Managers Message A View From The Club with General Manager, Ryan Eckroat Welcome to June! Our first full month of summer and after a very rainy May, I think it is safe to say we are all looking forward to some fun in the sun this month. The new pool furniture is in and the Aquatics team is ready for everyone to come down for a swim. June also marks the introduction of our new Food & Beverage Director, Justin Pittenger. For the last 10 years, Justin has worked with Interstate Hotels and Resorts at various locations as an Executive Chef before moving up to the role of Food & Beverage Director, most recently at The Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans. Having grown up in Holton, KS, Justin and his family are excited to return back to their Kansas roots. Please stop in to meet him and welcome him at your earliest opportunity. This month we are also excited to announce the enhancement of the Stock Membership. Beginning this month, an additional benefit has been added to the Stock membership that provides those who own and operate their own business to extend access to the Club to up to two employees. These invitees will be granted dining access to the club as Business Social Designees. Stock members can utilize this option while retaining all of their prescribed rights and benefits as normal. If you or someone you know are interested in this, please reach out to our Membership Director, Jason Mullin, for further details including pricing. Lastly, as we all know, our Executive Sous Chef Don Morlan accepted an opportunity at another golf course this past month. We are certainly sad to see him go and wish him the very best in his new endeavor. While our search for a new Executive Chef is underway, this another way in which benefit of the expansive world of Troon can be felt. For the past few weeks, we have been fortunate to have the support and assistance of Chef Jacob Perez from Indian Wells Golf Resort in Palm Springs, CA. As Chef Jacob returns to his property, he will pass the baton to Chef Nic Agustin from BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach, FL. These gentlemen, and future interim Chefs as needed, will provide support and assistance to our team to ensure that our Culinary operation continues to move along smoothly. We’ve also added some new faces to our service team over the past couple of weeks, Taylor Hanus, Miranda Tabor, Taylor Sweet, Tre Ponting, and Nick Taylor. Please join me in welcoming them to SCC. Have a great month everyone and don’t forget….next month I will be keeping tradition alive by jumping into the pool at our 4th of July party! Ryan
Did you know... The most popular menu item of this month is the SCC Burger. Homemade Ice Cream was served to 156 People this month. Yummmm... Who can guess the most popular wine?? ….. Trinity Oaks, sold on average almost 16 glasses a day! We all know Bud Light is the top beer… but did you know we drank 1003 cans in 29 days!? And we can’t leave out the snack item.. We purchased 181 Candy Bars this month!
Golf Randy's Corner with Randy Syring I’m very excited to tell you about a new opportunity to order SCC logo merchandise coming in June. You will go to the SCC web site and click on the link to see the extensive selection of clothing and outerwear available to order. All items can be SCC logoed and shipped within a few days. Be sure to check out this new opportunity to get exactly the item, brand and size you are looking for, and support your club at the same time. I think you’ll be pleased with the great selection and pricing. Golf in June will kick off with Beat the Pros on the 4th. Due to no teams besting the pros in the last event, all of the money from that event will be added to this one. So plan on playing because the payout will be big. Junior golf begins on June 10th and will include more learning and instruction than ever. Rob VanDeCreek is now a certified 1st Tee instructor and will bring many of the newest learning ideas to the SCC Junior program. Our SCC Junior Golf program includes weekly clinics, rules and etiquette, and play on the course. No program in the area includes more golf instruction or time on the course. In addition to the regular junior program we will again have a “Tournament Prep” junior program designed to prepare SCC kids for high school and tournament competition. I (Randy) will be conducting the clinics each week which will include more in depth swing Upcoming Events: and short game instruction, as well as course management and mental preparation for tournament play. Any SCC Tuesday June 2,3 junior looking to step up their competitive play is eligible for the program. Junior golf schedules and sign up forms KWGA Senior are available in the Pro Shop.
Thursday June 4 Beat the Pro Friday June 5 SCGA 4-Ball Saturday June 27,28 Battle of the Sexes Tuesday June 30 Ladies Invitational
The Salina Charities Invitational will be held on June 18,19,20, followed by the new SCC event the Battle of the Sexes on June 28 & 29. This will be a Ryder Cup style format competition between the men and women over 2 days, with dinner and draw for pairings Saturday night. Sign up in the Pro Shop for what will be a new and fun event. Finally on June 30th the Ladies Invitational will wrap up the month. As always, please let us know if we can do anything to enhance your golfing enjoyment at SCC. See you on the links.

Membership The Message from Membership Director, Jason Mullin Wow, what a great first month it has been for me! You have all made me feel so welcomed. Thank you! We are off to a busy start of this season, and the rain is not helping that! The pool is open, its so nice to finally see that amazing area being used and enjoyed. Tennis courts have been busy, and as always, the course is looking great! I hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend. I was able to get home to visit my friends, family, and fiancÊ. It was very nice to be able to spend that day with them. We have a lot of ties to the military, 2 uncles (Air Force) and my younger sister (Marines). My sister is currently stationed in Cherry Point, South Carolina. She lives there with her Husband, who is also a Marine, and her Daughter, Aubree. They are also expecting their 2nd daughter, Sabreena in July. If you haven’t heard of it yet, SCC is making it even easier for you to get information on Pool updates, course closures or restrictions, along with upcoming events. We have had a great following for this, and the popularity is growing daily. We have over 50 people receiving updates via Text Message. Click Here to join! If you ever have questions, or comments please do not hesitate to call or email me @ Jmmullin@troongolf.com Jason

Maintenance
Mike’s Minute with Mike Hulteen As the golf season hits full stride, so do the playing conditions here at the Club. With the return of warm weather the course will continue to improve daily throughout the season well into November. We experienced another up and down spring with a wide range of temperature and moisture patterns suitable to cause early green up of the warm season grasses then cause cold temperature damage to the fairways and many of the spring flowers. Speaking of spring flowers, this year over 25,000 plants were produced in our greenhouse to supply both the course and grounds. We also produce many of the fresh herbs and greens served from the Club's kitchen as well. Aerification As you may remember the greens healed very quickly last month vs some years in the past. This was mainly because we targeted elimination of compaction vs thatch removal. The greens were aerified deeper and with much closer hole spacing to create better channels for root growth that promote their survival throughout the golf season. Not only will the greens benefit from this practice they will also get the benefits of the hydro-ject aerifier. This machine is used on 6-7 greens weekly without causing any surface disruption at all. It basically keeps these channels open all season by firing a high pressure (3000 psi) water jet through the turf into the greens mix below to promote oxygen exchange and root growth. Summer Preparations The month of June is when many preparations are made to promote healthy turf through the summer months. We begin by establishing different mowing heights, building fungicide programs, modifying nutrient levels in the turf and carefully regulating water intake. The combination of these programs along with close regular inspections will help provide top playing conditions season long. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the course anytime. Mike
Tennis
Inside the lines with Bob Warkentine I am really looking forward to another fun summer with Salina Country Club Tennis. We will start our Jr. Tennis program on Monday, June 1st. Times are 8-9, 910, 10-11, and 11 until noon. We will do these lessons on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. We will have Jr. Tennis for the first 4 weeks in June. We will take the last week of June off, due to the 4th of July, we will resume Jr. Tennis on Monday, July 6th. This will be 6 weeks of tennis for only $80 for the entire summer. We provide the tennis balls, instruction, water, treats at the end of each lesson, and fun. All you need to bring is your racket (although we can provide from time to time). Each player will also receive a t-shirt. Ladies tennis will have drills every Wednesday morning. We will start on Wednesday, June 3rd, starting at 8:30am. Typically these drills last a little over an hour. We will also will being Ladies Doubles Night on Wednesday, June 3rd. This will happen every Wednesday night starting at 7:00pm and we will typically go for a couple of hours. Cost for the entire summer is $50. This will include tennis balls, treats of some kind, drinks, and fun. All you have to do is show up. The 4th of July Tournament will be held on the 3rd this year - sorry if this creates a problem. The 4th is on a Saturday and I thought it might work better for families if I had the tournament on a Friday. I will also do an adult tournament sometime during that week. The dates and times will be posted soon! Please feel free to email me at bob.warkentine@kwu.edu with any questions, comments, or concerns. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on the courts this summer Bob
