Managers Message A View From The Club with General Manager, Ryan Eckroat Heading into our second month of summer, it is exciting to see SCC in full swing! Although a bit warmer than normal, we enjoyed some great weather in June and are looking forward to more of the same in July. I am also happy to share that we will be refreshing our menu again this month. Justin and Chef Nic have come up with some delicious dishes that fit perfectly for the summer. Roasted Beet Salad, Stuffed Spaghetti Squash, and Steak Fajitas are just a few of the new items that will soon be available on our menu. Our texting club is alive and growing. Over the past month we’ve had over 70 members sign up and would love to have everyone. We will send out text updates for daily specials, any closures due to weather, and reminders for Club events. If you would like to receive these updates, please contact Jason Mullin. It takes less than 60 seconds to sign up, all you have to provide is name, cell number, and cell carrier. July also brings about a number of Club events to mark on your calendar. First up is the always entertaining Glow Golf event on Saturday, July 18th. We then introduce a new event, Get the Golf Outta Here on Saturday, July 25th…check with the Golf Shop for the details of this exciting event. We then roll into the annual Parent/Junior Tournament on Sunday, July 26th just before the SCC Junior Club Championship July 27-30. Also, signs are up for the Annual Wally Beets Classic which will be July 31 – August 2. I am also excited to say that this month we are welcoming five new members to the Club! Please join me in welcoming Tim & Shelly Power, Dale & Kathy Hanson, Nick & Emily Puckett, Christopher & April Bloxsom, and Chris & Lisa Barr. For this fiscal year we have added 14 new memberships and are looking forward to adding to that total as the summer continues. Referrals are always our strongest source for leads. If you know someone that you think would be an ideal candidate for membership here, please reach out to Jason so that we can invite them in to experience the benefits of membership at SCC.

Thank you again for your continued support of the Club and here’s to a FUN-tastic July!! Ryan

What can I say about Tonya? Tonya has been the biggest help in the past couple of months at the Club, we are so blessed to have someone with her knowledge of the facility, her love for everyone here, and her dedication to her work. She has been an absolute role model to everyone Tonya Watts here and has taken on so much extra I can’t even begin to explain. Tonya welcomes every member with a smile and is a great first person to see when you walk into the club If you know anyone who, you feel has shown these qualities, please let us know.

4th of July Itinerary..

Maintenance

Mike’s Minute with Mike Hulteen Summer is here and with it comes the heat and dry conditions. During this time of the year water management is one of the most important things we do on the course. Too much or too little can severely impact the health and playability of the course. Through the later part of spring we try to establish a water usage schedule for the turf that will better help it to endure the long hot summer. We start by using deep and infrequent irritation schedules that help the plants grow a more dense and deeper root system. We also closely monitor the height of cut and nutrient levels in the plant to control the balance between the length of the grass blades and the root system. Over the years these practices and many others have helped us to maintain great putting surfaces that remain Poa annua free nearly 10 years after their establishment.

See you on the course. Mike

The Setup, with Food & Beverage Director, Justin Pittenger What a crazy month! As some of you know, my name is Justin Pittenger, I am the Food & Beverage Director. I am very excited to be here, and for the opportunity to work with all of you.

I grew up north of Holton Kansas and got into the hospitality industry shortly after graduating high school. I got my passion for food and beverage after working at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka, KS. In Topeka, I was part of the team for the Governor’s Inaugural Ball where we fed over 2000 people. I was hooked after seeing that many people sit down and eat a great meal. I did my culinary apprenticeship out of Kansas City and started my career as an Executive Chef. I traveled all over the Midwest and quite a bit on the east coast before I landed in New Orleans. I spent 5 of my 10 years as an Executive Chef there. I retired the Chef Coat to put on the Suit for F&B Director two years ago at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. I bring with me my family; wife, and 3 kids, Tristan, Alora, Kylah and we are very excited to be here in Salina back home to Kansas and close to family. Justin
