Ohhhh yay! I am so excited for YOU and thrilled that you have found me. I put a little piece of my heart into every wedding and I’d love to be a part of yours. Making sure we are a good fit is the first way to ensure the best experience, so take a look at all this information and let’s set up a time to chat. I love to welcome couples for a hot cup of coffee or glass of champagne on my roof deck in Charlestown. It’s a great way for you to get to know a little more about me (like how I could eat a donut at any time of the day or my addiction to reality television).
my philosophy
I’m sure your mind is racing with all that needs to be planned. It’s all very exciting but can also be a little overwhelming. I get it! You’re planning the day you’ve been anticipating your whole life and yet you only get one shot at it—or in my case, two (it’s a long story I’d love to share with you sometime). My goal as your wedding photographer is to give you gorgeous pictures and an unbelievable photography experience. This is part of the reason why Janelle Carmela Photography only takes on a limited number of weddings each year because I want to be more than your photographer. I want you to be so comfortable with me on your wedding day that you are completely relaxed, I want to get all teary eyed when I meet the special people in your life that we’ve talked about, I want to laugh with your guests during the best man toast because I understand the jokes about you, I want to be having so much fun on your wedding day that I have a hard time leaving when the night is over. And the day after, I want to go back through and send you text messages with the moments I captured that make us both well up. I put a little piece of my heart into every wedding I shoot, and I hope that I’ll end up fitting in to a little piece of yours by the time your wedding is over.

the process The best way to ensure that couples enjoy the best photographic experience possible is making sure that we are the perfect fit for one another before officially booking. Couples should connect with their photographer, trust their photographer and be excited about the whole process with them because after all, you’ll end up spending more time with me on your wedding day than you will with your fiance. After booking, I love to get to know my clients through engagement sessions because this gives us the best opportunity to practice working together before your wedding so you are completely comfortable in front of the camera before your big day. During this time, I’ll also collect information on how best to tell your story so I’m prepared on the day of. We will work together to make a kick ass time line that will produce not only the best images possible, but also leave you enough time to relax and enjoy your day. Of course on the wedding, we’ll laugh, cry, dance, and take some killer images, which will all be delivered to you only a few weeks after the wedding is over. If couples are local, I love to have you meet at my home and show you your photos in person...along side a big box of tissues and some champagne, of course. We then can work together to create heirloom albums or drool worthy wall galleries for your home.

frequently asked questions
do you travel?
Yes! I’ve photographed weddings from Northern Maine down to Aruba and have a bucket list of places I’d love to photograph. There may be some additional fees required, but please don’t hesitate to ask! Some of my bucket list places to shoot include: Arizona, Italy, any place in the Finger Lakes (my home!), and out-of-the- box type venues: think: dude ranch, camp site, mountain side, etc. do you have backup equipment?
Of course. I carry two cameras and many lenses to each wedding. I am also fully insured which is super important for anyone in the wedding industry. how many images do you deliver?
While the exact number differs from each wedding, you can expect to receive 50-100 images per hour (sometimes more if you have lots of special details.) who are your second shooters?
I have a small core group of professional second shooters that I choose from. I try to strategically place my second shooters with couples who I think will be the best fit, but they are all amazing and you'll love them!
tell me more about engagementsessions?
IEngagement sessions are the best way to make your wedding day run more smoothly. They are like a dress rehearsal before the big show. They allow you to get some practice in front of the camera and for me to get to know you both. While they aren't mandatory, I highly recommend doing them! Engagement sessions are done M-Th and within 15 miles of Boston (inquire about other locations!) and I love when they are personal to you. I have done engagement sessions on ice skates at the Frog Pond, at Carnivals, hiking in the Fells, restaurants, book shops and so much more. Need some ideas? Let's chat! frequently asked questions continued ... when do I have to decide about albums and add ons?
You do NOT need to add anything to packages when you book besides the basics of what's included if you are unsure. I like to keep most of my add ons a la cart because not every wedding needs all the things. You can book your basic package when we sign the contract and add other things, like albums and second shooters, etc., on later. The only benefit to adding on at the time of booking is that you'll get the prices you booked at as opposed to later when you'll get the most current prices. (If you want a second shooter I also recommend you do so ASAP so I can lock in the date!)
