This hotel was initially designed to be 380 meters tall but it was later changed into 333 meters. The hotel comprises of 72 floors and 482 rooms. It started operating from December, 14, 2009.

Malaysia Airlines change strategies for the convenience of customers ตั้งแต่วันที่ 1 กรกฎาคม 2556 สายการบิน มาเลเซีย แอร์ไลน์ จะน�ำราคาน�้ำมันมารวมกับราคาตั๋วโดยสาร ส�ำหรับ ตัว๋ ทีอ่ อกจากกรุงเทพฯและภูเก็ต โดยสายการบินมาเลเซีย ในหลายประเทศได้เริม่ เปลีย่ นบ้างแล้ว อาทิเช่น นิวซีแลนด์ อินเดีย สิงคโปร์ เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้ราคาจะถูกเปลี่ยนแปลงโดยอัตโนมัติในทุกช่องทาง การขายของสายการบินฯ ซึ่ง เป็นราคาที่รวมทุกอย่างแล้ว (ยกเว้นภาษีสนามบิน) การปรับเปลี่ยนในครั้งนี้จะท�ำให้ผู้โดยสารมองเห็นถึงราคา ที่แท้จริงและง่ายต่อการตัดสินใจซื้อบริการของสายการบินได้สะดวกยิ่งขึ้น From July 1st 2013, Malaysia Airlines will combine the fuel price with the fare for tickets issued in Bangkok and Phuket. This strategy has already been used by Malaysia Airlines in many countries such as New Zealand, India and Singapore. Price will be automatically changed in all sales channels of the airline. The new price is all inclusive (excluding airport tax). This modification will allow passengers to see the actual price which will make it easier for passengers to make their decision.

Skytrax is acknowledged as running one of the most comprehensive customer satisfaction surveys in the airline industry. Airline passengers from more than 160 countries participated in the latest survey, which covered more than 200 airlines worldwide. The survey measures standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline products and services.

Mr. Temel Kotil, President and CEO of Turkish Airlines said that the paper had been issued by low leveled managers without the confirmation from the top management. However the issue has been settled. Suan Santichaiparakarn is a small park situating on Phra Athit Road near Pom Prasumen Fort, the only fort in Bangkok. Wat Phra Kaew is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. It was constructed in the beautiful delicate Rattanakosin style and enshrines the statue of the Emerald Buddha. The construction of the Temple of Emerald Buddha started when King Rama I moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785 which is the beginning of the Rattanakosin Era. The most outstanding part of the temple is the walls that are decorated with typically Thai murals, based on the Indian epic Ramayana. The murals consist of 178 scenes painted by the best artists during the Rattanakosin Era. In addition to being a place for important religious worship, Wat Phra Kaew is also a one of the best place in the world to learn art, history and literature . Although Wat Phra Kaew is more than 200 years old, but the temple’s beauty and grandeur are still able to attract a lot of tourists, both Thai and foreigners.

I took a minibus from the railway station into the city. Along both sides of the road, I could see the lush rice terraces surrounding by mountains with streams flowing from the top. The atmosphere is similar to Thailand 20 years ago, cool breeze at the temperature of 25°c. The weather at Sapa downtown area is cool and comfortable in anytime of the year because of it locates 1650 meters above the sea level. The city is divided into 3 zones. There’s a large lake locating in the middle of the city surrounded by colorful picturesque French style buildings. Sapa used to be the resort town for the French during the colonial era in 1922. Restaurants here serve delicious food and the price is not too expensive (it’s recommended to dine at the restaurants because the price won’t be charged). Beer and tea in Sapa also taste good and easy to find. The first attraction that I’d recommend is an ancient Christian Church. CÁT CÁT Village is an old village of Hmong people who migrated from China who usually wear traditional navy blue and black clothes. Hmong people build their houses alternate with rice terraces in the mountains. CÁT CÁT Village has become a popular attraction among foreign tourists. If you can manage to walk further into the mountain, you’ll find a waterfall and a local restaurant where you can rest and enjoy the atmosphere. There is also a small patio next to the stream where Hmong people perform their ceremonies. This trip allow me to experience pure nature as well as recharge my battery after long hours of hard work

สิ่งที่อยากให้นักท่องเที่ยวไทยหันมาให้ความสนใจ คือการศึกษาประวัติศาสตร์ในท้องถิ่นที่ตัวเองไปเที่ยวอย่าง ลึกซึ้ง ศึกษาชื่อบ้านนามเมืองของเขา ศึกษาวิถีชีวิตชุมชน เพราะส่วนใหญ่นักท่องเที่ยวไทยเวลาไปเที่ยวที่ไหนก็จะดู แบบผิวเผินหมด อยากให้หันมาสนใจเรื่องสารัตถะของการ ท่องเทีย่ วมากขึน้ ถ้าจะไปดูศลิ ปะก็อยากให้ศกึ ษาความรูเ้ กีย่ วกับ ศิลปะ ถึงจะเข้าใจและซาบซึ้งกับมัน มัคคุเทศน์น�ำชมก็เป็น เรื่องส�ำคัญ ต้องมีความรู้และชักจูงให้นักท่องเที่ยวให้สนใจได้ พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะยังไม่ค่อยมีคนไทยเข้าไปดู เรามีพิพิธภัณฑ์ อยูเ่ ยอะ แต่กเ็ งียบเหงาไม่คอ่ ยมีคนเข้าไปเยีย่ มชม การทีจ่ ะดู งานศิลปะให้รู้เรื่องและสนุกต้องได้คนที่รู้ประวัติศาสตร์ศิลป์ ซึ่งในต่างประเทศเขาพาไปตั้งแต่ชั้นอนุบาล คนน�ำชมเป็นครู ศิลปะของแต่ละโรงเรียน ท�ำให้เขาซึมซับแต่เด็ก อย่างถ้าไป เที่ยวตลาดน�้ำก็อยากให้ศึกษาว่า มันเป็นวัฒนธรรมของไทย ที่อยู่คู่สังคมมานับร้อยปี เดี๋ยวนี้มีอินเตอร์เน็ตควรจะเสิร์ช หาข้อมูลไปก่อน อยากให้ไปเที่ยวสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวเชิงศิลปวัฒนธรรมให้มากขึน้ ไปตามแหล่งโบราณคดี แหล่งมรดกโลก ต่างๆ ถึงแม้มันอาจจะไม่บันเทิง แต่มันจะท�ำให้รู้สึกถึงคุณค่า ของโบราณคดี

งานช่างต่างๆ คนท�ำหายไปเยอะ คนท�ำเดิมก็ไม่มี เรี่ยวแรงท�ำ เช่น ทอผ้าที่แม่แจ่ม คนทอน้อยลง อาจจะเป็น ด้วยรายได้ที่ไม่ดี หรือการถ่ายทอดที่ไม่ดี ทุกที่ก็จะมีสภาพ เปลี่ยนแปลงไปเป็นเมืองเหมือนกันหมด องค์กรบริหารจะท�ำ ยังไง ที่จะผสมผสานวัฒนธรรมเก่ากับวัฒนธรรมใหม่ให้ได้

Recognize the Value of the Assets

I would like Thai tourists to do an in depth research on their destinations beforehand including history and culture because most Thai tourists only visit on the surface. For example an art exhibition, tourists need to enjoy the art works and have some knowledge about it. Guides play the important roles. 32 32

They need to have knowledge and the ability to draw the attention from tourists. There are many museums that lack number of tourists because they don’t understand the art works. In order for tourists to understand and appreciate art works, tour guides must be skillful. In other countries, people start visiting art museums since kindergarten which helps them absorb the appreciation at a very young age. Nowadays internet is a powerful tool for tourists to do researches. In addition, I would like to promote art and cultural tourism including the visitation of archeological sites and world heritage. They might not be very entertaining but they show the assets of each country.

Preserve the Traditions

The traditional craftsmanship is currently in lack of descendants such as silk weaving in Mae Jam. Maybe it doesn’t create good profit or an ineffective teaching. Small towns are slowly being urbanized. Government offices are trying to combine the old and new cultures. We’re not preventing locals in using electricity or internet. We’re preserving traditions as well as bringing better infrastructure into the communities. Local schools must be the first sources for children to learn about their roots. In Mexico, children must be able to do the traditional dances. We should do the same thing as well for examples, children in Angthong should be able to perform the musical folk drama or children in northern part must play traditional music instruments.

Continuing Development to Build New Assets

A great development can be done on Rattanakosin Island. There’re many communities with rich cultures including architecture and cuisine. They can become new attractions for both Thai and foreign tourists. These attractions are great sources of knowledge that every school should send their students on the educational trips. School teachers and local guides must be able to educate students. We have to cultivate our children love and appreciation of culture and traditions. Their love and appreciation will help preserving the national assets.

I’ve traveled to almost every province in Thailand and many places that I never thought I’d had a chance to visit”, she responses to our question about her traveling frequency. The next question is about her favorite trip, she says “My favorite trip was when I attended Chiang Mai Flower Festival with my family when I was young. ผูอ้ า่ นหลายๆ คนคงเคยตืน่ แต่เช้ามาท�ำบุญตักบาตร แต่ใครเลย จะรู้ว่าบาตรพระที่เราท�ำบุญใส่ข้าวปลาอาหารกันนั้น ส่วนหนึ่ง เป็นงานฝีมือจากชาวบ้าน “ชุมชนบ้านบาตร” ชุมชนเก่าแก่ใน เกาะรัตนโกสินทร์ที่ยึดอาชีพการท�ำบาตรมากว่าร้อยปี “ชุมชนบ้านบาตร” เกิดขึ้นพร้อมกับความเจริญรุ่งเรือง ของพุทธศาสนาในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 ในสมัยนัน้ มีวดั เกิดขึน้ เป็นจ�ำนวน มาก จึงท�ำให้ธุรกิจการตีบาตรเฟื่องฟูตามไปด้วย ทว่าในปัจจุบันมี โรงงานผลิตบาตรส�ำเร็จรูปที่สามารถผลิตบาตรได้ครั้งละมากๆ เกิดขึ้น อาชีพท�ำบาตรจึงลดน้อยลงและเหลือเพียงไม่กี่เจ้าเท่านั้น บาตรท�ำมือต้องอาศัยการตีขึ้นรูปและตกแต่งนับร้อย นับพันครั้ง ซึ่งต้องใช้เวลาถึง 3 วัน ต่อการท�ำบาตรหนึ่งชิ้น แต่ มีอายุใช้งานนานนับ 40 ปี เลยทีเดียว ปัจจุบันการท�ำบาตรจ�ำกัด อยู่เพียงการรับสั่งท�ำจากพระสงฆ์และท�ำเป็นของที่ระลึกเท่านั้น การท�ำบาตรที่ “ชุมชนบ้านบาตร” คือหนึ่งในวิถีชีวิต สมัยเก่า ที่หาดูได้ยาก ทว่า หากได้แวะมาก็จะพบกับวิถีชีวิตอีก รูปแบบหนึ่งในเมืองกรุงที่ยังคงรักษาเอกลักษณ์ดั้งเดิมเอาไว้ ซึ่งเราเชื่อเหลือเกินว่า ไม่ว่าใครที่ได้สัมผัสก็ต้องรู้สึกเหมือนกัน ว่า... คุณค่าของงานท�ำมือนั้น มีเสน่ห์อย่างน่าประหลาดใจ

The daily ritual of Buddhist monks collecting alms (donation of food) can be seen every morning. The large bowls that monks carry to store food is called “Bat”, which are the products of Ban Bat Community, an old community on Rattanakosin Island. “Ban Bat Community” grows along with the prosperity of Buddhism during the reign of King Rama I. Although nowadays, the community has inclined due to the factory produced Bat, there is a small number of families still producing Bat the traditional way. Making one Bat the traditional way requires 3 days of forging and decorating, but its usability could last for 40 years. Ban Bat Community currently takes orders from the monks only. However Bat souvenirs are available at the community. Bat production at Ban Bat Community reflects the traditional way of life that still preserves its unique identity. If you have time to visit this place, you’ll find that this handmade product is surprisingly attractive.
