Message from Mayor Dean Fortin It is my great pleasure to welcome you to CITYVibe – Victoria 150 Edition, Victoria’s Guide to Festivals and Outdoor Events. Summer is a special time in BC’s Capital City – especially this year as we celebrate 150 years of incorporation and proud service to our citizens on Thursday, August 2, 2012. It is an opportunity for our community to reflect on 150 years of civic pride and to renew our shared commitment to another 150 years as a world-class Capital City. 2012 will be a banner year for festivals and concerts in Victoria – both those that we are proud to support through our annual Festival Investment Grant, and those that Victoria’s arts, cultural and community groups have developed in celebration of our 150th anniversary. With so much to do and see, it will certainly be a busy time. I encourage you to take part in anniversary celebrations, and in as many of the events happening around town as possible. It is a great way to build community spirit and show your civic pride. Just about anywhere you venture in Victoria this summer, there will be music in the air and people in the streets enjoying all that our wonderful city has to offer. Happy 150th Anniversary Victoria!
Dean Fortin, Mayor

CITYVibe Victoria 150 Edition
On August 2, 1862 the townsite of Fort Victoria was incorporated as the City of Victoria. In 2012, the City of Victoria celebrates 150 years of rich history and creates a window to its equally promising future. This year, we’ve expanded CITYVibe – Victoria’s Guide to Festivals and Outdoor Events, to include the many exciting 150th arts, cultural and community-based events that are taking place in the Capital City. On Thursday, August 2, 2012, we invite you to celebrate Victoria’s 150th anniversary at a public ceremony and an afternoon community celebration in Centennial Square. Additional City signature events include “Fort Victoria”, a fort building contest on July 29, and the “City United! Anniversary Celebration and Concert” on August 6. The festivals and celebrations showcased in the mid-section of this guide are recipients of the City of Victoria’s 2012 Festival Investment Grant. Over the past 13 years, the City has awarded $1.4 million to local non-profit arts and cultural organizations. The grant program is designed to nurture outdoor festivals and celebrations held within the Capital City, facilitate their growth and ensure their continued success.
