JCI West Indies 56th National Convention Convention is about a month away and Late Registration is in progress. Registered members are reminded to pay the registration fee. President Charlene’s Trip to Puerto Rico

Omoiyari training session

From August 14th to 17th, JCI Barbados welcomed JCI West Indies NVP Shenella Govia. Her list of activities included a welcome party, donation to the HIV/AIDS Food Bank, social at Cafe Sol and an interview on Mornin’ Barbados. She also presented an official JCI training session called Omoiyari which focused on living in harmony, having respect and mutual understanding for others. We thank NVP Shenella for visiting us and look forward to seeing her at JCI WI Convention in October!

2017 JCI International Officer Candidate JCI West Indies Immediate Past President Kevin Hinds is running for International office. He seeks to become an International Vice President at the 2016 JCI World Congress in Québec City, Canada. We are extremely proud of our IPP and wish him the best of luck!!

BYDC’s International Youth Day Activities In commemoration of International Youth Day (IYD) on August 12th, the Barbados Youth Development Council held various activities throughout that week. JCI Barbados and IPP Khaleid Holder received an award for their continued work with the youth. We salute the other awardees and BYDC for their hard work.

At this General Assembly (GA) held on the 25th August, the Plan of Action for the Bake Sale Series was presented by Chairperson Ronet Johnson and Convention Director Alison Elcock updated GA on the progress of the National Convetion. There was a special Public Speaking component which encouraged members to speak freely.

This training session was held on the 30th August, 2016. JCI West Indies Executive Vice President Abena Agard was the presenter. This session focussed on planning, writing and delivering a speech. We received great advice for the upcoming public speaking competition!

The second Project ME: Mission Empowerment workshop for 2016 was on August 27th. The topics for this workshop included “Who are You? Impact of Social Media on Personal Identity”, “You Got the Job... What Now?”, “Sustainable You - Preparing for the Future through Insurance and Savings” and “Volunteerism - An Alternative Way to Jump Start Your Career”. Commendations to Chairperson Deryka Sobers and the committee on a successful project!

On August 30th, President Charlene visited JCI Puerto Rico and was greeted by National VP Albert Tronche. The visit was an effort to strengthen the bond between fellow Caribbean islands. After discussion about the local and national organisations, she received a tour of Old San Juan and dinner in Isla Verde. The visit was proof of the JCI tenant, “The brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations.” Thank you JCI Puerto Rico for the hospitality shown to our President.

Public Speaking Competition

Whim Outreach Center visit

President Charlene and PRO Michael visited The Whim Outreach Community Center in St. Peter on August 6th. The visit allowed them to present on JCI Barbados and its projects which could help the community. We are grateful for the opportunity offered by the community and look forward to working with them.

T&T’s Independence Anniversary

We would like to wish Happy Independence to the Republic of Trinidad and Trinidad, JCI Port of Spain and JCI Tobago. Congratulation on reaching 54 years of Independence!!

Dues Training session

This social was held on 7th August, 2016 at the Farley Hill National Park. It was a great social that allowed members to relax and foster fellowship. The scenery and food made it a fabulous day. Now we’re fired up and ready to go!
