HISTORY'S FINEST Editorial Standpoint

History. Heritage. Heroism. Tales of old takes us back to a time were mankind was in peril. Devoid of harmony, humanity struggled to open their arms to each other. Society was ensnared with the unceasing cycle of animosity, malice, and bigotry. Endless wars erupted over rudimentary matters and egoistic people ran amok in the town. Those dreary moments were halted as one man took the challenge to embody service and brotherhood. That one man deviated from the norm of mischief and words about his ideals changed the world as more young individuals were inspired to become like him. A pathfinder. An empowering force. A man of action. A JAYCEE. Passionate individuals who resonated with such ideals converged and transformed society one good deed at a time. They sowed seeds to barren lands with the hope that one day, a new generation of Jaycees would emerge and pursue the hard-won legacy: TO BRING FORTH POSITIVE CHANGE. The seeds have grown into enormous trees and among those, JCI Cebu came into the limelight. A tree in the heart of a highly urbanized city that surpasses the beauty of modern technology. Unrivaled. Unshaken. Quintessential. Most passerby’s lift their heads in admiration to the majestic shade it gives and the fruit it bears. However, there’s more than meets the eye. Its beauty lies on being deeply rooted. The roots share a story of resilience that despite the unfavorable habitat, it must remain steadfast in providing support or else, everything will fall apart. The roots bequeath wisdom, as a manner that the culture and traditions were preserved to provide guidance during uncertainties. We remind ourselves that a tree serves no purpose without its roots that hold it firmly to the ground. We honor our roots that grasped the soil and provided the support the organization needs to brave thousands of calamities.

We celebrate our 73 years of existence as an organization in recognition to the extraordinary efforts of our predecessors, who created a stronghold born out of trials and triumphs. We stand behind a glorious past- a testimony that when the rest were still a speck of dust, JCI Cebu was already a blazing star in the vast universe. We walk towards a prosperous future- in the era of new YOUNG ACTIVE CITIZENS that share a part of their lives to make JCI Cebu the standard of service and brotherhood. In this issue, we highlight each pillar of our organization in the article, ALPHA MALES. Moreover, in an interview with Nucleus, deepen your understanding with LEGACIES as we feature two of our past presidents. Lastly, in the article BROTHERHOOD, our new members share what it feels like to be a ‘brother’ in our organization. To the readers of this magazine, it is our hope to indulge you with our organization’s heritage and inspire you with the initiatives of this year’s MEDINAction Jaycees. Our role as a publication is to create a content that would elevate JCI Cebu’s caliber through proper documentation of it’s life changing impact to society and have you, our dear readers, to have a well-rounded reading experience. We are forever grateful for keeping up-to-date with our magazine and we repay the favor soon by commencing our new ventures. In the quest to unravel legacies,

I would like to start off by recognizing the men behind Nucleus. You guys have once again outdone yourselves. I am truly proud of your progress; working passionately behind the scenes to craft an amazing magazine. On that note, I'm honored to once again offer my time to share my thoughts for this year's theme about the 73rd Anniversary and the brotherhood in JCI Cebu. Most Jaycees would ask: what makes celebrating anniversaries in JCI valuable? There are 2 significant events in a president's term: first is the induction, and second is the anniversary. Induction is a must for every president but how about anniversary? How special it is that despite the pandemic, we continue to celebrate it? As a chapter, we celebrate our anniversary to reconnect with our past members, past president, and senators. In this way, we can bridge the gap between the old and new era of members. Moreover, This is also another way of giving back to our pps, past members and Senators. It is always exciting to hear the experiences and triumphs of the past straight from the source. New members also get the opportunity to understand the chapter in a deeper sense: know its history, culture, and appreciate the invisible bond that connects us which is our brotherhood. They say every chapter has its own brand of standing out and I've always wondered why JCI Cebu stands out more often. Well, to be honest I question some of the past presidents' ways on how they go about the chapter. But as I slowly get the chance to converse with them, I realized that JCI Cebu is truly a leadership organization.

Once you become the president, it is your task to lead the chapter, a chapter of different minds and attitudes. It is in this chapter you learn how to lead from the ground up. In a sense, the foundation of the chapter speaks for its 73 years of existence: exemplary and dauntless. I've lead a group of empowered and motivated members during the pandemic. I've also questioned my capabilities in leading this organization during the pandemic. I've never imagined I'd lead them to reach new heights. I've never imagined they grow to be the best of the best. To the new generation of jaycees, JCI Cebu is the best platform of learning. If you make a mistake, misdelivered or failed, we will lift you up. Remember that we're your greatest support system, guidance, and most of all: your family. To my members, please share the brotherhood we have created this year. Share it to the next generation. Share it to the world. This would be my legacy I want you all to share. It may not be much yet I've been alone, or a one- man team once which I don't want anyone to follow. So I urge everyone to grow as brothers and together we will be the best of the best. Truly, the men of JCI Cebu will always be my brothers for a lifetime.

Brotherhood for a Lifetime President's Message

Congratulatory Message I would like to wish our brothers at JCI Cebu a heartfelt congratulations on your 73rd anniversary! Your 2021 Area 4 Team also conveys our well-wishes to your past presidents, former and current Board of Directors, and members for their constant support and dedication in building your chapter as one of the foremost and formidable chapters in the Philippines. Every anniversary celebration is an opportunity to be humbled on what has been achieved, and an occasion to reflect on the how’s it took to get there. I join you in this moment of gratefulness, for JCI Cebu has truly come a long way! The collective wisdom you have achieved is a powerful resource for you to tap and share with the whole world. Continue with everything that you do best, and continue to engage your membership and your partners to take on new challenges that are all geared towards a better world. I personally know your brotherhood will see this through, and we are with you in fervent prayer for the continued success of all your activities not just this 2021, but for many, many years to come. We look forward to working with all of you in realizing our shared vision for the Visayas Area, which is the larger, and immediate family to which we belong to. Let us not cease to engage each other to realize programs that share common values, build bridges of friendship and collaboration that will create greater impact and bring our islands closer. By sharing best practices, and closely working together only in the spirit of shared prosperity, we can win together fulfilled, and finish ever year strong. Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support and well wishes. Let us proceed together with kindness, love, and genuine service to build and contribute to something greater than ourselves. Mabuhi ang JCI Cebu! Padayon kita! Sincerely, Eric Paolo Pestaño Smith 2021 Area Vice President JCI Philippines – Visayas Area

Congratulatory Message When service goes beyond our preconceived limits, when it becomes selfless, that's when you meet impact. It then creates a ripple, then you see change. This is what we, in the organization, have always envisioned: To not just serve and become catalysts of an effective servantleadership, but also to give sustainable and resonating impact to our community. In these trying times brought about by the pandemic and all other adversities faced by the organization, JCI Cebu Inc., led by its 2021 LO President Clent Medina together with its board of directors, was never hindered by what we may perceive as hindrances yet they rose above the circumstance, and delivered their commitment to serve and effect change. JCI Cebu’s 73rd celebration is a true manifestation that it has stood the test of time and has weathered storms in the past. Look how and where it is now? It is only a testament of the growth of the organization and how it has gone beyond the limitations and challenges. Limits could only exist when we think that such exist. The recent challenges have taught us that we have to innovate, to think twice and think better, to be creative in order to change what we think are hindrances and limits as opportunities of growth, improvement, and stepping stones for new milestones. I encourage everyone to continue to be selfless in their service to humanity even if it means going beyond one's comfort zone. Burn with blazing fire of service and commitment, so others won't die of cold. Congratulations JCI Cebu brothers on your 73rd Anniversary! Soar higher!

All the best, Mae Angelyn Te 2021 Regional Vice-President Central Visayas Region
