t’s a whole new ‘bayanihan’ experience as members of the barangay unite for one common goal— to win the jackpot that will help their community— in ABS-CBN’s newest game show “Game ng Bayan.” Hosted by the “Idol ng Bayan,” Robin Padilla, with the “Tol ng Bayan,” Alex Gonzaga, the show involves one hundred members of the community who are given a random challenge for a chance to win an identified need of the community such as renovation of daycare centers or basketball courts, light posts, etc. Joining the hosts are “Tropa ng Bayan” composed of Eric Nicolas, MJ Lastimosa and Negi, who will guide contestants to become local heroes in their community. “Game ng Bayan” begins with six individuals from a chosen barangay competing in the “Ang Dami Mong Alam” round, where they will be asked a question with multiple answers. Elimination occurs when a contestant answers incorrectly, when a contestant repeats an answer, and when all possible answers have been exhausted. In this round, only three will remain to move on to the next round, which is “Buksan ang Plato.” In “Buksan ang Plato,” the remaining three contestants will take turns in
opening numbered plates and must get three which says “Yehey” under it. In this round, they will be joined by their family or friends to help them make the crucial decision of which plates to open. The first contestant who successfully reveals three “Yeheys” goes through to the next round. In the jackpot round, one hundred members of the community join the contestant as they work together to accomplish a task that will only be revealed before the round begins. Unity and teamwork will be the only way for the community to win their chosen jackpot prize. Winning barangays from Monday to Thursday will then compete with each other by Friday to determine the best barangay for the week. “Game ng Bayan” is an original concept by ABS-CBN. Catch all the fun and excitement of “Game ng Bayan” every 5:00pm everyday.

ON NADINE LUSTRE: 'SHE'S EVERYTHING TO ME RIGHT NOW'
On the Wings of Love ended on a high note as the show held a live viewing party for its finale at the Ynares Sports Complex last night, February 26, 2016. Fans flocked to the venue to watch performances from the On the Wings of Love supporting cast as the show began. Kapamilya singers Kyla, Erik Santos, and Daryl Ong also performed for the OTWOListas during the viewing party. After the performances, fans and the OTWOL stars watched together the final episode of the series which showed the wedding day of Clark and Leah. Everyone could not help but scream in kilig and get emotional over the wedding scene of the two OTWOL characters. Before the finale episode ended, James Reid and Nadine Lustre appeared onstage and performed for the fans which was aired live on the television. Their appearance instigated loud shrieks and cheers from fans. After their performance, the two stars kissed in front of the crowd which was one of the biggest treats for all the fans last night. Nadine and James also expressed their heartfelt gratitude There really is no stopping James Reid from being open about his feelings for his love-team-turned-girlfriend Nadine Lustre.
JAMES REID REVEALS WHEN HE FELL FOR GIRLFRIEND NADINE LUSTRE During their interview on OTWOL Achieved from Reel to Real, which aired on Sunday, James revealed that their fight that was caught on cam last November was a major turning point for him. It may be recalled that at that time the two were seen seemingly arguing over Nadine’s white dress during the premiere night of the movie “Wang Fam.” While Nadine claimed not expecting that they would fall for each other, she stressed that the aforementioned fight was a major turning point for them. “It’s weird kasi I can remember when it started though. We had a fight before that, which was during the premiere night. We had a fight for a few days. Yes we didn’t talk at all. We were sweet on cam as Clark and Leah, but off cam, as in no talking,” she said. James added that they did not speak for four days. “As in like there’s a wall. We didn’t talk at all even if we’re standing next to each other and we rehearse a line.” Describing the four days of no talking as “terrible,” James shared that the said incident has put some things into perspective. “I realized what it was like to not have her in my life. It was then at that moment that it started creeping up on me because I realized how much she meant to me. You know how they say ‘You don’t realize what you have until you lose it?’ I kind of got a taste of that. So then when we became friends again I appreciated her a lot more and I treasured her a lot more,” he stated. The two were only able to patch things up when they went to Ilocos to shoot scenes for On The Wings of Love. “Doon sa Ilocos parang never mind kinalimutan ko kung ano ‘yung nangyari. So wala na, binitawan ko na ‘yun. In Ilocos everything was fine, everything was okay,” shared Nadine. As best friends, James revealed that Nadine was a big help in
to everyone who supported the show and for making it trend on Twitter with over three million tweets with the hashtag #OTWOLTheLastFlight. “Maraming, maraming salamat po sa pagsubaybay sa love story ni Clark and Leah sabi, ko naman sa inyo roller coaster ride, maraming, maraming salamat po,” Nadine said. James added, “Thank you for making us trend.” Nadine admitted that she got emotional while watching the final episode which she explained to the crowd, “’Yung huling eksena [kasi] sa daming pinagdaanan nina Clark and Leah tapos happy ending na sila parehas.” James and Nadine, who just recently admitted that they are already a couple, were also asked by hosts Robi Domingo and Gretchen Ho about their message to each other. Both exchanged sweet messages at the live viewing party. “Siyempre hindi ko ma-imagine na wala siya,” Nadine stated. James replied, “She’s everything to me right now.” A special documentary about JaDine and OTWOL will air on ABS-CBN this Sunday, February 28, 2016, after ASAP. making him somewhat sort out his priorities. “I went through a lot of stuff last year and I feel like that grounded me and helped me realize what I really want, what I need and it turns out that she was what I needed and she was always right there,” he said. “I think I was blinded by a lot of things. It turns out what I really wanted was just someone I can be 100% myself with, who just understands me and makes my life easier,” he added. But the two were honest enough to admit that they were not each other’s “type.” However the two had a change of heart. “Now when I look at her, before to me, I wasn’t so attracted to her. But now, now that I’m in love with her, I think she’s so beautiful no matter what she does,” James said. The Pambansang Hubby reiterated that even though he never really imagined being with Nadine ever before, knowing how comfortable he was with her, according to him, “made falling in love with her so easy.” Nadine for her part also pointed out the fact that James presence in her life made a lot of her personal woes bearable. “He’s always making me laugh tapos palaging magaan ang pakiramdam ko kapag kasama ko siya,” she said. In the end, despite many criticisms, the decision to be public about their romance, James said, was something that had to be done because he does not want to continue denying how special they are for each other. “It’s hard when you have this façade that you’re just a love team and there are so many factors and element to it that were so confusing. The only way that I measure it is about how much I loved her as the days went on. I can’t say it at this point we’re courting stage, at this point we became real. It was really gradual,” he shared. Unlike James, the ever-private Nadine was initially hesitant to share about their romance to the public. “Pero after niyang sabihin ‘yun, parang ako na-realize ko ‘Oo nga no, gusto ko nga ‘yung feeling’ kasi we don’t have to hide anymore,” she ended.

However, while many were happy for him and Nadine Lustre’s next level relationship, there are those who are writing it off as a publicity stunt especially since their top-rating soap On The Wings of Love is set to end this week. James refuted such claims saying that “It’s such a relief. You have no idea how relieving it is to be able to express [my feelings for her] because for me, for the longest time, I’ve had to suppress it or hide it. Now, it’s so liberating to just be able to hold her hand

But the biggest question was how and when did the courtship happen? “For me, I guess, because I am Australian, I grew up in Sydney, the way that we court girls, it’s different there. But, of course, the first person to know was her father. I asked permission from him first a while back. I tried to keep that Filipino tradition,” he said noting that he even went up to Nadine’s house. How it all began But then something came up that the entertainment giant could not pass up. It was the idea of making film versions of trending romantic stories being uploaded to selfpublishing literature platform Wattpad. It was once piece from the site that already had been a bestseller in bookstores that caught Viva’s attention, and the rest was history. Diary Ng Panget, a story of an ugly girl who won the heart of her snobbish, rude, condescending prince charming, had become a film project that would fuse both traditional print and online fascination into one visual, motion picture piece. The team, led by Boss Vic del Rosario, had surely no one else in mind for the two leads in the cast in this experimental project: their pretty, reliable, multi-talented Nadine as Eya Rodriguez and the dashing, mestizo, and already popular PBB Teen Clash Big Winner James, who had since been a new contract artist, as Cross Sanford. Sleeper hit The film rocked at the tills, a sleeper hit earning about P130 million without a big-name supporting cast, and made the two the most ravishing love team at the time, enamoring common youngsters with their stark, obvious contrasts yet lovable and kilig-much chemistry. With the “experiment” Diary ng Panget’s success, Viva discovered their new phenomenal love team JaDine and followed up their box office hit with another Wattpad adaptation, Talk Back and You’re Dead, which also had considerable success and proved JaDine’s growing popularity, not only among their captured JaDine fandom but by mainstream rom-com addicts. It was at this time when ABS-CBN was so marveled at their cinematic appeal that it had to bring JaDine to TV, and of course taking their Wattpad formula with them. Wansapanatym Presents: My App: #Boyfie, a story of a young woman who created her dream boy using magic tablet application, became their first TV project together and heralded a new chapter in their careers. With its ratings success, the Kapamilya network began charting their paths as part of its programming and movie productions. Star Cinema partnered with Viva Films for JaDine’s next movie titled Para Sa Hopeless Romantic, which is, yes, another film version of a hit Wattpad title. Was it real? And through it all, we all witnessed JaDine as one “professional” and “productive” love team in delivering the money makers in entertainment production, and their heartwarming and enticing on-screen chemistry, which we simply can’t take our eyes off for that simple giddiness we all enjoy feeling. But, off-screen? Do we see something as real as it gets? Hardly.
And, as ABS-CBN invited the press and bloggers to a press conference of their first-ever teleserye, On the Wings of Love, in August, there was no sign of it as Nadine and James answered they would rather spend days off with relatives or do their own thing to a question about how would they want to spend their breaks from the set together? “Parati na kasi kaming magkasama,” Nadine told this writer in jest. Love grows But since the premiere of OTWOL, their affection and closeness towards each other evidently developed as they are not only seen delivering lines but make tender, amorous gestures to one another. In between takes, we saw James cheering Nadine up with gifts like a toy dog and affectionate hugs and kisses. And, in some instance, being seen quarreling over Nadine’s outfit at a premiere. While not a pretty sight, the incident shows nevertheless how serious and intense their relationship has gone. And this was totally evident, ironically, in the recently most talked-about intense “break-up” scene, wherein after it was successfully shot, James immediately went to the aid of a visibly affected Nadine and comforted her with gestures not normally seen among professional colleagues or mere friends. Truly something was in the offing, and all points led to that. Fitting concert title It all came to one celebratory gathering to mark the success of their love team and OTWOL that made it official. Yes, “JaDine In Love” last February 20 at the Big Dome, was something Nadine’s BFF Yassi Pressman described as so fitting and appropriate a concert title for the two, as it concretized all what they felt for each other throughout the concert, and ended the way it should be, with both of them saying “I love you” to each other and admitting they are already a couple. Indeed, the journey to true love begins and reaches its destiny when you least expect it. And for JaDine, we all cheer and scream it will be forever.

Although a lot would probably agree that the ultimate highlight of the entire Jadine In Love concert at the Araneta Coliseum on February 20 was the mindblowing “I love you” uttered by James Reid to his now official girlfriend Nadine Lustre, there are a lot of other portions that could probably come close. The love team’s first major concert at the big dome had them performing with their closest friends namely Yassi Pressman, Myrtle Sarrosa, Vice Ganda, and Elmo Magalona and the singers of their On the Wings of Love theme song Kyla as well as Erik Santos. Although they are no strangers to performing in concerts, James and Nadine obviously went all out for JaDine In Love as they unleashed not only “kilig” and good vibes but also their talents.
“KISS O SAGOT” GAME The fans enjoyed this segment wherein James and Nadine got to answer fan-sent and direct-to-the-point questions. There’s one that asked James, which was his favorite part of Nadine’s body. While another one asked Nadine what’s going on in her head whenever she sees James topless and whether or not her “kilig” onscreen is actually something real. (At this point, fans were still clueless that the two are already an item).

The people behind the show made sure to carry this over with a recording of Juan Miguel’s piece. They even upped their ante by pairing his heart melting words with James and Nadine’s seductive and
almost acrobatic interpretative dance to the tune of “Stay with Me” and “All of Me.”

“IKAW” MASHUP The audience almost went wild when James and Nadine mashed up two versions of “Ikaw” by Regine Velasquez and Yeng Constantino in what ended up as one of their most captivating performances during the night. MELAI CANTIVEROS AND POKWANG REVEAL THEIR ‘GREATEST CHALLENGES’ IN LOVE On Tonight with Boy Abunda, Melai Cantiveros and Pokwang revealed what kind of comedy they will be doing in this “super feel good lang na teleserye” entitled We Will Survive, where they will play the lead roles. “Yung pagpapatawa po namin dito hindi sinasadya.” We Will Survive is a story of friendship, family, and love. The two share that just like their characters they have also been through a lot in life and love. Fans and friends mourned over the sudden death Wenn V. Dermas who succumbed to cardiac arrest on February 29. He leaves behind a legacy of blockbuster movies and hit TV shows. Here’s a look back on the life and career of the blockbuster director Direk Wenn as a waiter Direk Wenn finished B.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management and became a waiter for some time. Direk Wenn as a P.A. (Production Assistant) Direk Wenn started in the industry as a production assistant before he was assigned to be a writer on Teysi ng Tahanan. Direk Wenn as a writer After being a production assistant on the TV show Tatak Pilipino, he was assigned to be a writer on Teysi ng Tahanan and eventually became an executive producer for the 1995 TV show Calvento Files. Direk Wenn as a director After picking up tips and experience in filmmaking, he eventually became a director. TV SERIES Marina (2004) Marina was an ABS-CBN fantaserye where Optimum Star Claudine Barretto portrayed Marina, a mermaid. Kampanerang Kuba (2005) Kampanerang Kuba is another ABS-CBN fantasy soap opera, which was inspired by the 1973 film Kampanerang Kuba which starred Vilma Santos and Bobot Mortiz. Anne Curtis portrayed as Imang, the hunchbacked bell-ringer. Kokey (2007) Kokey was directed by Wenn Deramas and Ruel Bayani. Direk Wenn also directed the sequel of this series entitled Kokey @ Ako which starred Toni Gonzaga and Vhong Navarro. Dyosa (2008) Dyosa had Anne Curtis playing the role of a goddess. (Anne is frequently dubbed as “Dyosa” because of this TV series.) Her co-stars were Sam Milby and Luis Manzano. Galema: Anak ni Zuma (2013) Galema: Anak ni Zuma was based on the comic book Zuma by Jim Fernandez. Andi Eigenmann portrayed Galema CastilloVillalobos. MOVIES Ang Tanging Ina (2003) Ang Tanging Ina was a comedy film which starred Ai-Ai delas Alas. The movie had sequels which were also helmed by Direk Wenn: Ang Tanging Ina niyong Lahat (2008) and Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last na ‘to!) (2010). The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin (2011) The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin starring Vice Ganda was the first Filipino film to break the P300 million mark at the box office. It was the highest grossing Filipino film in 2011 and after this success, every movie team up of Vice and direk Wenn became a blockbuster. Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy (2013) This movie had Vice playing quadruplets who have been separated for a long time. Maria Leonora Teresa (2014) Maria Leonora Teresa is a horror-suspense film that starred actors Zanjoe Marudo, Iza Calzado, and Jodi Sta. Maria. The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin (2014) The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin is the sequel to The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin. The movie earned P435 million and it became the highest-grossing films in the Philippines then. Beauty and the Bestie (2015) Beauty and the Bestie is direk Wenn’s last film to compete in the Metro Manila Film Fest. The movie starred Coco Martin, Vice Ganda and the popular love team of James Reid and Nadine Lustre. It is currently the highest grossing Filipino film of all time for domestic gross sales.

Present din sa memorial park ang ilang personalidad na malapit kay Direk Wenn gaya nina Vice Ganda, Claudine Barretto, Eugene Domingo, Malou De Guzman, mga malalapit na kaibigan at ABS-CBN executive na si Roxy Liquigan at director na si Erick Salud. Naging tahimik ang seremonyas at taimtim ang naging mga panalangin bago tuluyang inilibing sina Direk Wenn at kapatid niyang si Wawa. Nagpalipad ng mga puting lobo at paruparo na simbulo ng pag akyat sa kalangitan ng mga namayapa. Dito rin nagbigay ng kanilang mensahe ang ilan pa sa mga personalidad na nakipaglibing.
Para kay Gladys Reyes, buhay na legacy ni Direk Wenn sa showbiz ang masasayang pelikula na kanyang ginawa “Hindi mabibilang ang mga tao na pinatawa niya sa loob ng mga sinehan kapag ipinalalabas ang mga pelikula nya. Click here to watch the video A funeral mass and necrological service for director Wenn V. Deramas was held at the Dolphy Theater inside the ABS-CBN Compound on Saturday night, March 5. The funeral mass was presided by Fr. Xavier Alpasa who was also Direk Wenn’s friend from Teatro Tomasino when he was in college at the University of Sto. Tomas. The priest shared his memories with the late director, as well as the lessons he learned from him. Next was the necrological service which was entitled Paalam, Direk Wenn: Thank you for the Love and Laughter. It was hosted by Direk Wenn’s friends in the entertainment industry namely John “Sweet” Lapus, Candy Pangilinan, Eagle Riggs, Atak, Roxy Liquigan, Don Cuaresma, and Andoy Ranay. While the stage was filled with mermaid paintings and superhero statues, personal favorites of the late director, the laughter-filled program highlighted the life
of Direk Wenn as a friend, co-worker, family man, and a fun-loving person. Several family members, friends, and co-workers shared testimonies through various audio visual presentations while some came onstage to personally share the impact Direk Wenn had on their lives. Among them was his “Pakner” of 37 years, Atet who shared that he and Direk Wenn had plans to go to Europe to celebrate their 50th birthdays before the director died of cardiac arrest last February 29 at the age of 49. Mel Del Rosario recalled her working experiences with the late blockbuster director. One of the funny memories she shared was when she and Direk Wenn represented ABS-CBN in an event in New York many years ago. From the people living closely with Direk Wenn, the audience learned that the top grossing Beauty and the Bestie director loved his mother Lydia dearly and
prioritized his children, Gab and Raffy. Director Olivia Lamasan also delivered the speech of ABS-CBN’s big boss Charo Santos-Concio which contained experiences working with the late movie and teleserye director. “We lost a brilliant mind, a creative genius, a loving son, a good brother, a responsible father, a true friend,” she read. Entertaining the attendees were actor, comedian, and host Vice Ganda with comedians Kiray and Tetay. The three cracked jokes, sang songs and even danced. But before they exited the stage, they performed the song “Without You” for Direk Wenn. It will be remembered that it was Direk Wenn who directed Vice Ganda’s blockbuster movies such as Petrang Kabayo, The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin 1 and 2, Sisterakas, Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy and Beauty and the Bestie. Likewise, the program also featured performances by

Sabi ko nga the Metro Manila Film Festival will never be the same again kasi wala ng Wenn Deramas.” Vice also revealed Direk Wenn’s plans for their next project. “May mga plano kami na gawing pelikula na superhero, superhero. Gusto niya akong gawing Darna, sabi niya dapat mag-Darna ka. Laging next project niya Darna, pero hindi namin magawa kasi may magda-Darna. Kailangan mag-Darna muna ang totoong Darna bago matuloy ang plano namin.” Moreover, Vice recounted how someone at the wake approached him to give him a certificate of recognition. “May inabot siya na ano, parang certificate, parang certificate of recognition, ‘kasi hindi ko na ito maibibigay kay Direk Wenn.’ “Si Direk Wenn ay merong tinulungan na dalawang bata na may sakit sa puso, inisponsoran niya ng pagpapaayos ng puso na ngayon yung dalawang batang yun e okay na okay na. LAV DIAZ RECOUNTS HIS CONVERSATION WITH MERYL STREEP On Tonight with Boy Abunda, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis director Lav Diaz and producer Paul Soriano talked about the film that has gained acclaim and won the Alfred Bauer Prize in the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. Lav revealed he has had the script written for Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis since 1998. He said the film is his love letter to the Filipino people and in a nutshell, “Hiwagang Hapis is the Filipino sorrow. Lets go straight to the point. Bugbog tayo sa corruption, bugbog tayo sa revisionism. This is a very displaced society, napaka-dysfunctional natin. We have this beautiful history, ang ganda ng kasaysayan natin, may pinaglaban ang mga bayani natin. Beautiful heles, mga lullabies. Harapin natin, yakapin natin. We will become a good nation one day. We will find it, the Filipino soul.” Paul also revealed why he has decided to produce the film. “One of the reasons why I wanted to produce this film is I wanted to learn from Lav Diaz. What an opportunity for a young filmmaker to put himself at the side of a great storyteller and for me to pick his brain and bring it into my cinema. It’s about time the Philippines recognizes the cinema of Lav Diaz.” The film stars two of the hottest and most brilliant actors of this generation: Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz. John Lloyd once said, “parang magiging isang kasalanan kung hindi ko makakatrabaho si Lav Diaz.” Lav recalled how John Lloyd, Piolo and other actors came on board. “Humbling yung experience na they came on board kasi wala naman sa plano yun, and then two years later we found Paul and Paul said ‘let’s shoot.’ And then when we were doing the casting suddenly pumasok na si John Lloyd, Piolo, Ely
Buendia. Everybody was like coming on board. It was magic, humbling yun. Destiny. We didn't plan it. Generosity ng spirits yun e.” Paul and Lav are hopeful that with Piolo and John Lloyd topbilling the film, more people will line up to watch it. “We know their stature yung pangalan nila …. Of course people will line up. People will come. Malaking bagay na yun e, yung binigay nila talagang open heart. It's a whole hearted na pagtulong.” How are the two as actors? Lav said, “Ang galing. Everything naman sa akin instructional. They’re free.” He added, “the first thing that I do with actors, I trust them. I give them space. (With) intelligent actors you don't need to say so much.” They also had a chance to talk to one of the judges of the festival, Hollywood actress and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep. Lav said about Meryl, “She’s cool. Very generous siya. She approached us, she kissed the actors. Mabait siya.” Did Lav have a chance to talk to her? “Well she was talking to me for a long, long time. She was telling me when she saw the film, she felt very sad because she thought of the old days of making cinema. They had patience, time; ngayon daw nagmamadali na lahat. She was very, very nostalgic and sad and she loved the film. She said she will watch it again in the US.” Lav and Paul are aiming to show Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis in Philippine cinemas before the elections.

Although director Lav Diaz described his 66th Berlinale entry Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis as a “struggle” for his viewers, those who came to watch his film clearly appreciated the saga as it earned rousing applause after it was shown at the Berlin Film Festival on Friday (Berlin time). The eight-and-a-half hour film starring Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz, according to an Agence France Press report, also caused tears and cries of “bravo” from the audience afterwards. The film is among the 18 contenders for the festival’s Golden Bear top prize, which would be awarded on Saturday (Berlin time) by jury president Meryl Streep. Apart from the film critics, spectators, festival supporters, Streep—together with the seven-member panel including British actor Clive Owen—also watched the sole screening of the film (which was
also sold-out) at the 1,600-seat Berlinale Palace theatre. Diaz, along with Pascual, Cruz, and the film’s producer Paul Soriano flew to Berlin early this week to represent the movie. Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis or A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery melds together the sorrowful mystery, literature (the missing chapters of Jose Rizal’s El Filibusterismo), mythology (“tikbalangs”), and history (Oryang’s 30-day search for the lost body of Andres Bonifacio). Diaz’s first entry is the third Filipinomade film to vie for the saie Berlinale category. The first one was Ishmael Bernal’s 1993 film Himala starring Nora Aunor and Brillante Mendoza’s 2012 Captive starring Isabelle Hupert.

As one of the national ambassadors for World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, MIkee Cojuangco-Jaworski is helping spread WWF’s solutions on climate change, conservation, and environmental education. As a mom to three growing boys Robb, Raphael, and Renzo, she said she tries to include them in her advocacies as much as she can. “They try to participate. Of course they have school so I can’t bring them everywhere with me. But they were with me when we did the Kung Fu Panda special screening and of course that was also with WWF so for them mostly they see the fun parts. I don’t think really they have a complete grasp of the things I do. I tell them but it’s different to experience it,” she shared. At the launch of this year’s Earth Hour Philippines which will happen on March 19, Saturday, Mikee and new national ambassador Iza Calzado encouraged Filipinos to turn off their lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. The wife of Pasig City Congressman Robert “Dodot” Jaworski, Jr also shared some tidbits about her life away from the camera. “You know the nice thing about marriage and the nice thing also about having kids is you really grow together. Every stage of life is new and every stage of life is different and God has a way of bringing different things to your life para talagang magkasama kayo through the journey,” she shared. After almost five years of not being active in showbiz, Mikee said it wasn’t deliberate to keep such a low profile on her personal life. “Not really. I think kasama lang talaga sa personality ko. I think also because I do a lot of things. Pag naisip ko man na kumuha ng litrato hindi ko kagad na-po-post and then I move on to the next thing and then it feels like not new anymore. Ever since I was a kid I wasn’t really the type to take a lot of pictures which I regret. I wish I wasn’t really like that. So now I try but I’m not that good (laughs),” she admitted. Whenever she attends her sons school activities, Mikee said she is treated just like any other regular parent. “I think it’s more of being a mom. On those occasions the other moms and parents are there also kasi may mission kami dun di ba kaya kami nasa school ng mga anak namin? (laughs) I think everyone is more focused on what they’re doing there and what they need to be doing. When the atmosphere is a little bit more relaxed then there’s a bit more time to get to know each other also,” she said. At home, Mikee said things are peaceful. “I try to be an understanding mom but I think na may pagka-strict din ako,” she added. Now that she is in her 40s, the former commercial model turned actress shared her secret to looking youthful. She said doing sports with her family is a big factor. “Well it’s not easy I have to say. There’s a little bit of discipline, food choices. It’s all about balance. Horseback riding I don’t do it not as much but I do play basketball with my kids and Dodot so that’s fun. It doesn’t really feel like a chore. Kasi minsan yung sasabihin mo na mag-wo-work out ka ngayon or bukas parang chore siya di ba? Hindi yung masyadong ma-e-enjoy. But when I play sports with them, then that’s fun (laughs),” she said. When asked how domestic life is for her, Mikee admitted her husband is actually more useful in the kitchen than her. “I don’t really know anything about me that is very surprising or interesting (laughs). Hindi naman kasi tungkol sa akin eh na si Dodot yung nagluluto sa bahay. Siguro mas surprising pa yun,” she said. Mikee said she also manages to keep the bond strong between her and her sisters Mai Mai and China who are also busy with their own families. “Well we see each other once a week kasi every Sunday nag-di-dinner kaming buong pamilya and on special occasions siyempre magkasama kami and I have to say, malaki yung contribution ng technology to keep us together. So at least kahit malayo si Mai Mai kasama pa rin siya. So that’s very helpful,” she explained.

ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR FRANCIS XAVIER PASION DIES INSIDE HIS QC UNIT Award-winning film and ABS-CBN teleserye director Francis Xavier Pasion was found dead inside his unit in Quezon City. This was first confirmed by ABS-CBN news reporter MJ Felipe on his Twitter account. The Philippine National Police’s Scene of the Crime Operatives (PNP SOCO) is still at the director’s unit to investigate the incident further. Direk Francis is a cum laude graduate of Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Communications. In 2008, he earned the Balanghai trophy, Best Film and Best Editing for his film “Jay” in the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and also Best Feature Film at the Asian Hot Shots Berlin Film Festival for the same movie. “Jay” also won in various film festivals in Mexico, Switzerland and Spain. In 2014, his Cinemalaya entry film “Bwaya” won Best Film in the New Breed Category, Best in Cinematography and Best Original Score. He also directed the teleseryes “Dyesebel,” “My Binondo Girl,” “Princess and I” and “Nathaniel.” His last project was the hit TV series “On the Wings of Love” which starred James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

Young singer-composer Marion Aunor could not be any happier that her music is taking off as more songs from her second album titled “Marion” are getting popular these days. The most recent of which was the sultry song “How Can I” which became part of the box office hit Always Be My Maybe starring Arci Muñoz and Gerald Anderson. In addition to that, the 23-year-old singer’s song “Free Fall Into Love” was also part of the film, which came right after it was chosen as the official Kapamilya FebIbig theme song. Mounting health concerns led to Kris Aquino’s TV departure

t’s either you love her or hate her for whatever reason, but one thing is certain—she has made an indelible mark in our consciousness as a television viewer. And, with her departure from the Kapamilya network, where she held fort for 20 years, we can’t deny that despite the brickbats or criticisms she gets, Kris Aquino will be missed as she definitely made TV worth watching, provocative, and entertaining throughout those two decades.
While she considers this as a mere hiatus from the industry and would come back soon, Kris considers this as an opportunity to not only spend more time with sons Josh and Bimby, but also allow herself to focus more on her health and wellness. This became a specific concern lately for Kris, as she had been an increasing number of ailments that sidelined her recently. MOUNTING AILMENTS In December 2014, Kris said her body just “gave up” as she suffered a severe allergic reaction after mistakenly taking Bimby’s Ibupropen pill, to which she is allergic. She had complained of body pains before inadvertently ingesting the medicine, which caused swelling. In August last year, Kris was rushed to the hospital as she was taping for her morning show Kris TV after suffering from a severe vascular headache and hypertension that led to constant vomiting. As she reached Medical City, her blood pressure shot up to 200/110, bordering on a stroke. Doctors discovered in September that she had anemia, wherein she was found to have a low amount of healthy red blood cells, that could have led to a more serious heart disease. All of these are attributed to her hectic work schedule and stress in fulfilling her professional obligations. And, after her siblings had raised concerns about how her work is taking a serious toll on her health, Kris decided on the sabbatical from showbiz to give herself the chance to completely heal from her ailments. A HEALTHY MOTHER “My sons and I will travel, we’ll move to our new home, and I’ll eat healthy, sleep early, exercise regularly, and live quietly—everything to make sure Kuya Josh and Bimb have a healthy mother,” Kris vowed in an Instagram post Tuesday. “Just like all of you, I love my FAMILY. My most valuable life destiny is to be Mama to KUYA JOSH and BIMBY; and to be a loving selfless sister to ATE (Ballsy), Pinky, Noy, and Viel: a BUNSO who doesn’t give them constant worry because of my health and safety,” she further said. Kris, being the “SOLE provider” of her sons, instead will concentrate on other business interests, such as fast food franchising, which she will do “away from the stress of the limelight.” Unlike what she said about being easily “replaced and soon forgotten,” Kris is one unforgettable personality that will leave a large void in television. This opened the doors to other morning gigs, such as “Morning Girls with Kris and Korina,” “Boy and Kris,” and “Good Morning, Kris,” which all tackled personal lifestylebased concerns, including relationships, finances, and health. But everyone knew Kris as the premier, multi-award-winning entertainment female TV talk show host in “The Buzz” with Boy Abunda, which made her a by-word in showbiz and gave her an immediate mass-based following. Kris also became the country’s top game show host, calling the shots for “Game KNB,” “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal,” and “Wheel of Fortune,” which made the format encroach into primetime TV with much success.
She then co-hosted “Showbiz News Ngayon,” a current affairs-type entertainment evening newscast also with Boy before resigning in 2010, when brother Noy became Philippine president. The story Anita the Duckling Diva is one of the six books that was part of UNICEF’s Children First! Storybooks media launch held last February 19 at SM North, The Block in Quezon City. Anne said it took her five months to finish her story. “UNICEF gave me a writing mentor, sir Augie Rivera. So I met with him every Thursday at the UNICEF office. It felt like I was going to office work as well or going back to school and I had writing workshops. So Anita the Duckling Diva went through many different drafts, around five drafts I think until we came up with this one,” she shared. Anne shared that one of her lesser-known interests is that she has always been a bookworm and writer. “Mahilig talaga akong magsulat sa diary. And the way I have been writing my

diary has been very story type so mahilig talaga ako magsulat. And then nung nabanggit ko na I’d like to write a children’s book for the benefit of UNICEF they were very open to it. After five drafts we finally had Anita the duckling diva. So ang laki talaga ng pasasalamat ko kay sir Augie kasi tinutukan niya talaga ako sa writing,” she explained. The story of a shy duckling named Anita was something that Anne admitted is close to her heart. “The thing is, growing up I also was very shy. But when you finally read a book, my writing mentor for this told me that when you’re dealing with shyness you have to do research on it if you’re going to write about it. So I read up on it. And that’s what I noticed, that these are things I could relate to myself. I also had a comfort object or a security object which may be a stuffed toy or a security blanket. In a way that’s how I can relate to it and I kind of used that as an inspiration for Anita herself because that’s also another way that children would
be able to relate to. In a way there’s definitely a lot of me inside of the book, a lot of love and hoping to be inspirational to the children who will read it. I want to say that it’s okay to be shy, to find out how you can boost your confidence again. So that’s how I can relate (to it),” she said. The It’s Showtime host said she really wants to be an instrument to help kids. “What served as an inspiration for me was I actually get to interact with a lot of children. One of the few things I noticed is a lot of them battle with shyness and confidence in themselves so I chose to tackle that because it’s something that I know I am able to relate to myself. So I wanted to write a book that would be enjoyable for children to read but also at the same time be able to help them overcome their shyness. That’s why I came up with the character of Anita,” she added. Another habit Anne wants to help instill in the younger generation is to help nurture their love for reading. “I read a lot. I think it’s also a great way for a mother and child or father and child or brothers and sisters and friends to actually bond especially at bedtime. It’s such a great experience that you can’t really take away. And I think that’s something that would be great for children to be able to have those communication skills with their parents and friends and being able to talk about a book, holding it, and looking at the pictures together. I think that would be nice to influence the kids of today,” she admitted.
After turning 31 last February 17, Anne said she made a special birthday request to her fans and followers. “In a way it’s a way to celebrate. I actually made it a birthday post of mine. Instead of my fans and followers buying or giving me birthday gifts, this would be the best birthday gift ever because the P500 where you get all six children’s books it goes to UNICEF Philippines. So for me, that would be the best birthday gift ever. Instead of giving me a gift, why not support an advocacy that I truly believe in? And actually in this book of course you have the story but also there’s also children’s rights. I think that’s very important that at such a young age children already know what their rights are. So I think this is why it’s very important that parents will support and give their children a copy of all the six books that are part of the Children’s First Storybooks,” she said.
IS ANNE CURTIS READY TO SETTLE DOWN SOON? Anne Curtis admitted that she has missed doing teleseryes and now that she’s a guest on the primetime soap Ang Probinsyano, she said that she is enjoying every moment of it. “Nakakatuwa, nakaka-miss mag-teleserye, tapos nakakatuwa na first time kong makatambal si Coco Martin. It’s been such an amazing experience for me and nakakatuwa siyang katrabaho, grabe ‘yung work ethic niya,” she said. Besides being busy working on the primetime series, she is also gearing up for her new album which will be released soon. “May bago akong album. Marami ding OPM na ang mga singers talaga ang nagsulat, Christian Bautista, Jay R, Kris Lawrence, si Billy (Crawford), so nakakatuwa kasi parang the OPM industry is still very much alive.” Will she be headlining a concert after her album is released? “Tingnan natin how my album goes. I guess kasi tino-tour ko pa si Forbidden (her second album). Until now nabebenta pa rin so maraming salamat dahil saan-saan ako nakakarating.”
Now that some of her friends are engaged and are about to settle down, Anne was asked by the press if whether or not she is also ready to get married any time soon. She replied, “I think it comes in our own right time and ako kasi napaka-career driven ko and once you decide kasi na handa ka na magpakasal dapat handa ka na rin i-give up kung anong meron ka sa career mo kasi mag-iiba yan.” She added that she and her boyfriend Erwan Heussaff are presently focused on their respective careers. “Sa ngayon kasi Erwan and I are very much happy pero we’re very much career-driven so hindi naman minamadali ang mga bagay na ‘yun.” When can she see herself settling down? “In the next two to three years siguro. ‘Yan I think base sa mga nakikita ko like si Karylle, Toni (Gonzaga), ‘yung mga ganong age I think ‘yun ‘yong tama na na-maximize mo na ‘yung career mo.”

Vivian Velez started her career in show business in 1976 when she was only 16 years old.
