Wel come from Festival Director Andy Currums
Hello everyone and welcome to the eighth International Youth Arts Festival in sunny Kingston Upon Thames. You will soon discover, as you peruse this brochure (which was designed by two talented young graphic designers), IYAF 2016 is jam packed with exciting, inspiring, thrilling and hilarious shows created by talented young folk from across the world. Stretching over ten days and filling every available performance space we could get our hands on, we’ve tried to give a platform to as many performers and artists as possible. There’s music every night in venues across Kingston (and both weekends at the K-Town Live Market Stage), international photography exhibitions, dance showcases, Edinburgh bound stand-ups, circus acts along the river front, theatre blockbusters, experimental new writing and extreme sports competitions.
“... it is the young people that make IYAF what it is - a wild and colourful spectacle”
And as you leaf through this brochure, ear marking every other page and hastily swishing a pen circle around the shows you have to go and see, I only ask that you remember the many talented and generous people behind the scenes as well as in front. Trainee Project Managers and Producers have put this festival together. They have volunteered their time for the love of theatre, music and art and innumerable more have helped with the often thankless task of administrative support. Forever filled with enthusiasm, optimism and laughter, it is the young people that make IYAF what it is – a wild and colourful spectacle that flashes through Kingston in ten whirlwind days but will hopefully stay with audiences and participants for much, much longer. Finally, some insider info on how to best pick what you see so to avoid disappointment – flick though this brochure with your eyes closed and jab your finger into a random, passing listings page. Whatever show your itchy digit lands on will be a memorable winner of a show. I look forward to seeing you around the festival.
Andy
Cheers,
