Reflecting on the Past … Embracing the Future

President’s New Year Message: Happy New Year Fellow JCI Members, Prospective Members, Senators and Friends, Today marks the beginning of a new era, the start of a new year, fresh with the dawn of a new day. As people around the world give thanks and celebrate the opportunity to witness this epic moment, I take a step back and reflect on our past year and think ahead on the future of JCI Barbados. It certainly looks bright but also quite challenging!!! th

This year will mark our 55 year of service to the Barbadian community. 55 years of providing solutions to minimize or eradicate the issues faced in our society. I will like us to take ownership of the mantra for this year, “Reflecting on the Past …Embracing the Future”, and therefore I need you to take a journey with me. We have just completed 2012, a year some predicted may be the end of the world, and now we have come to the edge of a cliff with a thick fog ahead and a vast uncertainty of which we have little control lies before us. When we peer behind us we can see our significant accomplishments such as the building of the National Stadium, our contributions to the future of Barbados with the Eden Lodge and Government Hill Nursery schools, and more recently our hosting of Stephen Covey, renowned writer and speaker who unfortunately passed last year, and 14 years of hosting Special Day. All significant achievements which have prepared us to look ahead and in spite of the challenges which lay before us, view them as opportunities to “make a mark”.

A quote by Michael Josephson, American law professor and author, says quite simply:

Vision:

"Whether we want them or not, the New Year will bring new challenges; whether we seize them or not, the New Year will bring new opportunities."

Mission:

To be the leading global network of young active citizens. To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

We need to acknowledge that the unknown will be challenging, but with our legacy behind us clear as day and JCI preparing us to face head-on any issue which lies beyond the cliff, we can rest assured that the strength of these two pillars will be our guiding light through the fog of 2013. Senators and senior members, I implore you to continue to lend us your guidance. We recognize your value and cherish your support. I will like to thank Senator Wayne for his leadership and undying love and commitment to our chapter and this organization. You are a gem and I am grateful to be receiving the baton from your hand at this juncture.

Special Day for Special Children Celebrating 15 years in 2013

Fellow members, for 2013 there are no more prophetic writings on the Mayan walls; I view that as an opportunity! An opportunity for us, JCI Barbados, to take up our tools as ACTIVE CITIZENS and carve the future for this great organisation in 2013 and beyond, by using our youthful minds to leverage the technological advancements available and create innovative solutions for our chapter, our community, our region and our world… I really look forward to this year and intend to embrace our future fully. My fellow board members have already shown that they have the capacity to take us to the next level and we intend to do all we can to ensure we build on the vision of JCI. Happy New Year!! Kevin Hinds, JCI President (2013)

Service to humanity is the BEST work of LIFE!!!
