast 25 minute crossing and free shuttle bus from Southampton Central Station and main shopping centres to the terminal. The Red Funnel vehicle ferries are the largest serving the Island and run from Southampton to East Cowes. This service takes approximately one hour during which you can enjoy the onboard cafÊ, bar, coffee shop, top deck BBQ and free entertainment on selected peak dates.
