Woodhouse Spa mandeville
A Woodhouse Spa location in Mandeville was always at the top of the list for owners Erin Warner, Deneb Warner, and Giselle McBee, but destiny kept bringing other opportunities too good for the partners to refuse. Their first Woodhouse Spa location would be in Slidell. Thereafter came Woodhouse Spa in Baton Rouge, followed by the Canal Street New Orleans location, and finally, Metairie.

As a locally owned spa, Erin, Deneb, and Giselle oversee details to ensure the best experience for their guests. As such, upon entering Woodhouse Spa, you are greeted by an ambiance of tranquility and refinement.
Woodhouse Spa offers far more than services. Erin emphasizes, “We are more than just an amazing massage or facial. We are an experience.” The spa’s reception area is staffed by highly trained professionals, ready to attend to your every need. Their warm smiles and attentive demeanor immediately make you feel welcomed and embraced by a world of personalized care and attention. The changing lounge is meticulously designed, featuring private lockers, plush robes, and soft slippers that envelop you in comfort. THOMPSON FAMILY
By Greta HonsbergerResidents of The Sanctuary since the fall of 2020, Jason, Gabriela, Jason II, Sebastian, Lucian, Perrin, and Giabella love their spacious Cardinal Lane home. With the gated community’s security and proximity to the Causeway, the blend of security and convenience fits this family of seven.
Jason is a professional landscaper and owns Grass Inc, which offers lawn care services to commercial and residential clients across the Northshore. Gabriela is a proud stay-at-home mother who helps Jason with his business but stays pretty busy as the devoted mom to her five children. Raising their children is a priority for Jason and Gabriela. As such, they know the significance of faith within their family and actively participate as Church of the King members.
When Gabriela and Jason chose their home, a huge factor was sufficient space to ensure comfort,
functionality, and harmony within their household. Considering the needs and dynamics of their larger family, the Thompson home had to meet specific requirements, including bedrooms for everyone, a suitable living space, and an office for Jason. With these requirements in mind, their Cardinal Lane home was the comfortable and spacious property they had searched for.
Every family has unique preferences and desires regarding living space, and the Thompsons were no exception. Although their spatial needs were met, Jason and Gabriela immediately renovated their new home to customize and tailor it to their needs, tastes, and lifestyle. Unfortunately, less than a year after they moved into their newly renovated home, Hurricane Ida hit the area leaving quite a bit of damage to the Thompson’s residence. Thus, their home had to
undergo a second round of renovations. Jason subcontracted the work for the post-Ida renovations, adding a pool and cabana. The twice-made renovations, though inconvenient, did have a bright side.
The outdoor space that came about due to the second renovations has become the family’s warm weather go-to spot. Gabriela adds, “Our favorite space is our backyard! We love our pool and spa. We have had many crawfish boils and can’t wait to watch football games on our outdoor tv.” Completing their beautiful outdoor space is the charming landscape. It is only natural that Jason takes pride in the landscaping of his yard. From almost every window in their home, the Thompsons are greeted by the enchanting sight of lush boxwoods and vibrant roses adorning the landscape. This picturesque scene
brings a sense of elegance and natural beauty to their everyday life.
The Thompson children are an involved crew. Jason II, 17, graduated from Jesuit in May and will be headed to Ole Miss in the fall. Giabella is 16 and a junior at Dominican High School. She plays soccer for Dominican and competitive soccer on the New Orleans Fire travel team. Sebastian is 14 and will begin high school as an 8th grader at Jesuit in August. Lucian, 12, and Perrin, 11, attend Lake Castle School in Madisonville and will be in 7th and 6th grade when they return to school in August. The boys enjoy fishing, football, and baseball, and all five kids enjoy playing pool on the custom table in their upstairs game room. The Thompson’s Fury family members include Yorkie sisters Melania and Ivanka, Maltipoo Sweetie, and Noel, a mini Goldendoodle, who was a Christmas surprise. The Thompson home is a dynamic household filled with love, laughter, and never-ending energy.
Whether sitting around the kitchen island or close by on the sofa in the keeping room, the Thompsons gravitate to the family kitchen. Their kitchen serves as a central gathering place, where the inviting aromas of home-cooked meals and the warmth of togetherness create a magnetic pull for every member of the family.
When the Thompsons need a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, they enjoy spending time in the picturesque coastal area of k
30A. A few days spent unwinding on the beach’s white sands are the perfect way for Gabriela, Jason, and their children to take a break and have some family time. The Thompson kids love a trip to Tennessee when the weather gets cooler. With so many outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy, there is no time for boredom. Hiking, whitewater rafting, or exploring the majestic mountain views, a trip to Tennessee is time well spent together. This family has become connoisseurs of the local casual restaurant scene, particularly the Rusty Pelican and La Caretta. Gabriela reports that they frequent these two family favorites weekly. Their favorite for Italian is Sal N Judy’s in Lacombe, but Leonardo’s is a close second. The Thompsons enjoy an evening at Desi Vegas Steakhouse for more upscale dining. Also, staying local when it comes to favorite shopping spots, the boys like Massey’s and The Backpacker, Gabriela frequents Melangè and Emma’s, and Giabella Hemline.
Whether embarking on a beach or mountain vacation, engaging in sports, or simply spending quality time at home, the Thompsons thrive on the energy and the hustle and bustle of family.

Dr. G. PET TIPS BY
VetNaturally
With summer fun comes some dangers for our pets. Here are several tips to help you and your furry bestie have a safe summer. Follow VetNaturally on FB or Instagram for reminders!
1. Provide plenty of water and shade and always place the water in the shade so it stays as cool as possible.
2. Don’t shave your pet’s hair off for the summer! Hair is a natural skin protectant. Shaving your pet’s coat will decrease their sun protection. It will also slowly destroy your pet’s arrector pili muscle. This muscle lifts the hair off the dog and allows a layer of air between the surface of the hair and the skin-serving as an insulated barrier from the sun.
3. If your dog has a double coat (huskies, labradors, golden retrievers) they will be more prone to heat stroke because their coat is thicker. Monitor these pets more carefully.
4. Try freezing some treats in a block of water. When you put the frozen block of water out, the ice will melt, and your dog can have a cool treat ( blueberries, bananas, organic dog treats). Provide regular drinking water in addition to this frozen treat.
5. If your dog or cat has a dark coat they are more heat sensitive because dark fur absorbs more heat. Monitor these pets more carefully.
6. When walking your pet, choose a cool time of day. The time we recommend at VetNaturally is right as the sun is coming out or setting. Additionally, before you and your pet hit the sidewalk, VetNaturally recommends that you place your hand on the sidewalk for 10 seconds. If this temperature is comfortable for you, it is okay for your pet and won’t harm the pads on your pet’s paws.
7. Be sure to monitor your dog’s footpads and interdigital spaces. Walking around on the street and grass has many dangers for your
pet. Sticks, broken glass, branches, twigs, and the like can often lodge in the paw. Animals can’t just pull out a splinter. They will bite at the area, limp, or worse: suffer in silence. Check the feet regularly.
8. Fleas and ticks are in full force during the summer months. Apply a veterinary approved product to protect your pet from getting bitten and from bringing the tick or flea into your home.
9. Make your Fourth of July plans now with respect to your pet. Doggie day care will fill up quickly, so booking in advance is a must. If you will be home with a firework phobic pet, make plans to help them. Acupuncture, aqua-puncture, appropriate essential oils and certain Chinese herbs can all be helpful for pets scared of foreign firework noises. If your dog has severe anxiety with fireworks, he may need veterinary recommended and approved sedation.
10. Activities for your pet like jogging and walking, as well as allowing them to sit in a poorly air-conditioned car for only a few minutes can become deadly for pets in Louisiana. Due to harsh summer temperatures, heat stroke is a serious danger to pets. Be cognizant of overheating signs: open-mouthed breathing, heavy panting, thickening or lack of saliva, red gums, and the last adaptation is a LONG curled tongue. When you begin to see these signs, your pet is getting overheated and needs attention at once. Also any breed with a short nose (bulldog, pug, French bulldog, etc) is much more sensitive to heat in general, so taxing activities in the heat are particularly dangerous for these breeds.
Print a copy of these important tips, tape them to your fridge, and have a safe summer! Much love, Dr G

Market Tips
TIPS FOR BUYING OR SELLING A HOME DURING HURRICANE SEASON
The term “hurricane season” designates the period between June 1st and November 30th when hurricanes are most likely to form. Engaging in real estate transactions during the hurricane season requires careful consideration due to the potential for substantial property damage. Whether buying or selling a home during this period, understanding what it entails and preparing is vital.
Here are a few tips to help the buying and selling process during this unpredictable season.
If you’re purchasing a home, remember that location is key.
• Properties in certain regions face a higher risk of hurricane damage. Detailed research about the property’s hurricane damage history and consultations with local real estate agents can guide your decision-making.
• Look into local building codes and construction standards for properties resistant to hurricane damage.
• Conduct a comprehensive home inspection and engage with insurance providers to understand coverage costs and options.
• Buyers should consider lender requirements and include contingencies in the purchase contract to mitigate risks. Selling a property during this period also has its challenges.
• Always disclose any past hurricane-related damage to potential buyers and highlight your property’s hurricane mitigation features.
• Ensure that landscaping is well-maintained with a thorough clean-up of any limbs or debris after the storm.
• Investing in photography can help sell the property effectively and helps provide documentation of the home’s condition before a storm.
Insurance plays a critical role during the hurricane season.
• Buyers should secure homeowners’ insurance early, considering potential restrictions or waiting periods.
• Sellers should understand the property’s insurance claim history for transparency and trust-building with potential buyers.
• The hurricane season can affect insurance policies, potentially leading to restrictions or higher premiums.
• Owning a hurricane-proof home can provide peace of mind but consider costs and benefits.
When navigating the real estate market during the hurricane season, preparedness may be challenging but essential whether you’re buying or selling a property. With careful planning, you can make well-informed decisions and be successful in the real estate market in any season.
We are always here at 1 Sanctuary Blvd to help guide you through the real estate process. Contact Christine and Amanda today at 985-273-7986 with any questions!
Ridesharing transportation has become increasingly popular. Today, a handful of rideshare options are available on the Northshore, with the opportunity to drive customers to and from New Orleans. But what happens when you are involved in an accident as a passenger in an Uber or Lyft ride?
Both Uber and Lyft provide their drivers with insurance protection. Who is determined liable when a rideshare accident occurs can vary depending on the circumstances. However, Louisiana applies pure comparative fault with the percentage of fault allocated between all parties, including the plaintiff. Generally, a passenger carries 0% liability.
Typically, Uber and Lyft drivers are considered independent contractors. Four scenarios can occur from an Uber or Lyft accident, and depending on the circumstances, different insurance considerations will come into play:
1. When drivers are not logged into the app, they are not officially working. Thus, the Uber/ Lyft driver’s personal liability insurance will come into play if an accident occurs.
2. Once a driver logs into the ridesharing app, Uber and Lyft will provide their drivers with a Limited Liability Policy to cover whatever their personal policy does not cover in an accident. This policy generally covers $100,000 in bodily injury per accident, $25,000 in property damage per accident, and $50,000 in bodily injury per individual.
3. When the driver has accepted a ride but has not picked up the passenger, Uber, and Lyft will provide Third Party Liability and Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Coverage. This means that the coverage per accident goes up to $1 million.
4. The last instance also has Uber and Lyft providing Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Coverage and Third-Party Liability Coverage with a $1 million per accident limit.
If you are involved in an Uber/Lyft accident, you must contact the police immediately. You should also seek medical attention, even if you do not feel you need immediate medical assistance. Next, make sure you collect as much evidence from the accident scene as you can. Include photographs or videos of your visible injuries, the vehicles involved in the accident, the weather conditions, any traffic signs near the accident, skid marks on the road, or any other details that can show what happened. Also, it is important to gather information from all parties involved in the accident, including any possible witnesses. Finally, following an Uber/Lyft accident, it is recommended that you contact an experienced personal injury attorney who can help you handle your claim.

Pool Living
THE Authement family Pool
The Authement’s pool was skillfully installed by Pools by Joe Crowton, who masterfully built a water haven that will be enjoyed for years to come. The Authements love their pool because it offers lots of fun, laughs, and memories when they have family over, especially cousins. Swimming in the pool with the family dog is one of the main reasons that Izzy loves her family pool, while her brothers like to have their friends over for plenty of laughter and games. An entire family favorite is cooking in their outdoor space with the pool as the background for entertainment.
the todd family Pool
With their love for hosting, the Todds delight in inviting friends for enjoyable gatherings at their pool. With Dad’s culinary talents, friends gather to savor his delicious creations while enjoying a refreshing swim. Their family pool is a hub of fun, filled with laughter and delicious food. Laura and Clark enjoy witnessing their children’s joy as they create lasting memories in the pool, making their house the ultimate destination for fun. Crystal Pools and Spa constructed the Todd’s pool, bringing their expertise and craftsmanship to create a stunning aquatic oasis for this fun-loving family.
A sanctuary neighbor’s Pool
This neighbor’s pool is one of a kind. Built by Makaira Landscape and Pools located in Baton Rouge, the 650 square foot pool features 5-centimeter rice white peacock paver coping and decking. The waterline and spa tile is a classic two by 6-inch white glass subway tile. The monochromatic pool coping and water line tile are dazzling, especially at night, under the different colors of the pool lights. A raised spa overflows in the swimming area, adding to the calming aesthetic. The forty-two-foot swim area was designed as a lap pool for this athletic family and functional entertaining space for swimming fun. On the opposite end of the pool, a 9-inch depth adds additional functionality for lounging in the submerged pool chairs. The lush gardens surrounding the pool make it seem like paradise, the exact feeling the owners were going for when they designed this pool.
Pool Living
the COLCERIU-DANDU family Pool
The Colceriu-Dandus have a marvelous setup with their pool, making it a great space for relaxation, recreation, and spending quality time with family and friends. Even their Labradoodle Saint enjoys swimming in the pool. European Custom Pools added unique touches and catered to the specific needs and preferences of the family, while Serenity Pools did the pool’s interior, which was a crucial aspect of the pool’s construction. Nola Stucco’s expertise contributed to creating a visually appealing coping that complements the overall design of the pool. This tranquil pool and space is a fantastic addition to their home.
Teens JUST FOR
St. Paul’s freshman Colton Gernon has many interests, including lacrosse, snow skiing, and surfing. Still, he finds the most joy and outlet for self-expression through his involvement in theater and his passion for playing guitar.
Colton’s interest in drama evolved from watching his sister Gabrielle, a musical theater major at Arizona State, perform in productions. Inspired by his sister, as he began his 8th-grade year, thinking acting would be fun, he was enthusiastic about auditioning for St. Paul’s upcoming show, And Then There Were None. He successfully auditioned for and was cast in the role of Fred Narracott, the local who delivers supplies to the island. His first performance at St. Paul’s was a success, but he points out, “It was very nerve-wracking the first time, but I grew to be more comfortable. It is harder to perform in front of my peers because I feel like they might judge me.” Although this may have been the case initially, for Colton, confidence and adrenaline replaced the nerves, and focus on his performance took over. In St. Paul’s spring musical Little Shop of Horrors, he showed his versatility in dual roles: a big shot TV producer and a wino on Skid Row. Little Shop of Horrors was an opportunity to demonstrate his musical talent as well. Colton’s most challenging role was yet to come in Godspell.
In SSA’s spring production of Godspell, Colton was cast in the formidable role of Jesus. This monumental part was his most challenging to date. Not only did he have to memorize many lines, but he notes, “ I had to recite massive sections of text from the Bible. It was hard to add emotion into it and keep it interesting.” Regardless, he played the role of Jesus with authenticity, conviction, resolved confidence, and a surge of adrenaline. His favorite thing about theater is working hard and seeing the fruits of his labor. He finds satisfaction in seeing the final product come together, especially, as he aptly puts it, “when you had doubts it ever would.”
Colton’s favorite and far less challenging role is La Fou, Gaston’s funny sidekick in Beauty and the Beast. In his portrayal of La Frou, spontaneity was key. His natural comedic instincts allowed him to seamlessly ad-lib the fight scenes and physical humor, making those scenes more entertaining for the audience and fun for Colton. Being involved in theater has led to many great friendships for Colton and developed his genuine love for the craft.
When asked what role he would play if given a choice, although it was difficult to choose, he picked Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. Colton sees Tevye as a complex character for whom the audience finds funny, but at the same time dislikes for his traditional ways. Maybe a difficult character to play for some, but Colton emphasizes, “It would be a fun challenge for me.”
In addition to his involvement with acting, Colton loves playing guitar and impressively navigates the realms of bass, acoustic, electric guitar, mandolin, and ukulele. Having taken guitar for five years, he is now starting to write music. He attributes his guitar skills to his role model and teacher, Tyler Nesbit. Colton maintains, “He always pushes me to do the best I can and always makes an effort to be encouraging.” Also dedicated to refining his vocal abilities, Colton has intermittently taken voice lessons for two years.
When he has downtime, Colton likes to spend time with his friends and his dogs, Queso and Scooter. Academically, he has a connection with math, making it his favorite subject. Math, he wisely says, “is very useful for getting future jobs.” He is also a quick study when it comes to learning math concepts, making it more enjoyable. The class he does not enjoy is English because he has not yet developed a love of reading.
With his unwavering dedication, diverse talents, and aptitude for math, Colton embodies the limitless possibilities that happen when one follows their passions across multiple disciplines. Some might even call him a modern-day Renaissance man.
