The Type Factory Final Design Boards

the type factory. The concept for this brief was to produce an entire brand identity for a new museum, gallery, cafe and bookstore. The museum was completely focused on type and everything to do with it. For the brief I chose to design and code the website and propose all the print work.

I chose to do the web work over the print work as I wanted to challenge myself.

Audience. The logo was designed using the lower-case ‘t’ and ‘f’ in Helvetica Bold.

The audience was young or new designers, design or art student at university or 6th form.

I changed the kern of the characters so that the cross bars overlapped each other.

It included any typography fans of keen typographers and experienced designers.

I originally tried to just alight them, however they are very slightly diferent. to compensate for the difference I added two new anchor points and removed two so that they were exactly the same size.

As wlell as anyone with an interets in type it also had to be suitable for tourists from all over the world.

Fibonacci; When I work with layout and type I alwasy put the point size as a Fibonacci number so that the heirachy is in perfect ration.

Screen size

The screen size I used for the website was 1360 px x 768px.

Promotion. The promotional material for the type factory was designed using quotes about type said by famous people. The quotes l wereaid these quotes out simply and boldly and using different opacities words were highlighted within the quote, creating other phrases that were positive towards type. A poster was also produced that had a cheeky and witty tak line on

it. ‘Whats’s your type?’ suggests a flirtation with type.

Each poster also contained the logo, the name and all the relevant and important details for anyone interested in visiting.

Cafe & restaurant.

This a selection of the proposed products for the cafe and restaurant. All of the objects will be predominantly used in the cafe as they are more casual, where as the menu above has been designed fo the Apex rooftop restaurant. Although it is part of the type factory, Apex is a sophisticated and classy restaurant and bar.

Shop.

This a selection of the proposed products to be used and sold in the shop. The paper bags will be used to bag peoples purchases. The tote bag and stationary will be sold in the shop and the uniform will be worn by the staff and any press members there.

Business.

This a selection of the proposed products to be used for the business side of the type factory. This is for any corporate information or letters and has not really been designed for the musem and gallery side of the business.
