Manager Messages A View From The Club with General Manager, Ryan Eckroat May is going to be another exciting month with lots of fun events to take part in. Starting off with our annual Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 10. Chef Don and the team have created a delicious menu featuring Chicken Roulade, an omelet bar, pancakes and over 30 more items to enjoy as we celebrate the wonderful women that we’re fortunate enough to call Mom. The fun continues as we will be receiving all of our new pool furniture this month. Along with a freshly painted pool, our new furniture will provide a new and refreshed look and feel to our pool. To celebrate this project, our annual Summer Kick-Off party will be Wednesday, May 20 with a Poolside Party. We hope that you will all join us for what will surely be a fun evening featuring a DJ, photo booth, bounce house, and games. We will also be featuring a Taco and Margarita Bar in which you can choose from a wide variety of proteins and ingredients to build your perfect street taco. The pool will be open and heated for the party and while it is not required, all who would like to swim are welcome and encouraged. We also have an exciting staff announcement to celebrate this month. I am thrilled to share that Don Morlan has been promoted to the role of Executive Sous Chef and will serve as the culinary leader. Don has been a valued member of the SCC team and his drive, passion, and leadership have helped us achieve continued success in improving food quality and consistency. I have been very proud of what Don has achieved this winter and am looking forward to his continued success in his new role. Thank you all for your continued support of Salina Country Club!

Ryan

Noah started working at SCC in May 2013. Noah is an Expo, this means Noah will bring the food from kitchen to Waiter/Waitress. Noah is always smiling and has Noah great personality, be sure to stop in and congratulate him on his hard work and this incredible achievement.

Membership The Message from Membership Director, Jason Mullin Hello! I am the new Membership Director here at SCC. I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. I attended college at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa where I studied Computer Science and Technology. I transferred in from Tucson, Arizona where I was a Golf Professional at The Gallery Golf Club. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you in the short time I’ve been here, and I have generally been asked the same question. “What does a Membership Director do?” To answer, my main focus is on membership growth and retention. This basically means I will be working to bring in more members, and to make the current members (you) happy. So if there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask! Along with this task, I will be working on the marketing, social media, and communications for the club. So this new newsletter you are looking at, the social media pages, and all of the signs and calendars around the facility. Along with the update on the newsletter, we have made it very printer friendly. We understand many of you would like to print the Newsletter to have it, or to have the Calendar. When you go through it now you will notice on almost every page it gives you a chance to print the packet. You will only need to print once. Please email me at Jmmullin@troongolf.com if you have any questions. We have some very exciting things lined up for this season! Starting off with the Summer Kick-Off May 20th. To stay current with all of the events, “Like” us on Facebook and Twitter, we will be updating them often! If you’re not on either, and want to be, please come find me, we will get you all set up. If you have any questions, or know of anyone interested in becoming a member, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Mike’s Minute with Mike Hulteen Mowing of the greens, tees, collars and fairways normally starts between 5:00 & 6:00 am daily during the summer months. If mowers interfere with normal play it is usually the result of inclement weather, equipment downtime or heavy dew on the turf which prohibits a high quality of cut.

Maintenance Schedule     

Mowing – Greens 6x week Tees/Approaches 3x week Collars 3x week Green/Tee Surrounds 3x week Fairways 3x week

Rough 2.5x week Bunkers raked 5-6x week Trim around trees weekly Cups changed 5-6x week Tee locations changed 5-6x week

To Explain Syringing Daytime syringing is one of the most critical operations taking place during the golfing season. When? Usually between 11:00 and 3:00 (grasses peak wilting point) Why? To prevent wilt/heat damage. How? By cooling the plant much the same way a shower cools one in the heat of the summer. It normally takes between 6-8 minutes per green and every effort is made to work between groups to inconvenience players as little as possible. See you on the course

Mike
