Underwater lighting systems increase the attraction of motor yachts and sailboats significantly. We were able to confirm this over and over again: The underwater world, when brightly lit up at night, casts its spell on those who are present. Up to now, however, you had to accept that the hull had to be perforated below the waterline in order to achieve this; an undertaking which harbors the risk of leaks and the associated costs and effort. Bongo®Nautic has the answer: BONGO®, the mobile lighting system, which is an ingenious alternative: The entire lighting unit is lowered into the water within the shortest time imaginable, taking but a few movements, either from the stern of the boat and/or from the swimming platform, and then attached with ropes. Unlike with conventionally installed systems, the light is directed not only from the stern towards the back. Rather, five wide-beam lights illuminate the bottom of the stern and the surrounding water. Five additional spotlights are directed forward and two shine down into the depths. Thus, your yacht is going to present itself on a turquoise-colored sparkling light cushion in the midst of the pitch-black night sea. The wide-beam lights generate no individually recognizable beams of light but illuminate the surroundings of the yacht in a homogeneous glow. - And the ship’s hull remains absolutely intact.

Ingredients: 2 c. milk 3/4 c. chicken broth 1 c. quick-cooking grits 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. shredded Parmesan cheese 2 T. butter 4 oz. cream cheese 1 or 2 T. chopped fresh chives (you can also use dried) 3 T. fresh parsley or 1 T. dried parsley 1 T. lemon juice 1 egg 1 lb. peeled shrimp, roughly chopped
Directions: Bring milk and chicken broth to a boil in a medium saucepan
over medium-high heat. Gradually add grits and salt to pan, stirring constantly with a whisk. Cook 5 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Remove grits from heat. Stir in Parmesan, butter, and cream cheese until melted; then stir in remaining ingredients.
Enjoy!
Spoon grits mixture into a 11x7” baking dish generously coated with cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, or until set and the top is just starting to get some golden brown areas.

Cape Lookout August Fishing Forecast by Capt. Noah Lynk

Can you believe it? August is already here and I know that some of you are ready for fall with the extremely hot weather we
have had this summer. It will surely be here sooner than you think but enjoy the month of August as it also has some really good fishing. The near shore waters from Beaufort Inlet to the Cape Lookout Shoals and out a few miles will see plenty of summer King Mackerel along with some nice Spanish Mackerel. For those looking for large end of summer Spanish Mackerel your best bet is to fish the 30-50 ft. of water between Cape Lookout and Beaufort Inlet with live bait consisting of menhaden, 5-6 inch long mullet or trolling with small Mackerel dusters and spoons. Those that venture 5-6 miles out will find some smaller peanut Dolphin coming in to feed on the schools of bait. This is also the month that the large Red Drum will be moving out of Pamlico Sound and will be feeding during the early evenings and during the night. These large drum are best caught on cut mullet or Menhaden and fished on an Owen Lupton rig. This is a special rig that must be used in order to fish for these large drum. Please see illustration below to view this rig. The end of August is going to usher in the start of the Flounder migration back out to sea and we will start to see some of the big boys that have been way up inside the creeks and rivers start to make their way back out into the sounds and inlets. This is also the month that we will start to see some nice sized Speckled Trout and Red Drum move into the marsh areas and around the bridges. They will begin feeding on live minnows and the local abundance of shrimp. Speaking of shrimp, we have had a good summer crop and the fall is really looking good with lots of small ones back in the nursery areas of North River, Newport River and Core Creek. If we do not see any bad storms this fall, we should see a bumper crop of nice Reds and Specks. The best way to catch these fall shallow water trophies is going to be either live shrimp or mud minnows fished under a popping cork. The use of scented soft plastic baits such as Deep Creek lures and Berkley Gulp both in either the shrimp pattern or twister tail are a good choice of baits. These can either be used on a popping cork or worked slowly on a jig head. Another exciting way to catch trout and drum but it takes a little more patience and expertise is the use of the hard baits. Mainly being used are the Mirro-Lures in the entire MR- series as well as the top water baits such as the Top dog, Bomber baits, Heddon Spook, Zara Spook and also the Rapala X-Rap baits which are mostly suspending baits that you will jig very slowly just twitching every now and then. Another little tick to use on the hard baits is the use of Pro-cure bait Scent which comes in a wide variety of scents such as menhaden, shrimp, mullet and inshore-saltwater. This bait scent really does increase your catch rate, just try it. So don’t fret, although August is hot, there are still nice fish to be caught. The major thing to keep in mind during the hot months of summer is to get out really early around day break and then again in the early evening until dark. Wachapreague VA – On June 23, 2012, Susan Nelson, of Whiteford, MD boated a 122 pound, 1 ounce wahoo while fishing with Capt. Keith Neal aboard the Wachapreague-based charter vessel, Teaser. The huge fish measured 80.25 inches in length with a whopping 33 girth. The Teaser was a participant in the MSSA tournament and hooked the large fish while trolling for tuna off the Lumpy Bottom on a Joe Shute Lure and ballyhoo combination. Nelson landed the fish using a custom rod with a Shimano Tiagra reel loaded with 80# Mamoi Hi-Catch Diamond line, The lure/ballyhoo combination was rigged on a 130 mono leader with a Mustad hook. The fish was positively identified by VSFT State Record Committee member Bill Hall, in accordance with VSFT State Record procedures. Hall also completed the State Record Application. According To Capt. Neal, the wahoo hit the bait as it was fished from the longrigger and made a blistering run. The fish came up to the surface four times but did not jump causing the crew to think that it was foul hooked a blue marlin. The fifth time that the fish surfaced during the 45-minute fight, the crew saw the telltale stripes and initially thought striped marlin but knew that they were not native to the Atlantic Ocean, then they realized that it was monster wahoo hooked on a monofilament leader. “We knew we had one shot at gaffing it with the mono leader,” Capt. Neal commented. “The fish came along side and the mate hit it with the gaff, but the gaff ’s rubber handle pulled off. We put a second gaff in it and pulled it on board. I knew it was big and first estimated it around 90-pounds. When I pulled out the tape measurer and it stretched the tape to 80-inches, I knew we had a much bigger fish and called my wife as soon as we got close enough to shore to get a cell signal. When she looked up the existing state record, I knew we had a shot at beating it.” Susan Nelson, Whiteford, MD

DO ITTIMERIGHT THE FIRST By Ernie Horvath You just purchased a new fishing rod for a specific type of fishing. You put a reel on the rod and went fishing but something just didn’t feel right. The rod and reel combo did not perform to your expectations. The distance and accuracy fell short of your requirements, and the sensitivity was poor or non-existent. So, what went wrong? You thought you did your homework and checked with your fishing friends to get their input. You researched different manufactures on-line, and you wore the print off the pages of your favorite mail-order catalog. So off you go to your favorite tackle store armed with all the info you thought you needed. Talking to the salesperson they agree and say, “That’s what I use” or something along that line. The facts are: most rod manufactures mark the rod specs and actions ALMOST the same. For example, a medium action rod with an extra fast tip from one manufacturer is a medium action with a fast tip from another, even though both specify, extra-fast. Also the applications don’t cover the entire lure or fish species the rod applies to. Example: Find a rod marked for speckled trout or weakfish, GOOD LUCK! Actually some of the best inshore trout rods are marketed toward the bass community. Rods marked for shaky head or drop shot series in the lighter actions are perfect for speckled trout. (Just an example)

However the biggest mistake folks make when buying a rod is they don’t bring the reel with them that they are going to use on the rod. Bring your reel filled with line, put it on the rod, take it out and cast it! See how the rod loads with the line through the guides, not deflecting the tip on the floor or ceiling in the store. That does nothing to tell you how the rod will perform. If the store won’t let you test cast the rod, find a store that will. If you’re still not satisfied, contact a reliable custom rod builder. They will spend the time with you to ensure you get the rod you need for your type of fishing and most of the time the custom rod prices are in-line with the high-end factory rods.
