Letter from the Editor

Hello, Now that it’s fall, we can all enjoy a hot cocoa and not think about midterms. CKI is your community, so be sure to enjoy everyone’s company and don’t forget to make time for friends. In this issue, there is information about our past service events such as Beads of Courage, Fall Rally, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, and the Nightfall social. In addition, there is also information about upcoming events and socials. So far, club this year has had a wonderful turnout, especially at all the meetings. I’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone better, especially all of our new members. We always have fun together and we’ve made so many new memories. As we move forward, I’m eager to experience more of these good times! With kindest regards, Jessica Beauvais Bulletin Editor 2017-2018

Letter from the President Hello everyone! It has been a truly busy month of socials and service this October! The month was filled with events and it was great seeing the people getting involved! I'm so happy to see the reactions to the events especially my personal favorite social, Nightfall. A big thanks to the people who went to Fall Rally, I hope many more of you can come to the district events in the spring! Also we finally made it to and through the crazy November weekend with four events and it went fantastic! Thank you to everyone and best to everyone as we approach the holidays and finish up the semester! Yours in service, Chantel Leon U of A CKI President 2017-2018

Nightfall Nightfall is an annual event centered around Halloween in which people dress up and scare others at the haunted house. This was our first social of the year and everyone ended up having a great time! Nightfall is fun for everyone, and it’s a great way to get acquainted with Tucson especially if you’re not from here. Being scared together is also a great way to bond with those around you, which is one of the reasons why we advocate for attending this social every year. Overall, nightfall is a great way to spend time with friends and get in the Halloween spirit!

Beads of Courage Beads of courage is a great event, similar to Ben’s Bells, in which we volunteer sorting beads, organizing things, and writing messages that go along with the beads for children in the hospital. Not only did quite a few members attend this event, but we also had the pleasure of seeing Laura Belmont, our district governor, and Cody Little, our district treasurer. Laura and Cody drove all the way from Phoenix to spend the day with us, and we really appreciated the fact that they took the time to come see us! Beads of courage was a great event and we were both able to volunteer and get to know each other better, too!

Trick or Treat for UNICEF Trick or treat for UNICEF is an important event that helps raise money for various projects. This year, the money went to supporting the WASH project, which is for water, sanitation, and hygiene in over 100 different countries. As a club, we dressed in costume and enjoyed Halloween night together. We walked around the Sam Hughes neighborhood and, collectively, we were able to raise nearly 100$ to go towards the WASH project. Overall, we had a great night while also volunteering to raise money for a global impact.

Fall Rally Every year, fall rally is held at Camp Kiwanis in New Mexico. This year, four of our members were able to attend. At fall rally, there was a ropes course, games, a campfire, a pajama party, and a murder mystery dinner. Members from all over the southwest district attended and were able to bond through activities and a service project. Fall rally is a great weekend-long event that allows you to get closer not only with your own club, but also members from other clubs, as well. You’re able to learn more about CKI and how it is connected to Kiwanis, and what Kiwanis stands for.
