Upcoming Events Jaycees Bake Sale Series

October 2016

2016 JCI West Indies 56th National Convention JCI Barbados had the honour of hosting this year’s National Convention from the 11th15th of October. It was held at the Barbados Beach Club and there were approximately 90 registered delegates including the Barbadian delegation. The remainder of the delegation was represented by: JCI Antigua, JCI Port of Spain (Trinidad), JCI Tobago, JCI Guyana, JCI St. Vincent, JCI Grenada, JCI Hopewell (Jamaica), JCI French Guyana, JCI Guadeloupe and JCI Martinique. Our local chapter received a total of 9 awards at the closing ceremony. For the community project, the West Indian collective donated two Pride of Barbados Trees, school supplies and also revamped the new school sign at The Government Hill Nursery School. Thank you to all members who attended convention and we hope to see you in Tobago! Special thanks to Convention Director Alison Elcock, Senator Wayne Cadogan and the convention committee.

JCI Barbados Gains Two New Senators

Our two new senators

At the opening ceremony of the 2016 National Convention, Ms. Sally-Ann Marie-Crichlow and Mr. Kevin Hinds were awarded senatorship. These two individuals would have received this prestigious accolade because of their outstanding dedication to the organisation. On behalf of the JCI Barbados chapter, we would like to congratulate Senator Sally-Ann and Senator Kevin!! We look forward to the service that you both will offer to the organisation.

We are proud to announce that Immediate Past President and Legal Counsel Khaleid Holder has been elected Vice President of JCI West Indies for 2017. Congratulations to the remainder of the board: Mr. Kwesi Des Vignes President Elect, Mr. Clint Gopaulsingh - Vice President Elect and Ms. Shenella Govia - Executive Vice President Elect; we anticipate a successful and impactful year!

2016 Colouratic Barbados Fun Run/Walk

The second annual Fun Run/Walk, entitled Colouratic Barbados, was held on October 15th. This year the event coincided with the JCI West Indies 56th National Convention, which gave the delegates an opportunity to participate in this fun activity. The aim of this event was to raise funds and awareness for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Barbados and the local chapter. A special thanks to all sponsors and commendations to the Chairperson Chanté Gittens and the committee on a successful event.

October General Assembly

On October 27th, a recap of the 56th National Convention was given. It was followed by the final report of Project Mission Empowerment (ME) which was presented by VP Dionne Dear. As elections are soon upon us, each present member of the board briefly outlined their roles in an attempt to encourage members to run for a post.

Jaycees Bake Sale Series The first bake sale of the three part series was held on Saturday October 29th at Sky Mall. As seen on the left, the bake sale was a huge success. Commendations to the chairperson Ronnet Johnson and the committee on the execution of the first bake sale.

The Barbados Youth Development Council hosted an expo that was held on the 8th of October. President Charlene Corbin, VP Julica Cave and Treasurer Malika Chow represented the chapter at the Youth Expo 2016 and conducted a presentation entitled “Let’s Get Real: Value of Volunteerism”.

The United Youth Leaders of Barbados held the Youth of Excellence Awards Dinner on the 29th of October. PRO Michael Mayers represented the chapter. We commend the organization for their hard work and dedication to making a positive impact on the youth this year.

SVG Celebrates 37 years of Independence

Happy 37th anniversary of independence to St. Vincent and the Grenadines which was celebrated on the 27th of October.
