Welcome to summer on the Isle of Wight. The sun is shining, the beer gardens are blooming and our tummies are rumbling! Thankfully, our little gem of an island boasts a huge array of produce to fill your bellies, thanks to its unique microclimate and extra hours of sunshine (lucky us!) It’s almost like a mini-Mediterranean with our fresh garlic, juicy tomatoes and a wide abundance of seafood on offer, especially during the summer months – read our article on the freshest seafood around and where to eat it on page 32. The Island truly has a foodie offering that punches well above its small size – our pubs, restaurants and cafés make the most of the amazing items right on their doorstep, turning them into delicious dishes in some of the most stunning locations around – see our guide to ‘Food with a View’ on page 80. You will also find a jam-packed foodie calendar with many events for the whole family including the worldfamous Garlic Festival and the legendary Classic Beer, Buses and Walks Weekend and many more on page 92. So tuck right in and discover all the food and drink that the Isle of Wight has to offer.

DON'T MISS OUT ON! —

Grains o paradis f e

The Island is famed for an abundance of local produce, grown in our fertile soils, reared on our lush landscape or in our crystal waters. Here are our picks not to miss out on... n Lemo Zest

#1 GIN

Page 10

Well, after all that food, it’s nice to wash it down with a local tipple too. Mermaid Pink Gin is brand new for summer 2019. It infuses the flavour and aromatics of Island strawberries with the smooth yet complex taste of the award-winning Mermaid Gin, a blend of lemon zest, grains of paradise and fragrant rock samphire. Try a Mermaid Pink Gin & tonic – garnished with strawberries, fresh mint or a slice of lime, it’s summer in a glass.

#2 TOMATOES

You can actually taste the extra hours of sunshine that go into The Tomato Stall’s famous fayre. Tomatoes have been growing in the rich and fertile Arreton Valley for over 30 years. Each year, over 40 varieties are grown, from the hearty beef to the naturally sweet Piccolo. Buy from local farm shops including Brownrigg’s and Briddlesford Lodge Farm Shop. x taste o f th e w ig h t a Taste IW b t a st eoft hewight Dont Miss Out.indd 1

#3 COFFEE

Ok, so not technically grown here, but we will make an exception for Island Roasted coffee for the sheer dedication that goes into it. The family team source the coffee directly from small farms and then hand roast it in small batches using drum roasters, allowing the coffee time to develop its true avour.

Page 11

#4 GARLIC

The folks over at The Garlic Farm have been growing the pungent bulb for over 50 years in Newchurch. What started out as a kitchen garden has grown to a large farm with many varieties of garlic available to buy. Visit the on-site restaurant to try some of the tastiest dishes (featuring garlic, naturally) or take home garlic products such as mayonnaise, butter and even ice cream!

#5 MACKEREL

Seafood features heavily on plates across the Island, thanks to being surrounded by water. The ďŹ sh tend to arrive off the shores in May and leave in October, so summer is the ideal time to try. CAFFÉ ISOLA

At the forefront of the Island’s artisan coffee scene... The Burgess family opened Caffé Isola in 2004, as a flagship store for The I.O.W Espresso Co. In 2010 they launched their ‘Island Roasted Coffee’ which is stocked Islandwide and further afield. 2018 saw expansion into a new site in Upper St James Street, Newport. The former Beavis building, once a church lecture hall, became the perfect space to expand the artisan café and incorporate even more local retail products. The menu showcases local produce and is inspired by the family’s Sicilian heritage. Expect paninis, hand cut sandwiches, salads, pasta specials and plenty of homemade cakes! Caffé Isola is fully licensed and open in the evening for events and coffee courses. Upstairs you’ll find some of the Island’s great cottage industry producers and their products. Soon, you will be able to experience a small scale version of the roastery – from green coffee preperation, to drum roasting and packing.

meet the cheesemaker Richard Hodgson, Isle of Wight Cheese Co What is the best thing about the Isle of Wight foodie scene? I think for me as a producer, it’s the feeling that you’re part of a special collective. When I speak to other producers, chefs and shop owners, I realise how many values we all share and how we’re all on the same team when it comes to challenges that we face.

What is your favourite dish you cook using your cheese? I really like to keep it simple, so I’ll happily spread any of the soft cheeses on to warm bread or fresh toast. Sometimes with a basil and garlic paste on top.

Page 22

Where is your favourite place to eat your produce on the Island? There are too many to single out, but I’m always impressed with the level of skill that exists across the Island in the kitchens we supply. There are so many inventive dishes, created in the Island’s pubs and restaurants that take our cheese to another level.

What is your favourite event on the Island? A tie between the Randonee and Walk the Wight.

What is your local tipple? At this time of the year, ice cold Wight Crystal all day long!

It was top of the list based on the reviews and opinions of TripAdvisor travellers during the heatwave last summer, and you will soon see why. QUARR ABBEY

Page 30

Quarr Abbey has the perfect balance between field and fork, with parts of the Abbey’s 200 acre estate being worked to produce a huge array of food stuffs...

The style of growing here is definitely traditional and in keeping with the overall ethos of the Abbey – that you get back what you put in. Head Gardener Matthew Noyce takes this literally with traditional growing methods, nothing is artificially grown, nor are any pesticides used. This results in a far more labour intensive growing plan, but the taste and variety on offer make it all worthwhile. Following the traditional theme, much of the fruit and veg grown here are of a heritage variety, although they look anything but traditional! From purple carrots to the aptly named Turks Turban squash, heritage and legacy vegetables allow a range of flavours to be grown. The tea and farm shop sits within a beautifully maintained garden with the imposing Abbey creating a picture-perfect backdrop. Chefs work closely with the gardening team to create specials showing off what is on offer. Sharer’s boards are a favourite and it’s easy to see why. Using freshly picked salads and produce taken directly from the Abbey’s vegetable plot, with choices of meat, fish and ploughman’s, creating a delicious lunch for two. x taste tasteooffth theewwig ighhtt a a Taste TasteIW IW b t a st eoft hewight Ice Cream.indd 7 Quarr Abbey_TotW_Advertorial Spread_Jan19 V2.indd All Pages

The range of products in the farm shop that is either grown, made or farmed on the Abbey’s grounds is staggering. Jams and chutneys jostle for space next to eggs – freshly laid by the rescued ex-commercial hens you can find in the walled garden – and Quarr honey, harvested from the Abbey’s own busy bees, who collect their pollen and nectar from the specially created wildflower meadow.

Fruits de mer

The Isle of Wight, surrounded by crystal blue water, has an abundance of seafood to hand (well, line or net). Year-round many of our local restaurants, pubs and cafés serve up fresh, seasonal fish dishes. Whether you’re after mussels, crab, bass or mackerel there’s plenty on offer across the Island and throughout the year...

Probably the best view on the Island, The Spyglass Inn is famed for great food, live music and real ales. The specials board has an emphasis on seafood, much of which is caught locally by Ventnor Haven Fishery. The main menu has a host of tempting dishes from mussels in a delicious garlic butter, a delicately spiced seafood curry, calamari and whitebait to name a few. Dining with friends? Pre-order the Admiral’s Platter, local lobster and crab meat, mussels, prawns, sardines, mackerel, salmon… a feast fit for Nelson! thespyglass.com Set on Island Harbour Marina, The Breeze is perfect for spending a lazy afternoon or relaxed evening. There’s an extensive menu with seafood throughout but there’s also a dedicated ‘From The Ocean’ section. Try moules mariniére, mussels cooked in white wine, garlic and onions, finished with cream and served with warm rustic bread. Starters include traditional prawn and avocado but with a Bloody Mary twist. Everyone’s favourite fishy starter, salt and pepper squid with fresh salad is also on offer and keep an eye on the ever-changing specials board for more seafood delights.

The Spyglass is in an unbeatable location perched on Ventnor beach.

Sitting on Bembridge Ledge, The Crab and Lobster Inn overlooks the sea, so you can dine with a spectacular view. Famous for seafood platters, you can choose between a cold or hot version. The cold platter has crab, smoked salmon, prawns and mussels served with salad and local crusty bread. The hot seafood platter is for two, with crab and half a lobster alongside a variety of daily hot seafoods. There’s also a creamy seafood risotto and a rich seafood chowder. The phrase spoiled for choice fits well here.

Page 33

For unique dining visit The Bandstand, the four glass walls allow for panoramic views across Sandown Bay. Serving up moules mariniére, enjoy as a starter or main, a bowl brimming with mussels in a tasty garlicy, creamy sauce served alongside a hunk of bread. Indulge in fish and chips, a fresh, healthier alternative to the British classic as it has no batter. Favourites such as a Jack Sprats starter lead the way to a staple of scampi and chips. There’s always something tempting on the specials board so if the main menu hasn’t caught your attention, this will.

characterinns.co.uk Here’s your chance to dine in a floating café. Located on Bembridge Harbour, The Best Dressed Crab serves some of the freshest shellfish on the Island, landed straight from the boat and then served up. Try one of the filled baguettes or freshly-made sandwiches or a shellfish salad of local whole or half lobster, crab or prawns. For groups, the seafood platter is a must, a whole lobster, dressed crab, mussels, clams with a fresh salad and baguette. thebestdressedcrabintown.co.uk The Hut sits right by the sea, so you’d expect a pretty spectacular seafood offering. Get your group to order a few seafood treats from the starters menu. Sample monkfish tacos, sashimi and grilled octopus. There are regular fish dishes on the main menu alongside more seasonal specials. Whole fish mains include stone bass, sea bream and sand sole. For two, try the Surf n’ Turf; côte de boeuf, lobster, crevettes, salad and fries. With its removable roof, so inside quickly becomes outside, it’s an unmissable spot. thehutcolwell.co.uk

The Red Squirrel Trail is a dedicated cycle track extending from Sandown through to Newport and finishing in Cowes. Part gravel and tarmac, this route is built on top of the old railway line. Spanning a good portion of the Island, you have the added benefit of extending your kilometres while barely having to touch a road. When you get peckish, you can stop at Peddlers Café in Newchurch along this route, for a light bite or a yummy coffee and cake. Perhaps pop into The Pointer Inn for some of the best pub grub on the Island, including the legendary Newchurch Pie.

meet the chef Ashley Randle, The Hambrough What is the best thing about the Isle of Wight foodie scene? The local produce is great – I can’t think of anything you could want that the Island can’t provide. 95% of our menu is Island-sourced, fish, meat, veg… I am quite a fan of The Garlic Farm too.

What is the one dish on your menu you keep coming back to? The Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese seems to have become a signature dish here now, it’s a dish that started off in a Michelin-starred pub, The Troubled House, as a Lobster & Black Pudding Pie. It has had many forms over the years but the flavours are great – I can’t see it changing any more.

What is your local tipple?

Page 48

The local ales – Duck’s Folly seems to hit the spot.

Where is your favourite place, other than The Hambrough, to eat on the Island? I can’t really get a lot of time off, just Mondays, so it’s usually a BBQ at my place on a Monday afternoon.

What is your favourite event on the Island? Anything in Ventnor with the sun out – it’s a great town with great people, so anything that brings it together.

24 hours in...

The Spyglass Inn.

The Island has plenty of places for all types of hunger pangs – be it breakfast, brunch or after dinner cocktails, each town has its hot spots. Here’s our guide to how to spend a foodie 24 hours in Ventnor... Start the day with a classic fry-up and join the ‘Ventnorians’ heading down to the art-deco building housing Ventnor Winter Gardens for one of its tasty breakfasts. Situated overlooking the bay above Ventnor Haven, you can enjoy beautiful views out onto the water as you start the day right.

Afternoon tea at The Royal – as Queen Victoria would’ve enjoyed it.

If you really like your food (like us!) then squeeze in a brunch/coffee stop too. Hello Sailor (previously the Ale & Oyster) is the latest addition to the Esplanade. It’s the perfect pit stop to grab a bite, relax with a coffee and soak up the atmosphere. You might need a bit of a walk now (no offence!), so why not take a scenic stroll along to Steephill Cove, which in itself has an abundance of great places to choose from. For something special, try The Boathouse, where you can lunch on the freshest fish and seafood caught that very morning by the cove’s own fishermen, and sit on a deck with some of the most stunning views out across the sea.

Steephill Cove, only accessible on foot.

Surely now it’s time for a cheeky pre-dinner drink at The Spyglass Inn? This world-famous, award-winning inn is steeped in history, being one of the oldest buildings on the Esplanade and dating from around 1830. With its great beer and fantastic atmosphere, it’s an absolute must. There’s also a good chance that there’ll be some live music on from some talented locals.

Page 53

Having walked down along the coastal path you could head back through Ventnor Park until you get to The Royal. Famous for its afternoon tea offering, treat yourself to a dainty assortment of sandwiches, followed by a seductive selection of cakes, meringues, patisseries and freshly-baked scones with clotted cream – all freshly prepared and served with an array of teas. If the sun is out, take it in the lovely Mediterranean gardens, looking down over Ventnor town and bay.

Ventnor Exchange – theatre, arts centre, craft beer bar and record strore.

Then stroll back up for dinner at The Hambrough. Now in the very capable hands of head chef Ashley Randle (who is in the semi-finals of the National Chef of the Year Award 2019), this modern European menu features local suppliers wherever possible and is full of sophisticated yet affordable fare. Enjoy the catch of the day, local meats, cheeses and some of the tastiest desserts around. Finally, end your evening with a nightcap. Ventnor Exchange is located in a former post office which now houses a studio theatre, record store and craft beer bar with over 50 guest beers at any one time. It’s undoubtedly the best place on the Island to catch innovative new work, as well as browse vinyl, meet friends and relax with like-minded people. It’s also the HQ for the Ventnor Fringe Festival, this year sees the festival’s ten year anniversary!

Try Ventnor Bay seafood fresh from the Haven Fishery at The Spyglass Inn.

The Garlic Farm is one of the early pioneers of this movement, with garlic taking centre stage in both the restaurant and farm shop. Quarr Abbey has a whole host of produce growing in its allotments, which is then turned into tasty dishes in the Tea Shop or picked for you to take home from the Farm Shop. It also produces its own honey and even has its very own Quarr Abbey Ale, made by local brewery Goddards which uses coriander and sweet gale grown within the gardens. quarrabbey.org

meet the salt panner Simon Davies, Wight Salt What is the best thing about the Isle of Wight foodie scene? I think the accent is on shopping and eating local produce. This has fuelled a real boom on the Island with a large diversity of produce including honey, garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, potatoes, cheese and milk, as well as plenty of local seafood of course, along with businesses like Pink’s, Mr C’s and The Borneo Pantry. The standards are high and I feel that we all, as a community, need to support these businesses at whatever level we are able to.

What is your favourite dish you cook using your salt?

ch

Little can top having sea bass fillets from Ventnor Haven, pan fried with the Lime Sea Salt Spray as a marinade applied about 20 minutes before. I have this usually with new potatoes and asparagus, both from the Island, with Briddlesford butter and… salt!

Where is your favourite place to eat on the Island? Page 59

I supply Wight Salt to a number of places all over the Island, many of which I also eat in because I love the individuality of the chefs and appreciate what they are creating on their own terms. For this reason I can’t select an outright favourite.

What is your favourite event on the Island? Ventnor Fringe (I’m playing classical piano at gigs there this year) also Rhythmtree is great, but playing clarinet in a green toga in Ventnor Comic Jazz Band at Ventnor Carnival takes some beating!

What is your local tipple? I enjoy bitters like Goddards’ Fuggle-Dee-Dum, and Adgestone Vineyard have a pretty good Rosé Blush. Generally I’m quite diverse and will sample most things until I find difficulty walking!

Real Ale Guide to the Isle of Wight

The Anchor Inn, Cowes – known for their regular live music as well as its beer.

Gone are the days when real ale was confined to being drunk by men of a certain age in social clubs, now, and rightly so, many people are getting on the proverbial wagon…

LOCAL BREWERIES:

Did you know that the Island is home to not one, not two but THREE local independent breweries? Goddards, Island Brewery and Yates’. Goddards Brewery, technically the oldest of the three, brew with local barley and have a brand new beer on the market called Planet Lager, as well as a full range of classic real ales such as the popular Fuggle-Dee-Dum or the award-winning Quarr Abbey Ale, brewed in collaboration with the Benedictine monks of Quarr Abbey using the abbey’s own coriander and sweet gale. Island Brewery, based on the west of the Island, have always had quality at the forefront of everything they do… and brew! Look out for Nipper Bitter – straw coloured, light and refreshing, Wight Gold as the name suggests is a lovely crystal malt brew and Yachtsman’s Ale is the darkest of the three and has the disclaimer that even the landlubbers will enjoy it.

Clockwise from top: Yates’ selection of ales, Goddards’ newest addition Planet Lager and Island Brewery’s Nipper Bitter

Lastly, Yates’ who have been brewing out of Newchurch since the millennium, have got something for all tastes, whether it’s a light refreshing summer drink like Beachcomber or Golden Bitter, or a dark coloured ale like Islander.

The Buddle is a 16th-century freehouse (and reportedly a smugglers’ inn at one point) complete with ancient flagstones and beams. It has a strong following for the real ale connoisseurs, with six available. In Sandown, The Castle Inn has six real ales, including the best from local breweries. They love their ale so much that they hold a couple of beer festivals each year and have an extended happy hour most evenings.

The Buddle Inn, Niton, not only dog friendly BUT child friendly too!

Page 62

REAL ALE PUBS:

Ye Olde Village Inn, Bembridge, has reputedly been pulling pints since 1787 and shows no sign of stopping. Sourcing real ales from across the country, there are always four real ales on pump and a selection on rotation.

Many of the Island’s pubs will have a couple of real ales on offer, but there are some that really aim to please with their choices:

Sip a pint of real ale overlooking the Solent at The Boathouse in Seaview. In the winter, take a seat by the roaring fire, but when the summer is here, it has to be a seat outside looking across to the mainland.

The Bargeman’s Rest is one such place. Situated on the quay in Newport, it is famed for its real ale offering. Here, you will find a traditional pub, home to an ever-changing selection of beers and local ales.

The Anchor Inn, Cowes, is extremely popular during the summer months when the pub spills out onto the pavement (especially during Cowes Week). There are usually four real ales on in rotation.

A beautiful example of a traditional country pub set in outstanding surroundings. Select your meal from the daily specials board, and enjoy an excellent meal either in the bar, restaurant or patio garden. We’re noted for our local meat, seafood and shellfish. Complement your meal with a wine from our extensive wine list, or a pint of real ale. Walkers and cyclists welcome.

Page 63 Many of the Island’s pubs get involved in the Beer & Buses event but in the last few years the IW Steam Railway has joined in the route too!

REAL ALE EVENTS: Lots of our pubs will hold their own real ale events throughout the year, but the star of the calendar has got to be the annual Beer, Buses and Walks Weekend.

Taking place on the 12-13 October 2019, nearly 100 pubs are set to take part with at least 80 restored classic buses dating from 1940 to 2000 servicing the routes, including one coming from Belgium! What better way to tour the Island’s idyllic landscape than in true style, atop an old Routemaster. Many of these fine establishments do a little extra on this special weekend, whether that’s a few additional guest ales on tap for travellers to enjoy, a special food menu to line those stomachs or even some local live entertainment to get the party started.

Make The Bargeman’s Rest annual beer festival your first stop for Beer & Buses.

Routes start from either the IW Bus Museum in Ryde – ideal for those arriving by Wightlink FastCat or at Newport Quay in the centre of the Island. There are more routes than ever this year, running more regularly, plus a route that includes East Cowes for the first time.

Top Takeaways Although finding a great pub or café is a highlight of any holiday, sometimes all you want to do is grab some fish and chips and eat them on the beach, or sit down with an Indian takeaway in front of the TV. Here’s our guide to some of the top takeaways on the Island…

Page 66

If it’s pizza you are craving, Wightwood Pizza is definitely worth a visit. Zipping around the West Wight in a vintage Citröen van, they make dedicated stops in Yarmouth, Freshwater Bay, Grange Farm and others. Using local produce wherever possible, there are three regular flavours and a weekly special. Book ahead – they often sell out. wightwoodpizza.co.uk

The Nepalese dishes on the menu at Masala Bay are the ones to try.

One of the most popular Chinese restaurants on the Island, Royal China is situated on the High Street in Sandown. An explosion of colour inside, the takeaway menu has all of the favourites you would expect as well as the renowned ‘sizzling’ dishes. If you collect it yourself, you get a free bottle of wine thrown in on orders over £55. Bonus. royalchinaiow.co.uk

Who in the morning has ever fancied a full English but couldn’t muster the enthusiasm to cook one? Well, thankfully the cheery folk at Sails Café in Cowes who are renowned for their breakfasts are now offering them as a takeaway option too! facebook.com/SailsCafe

Can you even call it a seaside holiday if you’ve not had a portion of fish and chips? No, we don’t think so either. Thankfully, you are never too far from a tasty portion and The Jolly Fryer makes sure of that. A mobile fish and chip van, stopping in locations that tend not to have their own dedicated takeaway shop, including Chale, Niton, Godshill, Nettlestone and St Helens, serving up some of the tastiest chips around. thejollyfryer.com When only a curry will do, Masala Bay in Ventnor is the place to go. Offering all the classics you would expect, the stars of the show are the Nepalese dishes, which combine a range of ingredients, techniques and characteristics and, happily, are generally healthier than most other South Asian cuisines.

In a hurry? Try the Sails Café full English as a takeaway!

Harvested in a simple and natural way, Wight Salt is a rustic pleasure and a foodie connoisseurs delight. The Seawater is drawn from Wheelers Bay in Ventnor, a coastline with very strong tides bringing in mineral rich water from the Atlantic. Filtered into low lying tanks inside polytunnels, the water evaporates slowly, leaving white crystals with a strikingly individual depth of flavour. Well rounded with a hint of sweetness, Wight Salt is fast becoming a staple with a growing number of chefs and food lovers. Available in over 30 stockists on the Island, as well as some of the Island’s top pubs and restaurants to eat and drink, including Cantina, Thompson’s, The Garlic Farm, The Bistro and Burrs restaurant.

meet the vegan pioneer Stephanie Norris, Peach What is the best thing about the Isle of Wight foodie scene? The recommendations for the ‘best something-orother on the Island’ is nearly always an independent outlet rather than a national chain. People here realise that the folk at Slab, Oil of Wight, Island Roasted, The Borneo Pantry, Pink’s, Crave, Wild Island etc are world-class, and are happy to give them the custom and word-of-mouth exposure which we all need to stay afloat.

What is the one dish on your menu you keep coming back to? My favourite (and most eaten) dish on the menu has to be the coconut Bae-con, scrambled tofu and maple syrup buckwheat pancakes. I also love to introduce plant-based sceptics to this dish, as bacon and eggs are often at the centre of many a vegan debate! Our coconut Bae-con and scrambled tofu recipes have both had some fine tweaking over the last couple of years, and they’ve proven to be a popular breakfast choice here.

What is your local tipple?

Page 74

At the risk of being predictable, it’ll have to be Mermaid Gin. It’s so delicious, and I’m a big fan of the steps they’ve taken with their refill scheme to increase their sustainability.

Where is your favourite place, other than Peach, to eat on the Island? We have so many favourites so apologies to anyone we don’t mention here! However, we love it at Off The Rails, Three Buoys and Number 8 Café. The passion and hospitality totally match the quality of their food.

What is your favourite event on the Island? Rhythmtree! We love music as much as we love food, and the guys there really know how to put on a great music festival.

What is the one dish on your menu you keep coming back to? The American Brekkie Waffle is a big favourite, with customers too. The combination of smoked streaky bacon and the sweet Canadian maple syrup, alongside the soft bubble waffle, is truly irresistible.

What is your local tipple? I enjoy a Mermaid Gin as well as some of Goddards Brewery’s ales.

Page 86

Where is your favourite place to go for dinner? My wife and I enjoy going to The Blacksmith’s – the roast belly of pork is to die for.

What is your favourite event on the Island? I really enjoyed Island Con last year, we catered for it, but this year I am very excited about The Great Wonderfest in early August and FanTC Con in late August.

VENTNOR BOTANIC GARDEN With its magnificent location in the Ventnor Undercliff, Ventnor Botanic Garden has an unparalleled collection of plants and regularly utilises these in its edulis restaurant... Head Chef Brad Roe, who has an AA Rosette Award to his name as well as 20 years working in Michelin star restaurants, can often be seen foraging both the nurseries and the garden itself, looking for unique salad leaves, edible flowers and new and exotic plants and micro herbs that he incorporates into the edulis menu, ‘edulis’ meaning ‘edible’ in Latin.

Try the garden’s own produce including chutneys, relishes, preserves, oyster mushrooms and salsa. If you like a beer, try an organic ale or lager, brewed using the varieties of hops grown in the garden.

Page 91

The dynamic pairing of Brad with the garden’s curator, Chris Kidd, marries fine dining with the creative use of garden-grown plants, from garden to table. Together they are continually adding new plants to the kitchen, exploring individual and combination flavours and creating new and exotic tastes. The garden has also introduced evening dining in edulis, comprising a series of themed tasting menus including Plant Based, Isle of Wight Produce, South American, Carnivore and Seafood.

The Plantation Room Café is open throughout the day from 10am until 5pm serving teas, barista coffee, homemade cakes and light lunches. Undercliff Drive, Ventnor PO38 1UL 01983 855397 botanic.co.uk
