A Letter from Father David And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.(Colossians 3: 17) Dear All Saints’ family,

Vision Statement: All Saints’ strives to be a place where people come to know Jesus Christ, are transformed to His glory, and become witnesses to God’s unchangeable word.

I want to begin by thanking everyone who participated in the parish survey. Our Sr. Warden and I have read over most of the responses and the hope is to have a full re‐ port prepared by September. The survey was designed by the vestry to help us dis‐ cern where God is leading our congregation and to identify common hopes, interests, and future activities. I was disappointed that much energy was focused on what is wrong at All Saints’, not on identifying our common hopes, interests, and future. That was not the intention of the survey. I assure you that all your concerns will be taken very seriously, and we hope that we will find ways to resolve the things we can. A couple of things that stood out for me were the need for better communication be‐ tween ministry leaders and me, as well as better ways to communicate the mind and decision process of the vestry. We are planning a Ministry Heads Meeting in Septem‐ ber. My hope is all of our leadership will participate in ‘Experiencing God’ study so we are on the same page. St. Paul said that we are to be of one mind and that is to, “have the same mind as Christ Jesus”. (See Philippians Chapter 2) Another concern is to find ways to meet the pastoral needs of the congregation. We will do this by training Lay Eucharistic Ministers and pastoral visitors. Then there is the concern about finances. We read mixed comments over some of the vestry’s fi‐ nancial decisions over the years. I assure you that none of these decisions were made without fervent prayer, discernment, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. The vestry will continue to pray for God’s guidance and provision in all the financial concerns of this congregation.

The one overarching concern is the lack of unity and togetherness of our three ser‐ vices. On the positive side we offer three distinct styles of worship to meet the needs of our diverse congregation. On the negative side we sometimes treat one another as if we belong to different churches. Over and over I read that we need to provide times to worship together. We are addressing this over the rest of the summer as we move to a summer schedule of services at 8:00 and 10:00 am. The later service will blend both traditional hymns with more contemporary music as well as traditional and mod‐ ern service music. We will continue this schedule through September 12th and then evaluate where we are. I leave you with this from Paul’s letter to the Colossians, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” In His Service, Fr. David+

Stewardship Corner The last time I wrote stewardship corner I said that one reason I give is that all of what we have is God's and we are giving it back. This month I will share two more. We know that the Word of God contains many verses about giving and the rewards we receive by giving to God. There are two other reasons that I personally give, action and obligation. When I say action I am referring to the fact that giving makes things happen. Yes, it keeps the lights on and all that but also so much more. All Saints’ has an awesome group of brave and caring people going to Haiti to minister to orphans because folks gave something like $14,000. That's incredible! While the Youth for Truth was at Creation Fest a woman, who was supported by the wonderful ministry Compassion International ,gave her testimony. Her life was made immeasurably better because of peoples giving, and there are thousands more like her. When I say “action” I mean that giving, including money, time and talents, makes things happen to people. A few months ago I made the decision to stop going to the gym (maybe you noticed) . When I stopped going to the club I stopped paying the membership fee. While I was a member of the club I was obligated to pay. Of course, our situation in our church family is a bit different then this scenario, however I personally feel an obligation to give to the “club”. Thank You, Mark Bradshaw

Vacation Bible Camp 2010 2010 Vacation Bible Camp went off with great success. 80 children from the local community, assisted by 55 volunteers, attended the five day camp. They learned to praise God with “Undignified and Uninhibi‐ ted” song, dance, and play. Let us continue to be un‐ ashamed in our commit‐ ment to Christ. You may purchase a video vignette of the week for only $2.00.

Reflections on the Experiencing God Study I wanted to share my thoughts with you having just completed this 12 week class. A little autobiography first. I’m almost 80. I joined the Episcopal Church at 18 and have been here all my life. I have lived in ten states and England and moved here in 1998. I fell in love with All Saints’ my first visit. I have been in the Tuesday Bible study with Fr. David since I came.

Then, I signed up for the Experiencing God class and wow! The Blackabys have put together an outstanding study. It makes you examine your faith, your spirituality, your place in God’s domain, with neighbors, your family…deep inside… Each day takes some introspection and time with God and gives such rewards! I can only say that I wish I had the opportunity to do a study like this at least twenty years ago! I would urge anyone to take advantage of this study here at All Saints’ while and if you can. It will bring you closer to God, assurance of His love, help to each of His children, and rever‐ ence of His almighty being.

I’ve had some pretty awful times – both culturally as well as being the sole support of my family of five, caring for a seriously ill husband, etc., etc. I’m sure most of my generation has experienced these things and many of you, but I made it through with God’s grace. I was always aware of God’s Jean Watson helping hand, but never quite “sure” … you know what I mean…

James 1:2‐3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the test‐ ing of your faith devel‐ ops perseverance.”

ALSoTour

Baltimore City Hall

Tour suggestions welcome!

July 8 marked our third trip of the year – and our 15th on re‐ cord. Sixteen mem‐ bers and friends trav‐ eled to Baltimore’s War Memorial Plaza where we were treated to personal tours of the War Memorial, Zion Church, and City Hall. Lunch was at the Hollywood

Diner where Meg Ryan once appeared in “Sleepless in Seattle.” We were also sur‐ prised to learn of several major films that had been staged at the War Memorial. Another trip is in the planning stage for later this summer, plus an offer to join the Dioce‐ san Church Club excursion on September 11. Watch the Sunday bulletins for details, and plan to join us for a fun and educational out‐ reach of All Saints’ Church.

ALSoTour has scheduled a special mid‐summer tour for Thursday, August 5. Those wishing to attend should call Neal Haynie (410‐833‐4331) as soon as possible for reservations. Tour #16 is entitled TOUR D’ELEGANCE. For a fee of only $5, you will be treated to guided tours of two elegant buildings located only 20 minutes from Reisterstown. The first is The Castle at Maryvale School, a 20th century Gothic building modeled after the stately Warwick Castle in England. Following lunch (on your own) at Tark’s Grill in Greenspring Station, we will see Brooklandwood, the 1783 home of Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Brochures detailing this tour are available in Groff Hall.

Thanks to the Heavy Lifters Just by looking around the buildings and lawns and experiencing the necessary functions of the Church grounds, we know who you are and how you help . We know you’re moved to do God’s work from your heart, not for the recog‐ nition from fellow parishioners. Please know that we do recognize your work, and thank God for your kindness and generosity in keeping this lovely old church so beautiful, clean and functioning. If we started a workers list it would be long and detailed and someone would be missed. So please know that you are acknowledged, loved and so ap‐ preciated by your fellow All Sainters. May God bless you always, Anonymous
