Welcome to the International Youth Arts Festival, now in its sixth year and blossoming much like a child into an independent, creative, flourishing thing sometimes with so much life and dynamism we are not sure which way it’s going to run! I am delighted to welcome you all, audiences and participants, to join us in Kingston for what I am sure is going to be the most spectacular festival yet. The magic the festival brings is very special to all of us, allowing our local community and audiences from around the country of all ages to enjoy the talents of the very best of young people’s work from around the world. Young trainee project managers have spent months preparing and programming events for the festival, a team of over 25 students from across Europe are running our press team, 2 phenomenally talented young people created this beautiful brochure and our incredible team of volunteers are the cogs that make the festival dance, working in the production office, backstage, looking after visiting companies and driving our marketing and publicity forwards.
I would like to thank the young people we work with who inspire us every single day; without listening to their ideas this festival would be a far less joyous place. I would also like to give enormous thanks to all the staff, mentors, steering group and trustees who provide support to the young people we work with and share their skills and experiences which allow these ambitious ideas to see the light of day. A huge thanks also goes out to our sponsors, partners and funders without whom Creative Youth’s work would simply not be possible. I hope you all have a wonderful festival. My last words of advice buy a festival pass - it gives you access to every single performance at the festival for an unreasonably cheap price! Come and see our opening concert, Raise the Roof on the 11th July and get a taste for what’s coming up. Mostly. Enjoy yourselves. Eek every moment out. Smile. We only get this once a year. "I just wanted to send a big HELLLOOO over to Kingston. I am fina ly back in my German everyday-life and the IYAF pictures on facebook make me want to come back instantly! I am sure you guys have a really good time and enjoy what you have created. Raise the Roof was an impressive, amazing night. We had so much fun! Thank you so much for making my time in Kingston such a great experience! I really hope I can find a way to join IYAF 2014." "The Iyaf team proved to be extremely open-minded and supportive of my reportage drawing. Not only did they let me come up with a brand new kind of volunteering, but they gave me recognition, appreciation; they welcomed me in a family I knew nothing about. This experience is very precious to me, it is one of a kind, and I feel very lucky to be part of this fantastic festival" "IYAF has completely changed my career path. It was an incredibly eye opening and really taught me those things that you never ever learn behind the school desk.. I knew I was capable of doing the work that I do but I never really had the chance to see it myself. IYAF was extremely important for my career and I can't stress enough how lucky I was to be part of this lovely team." www.iyafestival.org.uk 98
“A privilege for Kingston to have such rich talent, spectacle, imagination and smile- and thoughtprovoking art on its cobbled plate."
"The Festival passes gave me and my family two weeks of eye opening, mind altering, laughter inducing, tear making fun at next to no cost. What a thrill to be able to see a different show every night in your own town. Bliss."
"Over the past two years I feel I have grown emotionally and mentally alongside the festival my confidence when talking to people of all ages has massively increased. I have found it easier to try new activities and take different jobs across the festival and I have taken opportunities which have led me to where I am today." "I would recommend volunteering at Creative Youth to anybody of any age. The passion shared by the staff and volunteers is infectious and inspirational. I will never forget my experience at IYAF and will continue volunteering for as long as I can!"
