MANAGER’S NOTES W
elcome to Motherwell Women FC, their staff, players and supporters for today’s game. I've spoken before about the "romance" of the Cup – most evident when teams from lower divisions make it through to the later stages such as Renfrew have done as they host Glasgow City in today's draw. But the romance of the cup isn't just about minnows against giants. For us, today, it's all about making it a stage further than we have ever been before, and potentially being the only SWPL2 team left in the competition. That's what this competition means to us – one chance to go head-tohead and show what you can do. A one-shot, winner-takes-all match in which no quarter is asked for or given. The cup can throw up surprises. Take the 1st round clash between Blackburn United of Division 1 and Ayr United from Division 2 West. That game went to extra time and ended 10-9 to Blackburn! I can't promise you quite that many goals today; I don't think my heart would cope! But I'm sure we can put on a show that is just as exciting.

needed more creativity. There was very little in the game, with both teams cancelling each other out for large parts. For me, this weekend is a perfect opportunity to get a reaction to last Sunday. After all, who should need motivating to reach a Scottish Cup semi final! We did well against Motherwell in the league recently and we know their strengths and weaknesses. Today we have as good an opportunity as you would want to reach our first semi final. hope you enjoy today’s game.

E. FIFE 2-3 SAINTS
The magic of the Scottish Cup frequently conjours up tantalising ties, and none more so than this Round 3 encounter between local rivals East Fife and Saints. Now playing in different leagues, the only other match between the two teams this season was a pre-season friendly at McDiarmid Park, in which home captain Jade McDonald netted Saints Women’s first ever goal. Despite the difference in standard between the football league and the premier league, Saints knew they would have to be on their mettle to overcome a fierce challenge from the SWFL1 North league leaders. 16 September 2018
The steady rain ensured a slippery surface, but Saints stayed on their feet and held their nerve to emerge 3-2 winners thanks to a Hannah Clark brace following Jade McDonald’s opener. The third round win has guaranteed a last-eight spot for the club for the third year in a row. Our opponents in the last eight will be fellow SWPL2 club Motherwell FC, who will travel to McDiarmid Park for the quarter final on 16 September.

wo second-half goals were enough to secure away side Hearts Women the win in last weekend's Scottish Building Society SWPL2 clash at McDiarmid Park. With very little to split the two sides apart from the goals, a lapse of concentration cost Saints dear for the first. They then started to chase the game and left themselves exposed, ultimately allowing Hearts to net a second in the dying minutes.

TODAY’S VISITORS Motherwell FC are enjoying a superlative season in 2018. Arriving at McDiarmid Park as the recently crowned SWPL2 Champions, Motherwell FC will be looking to take their form into the cup and book a berth in the semi-final. The club's trajectory this year could not be more different than last year's experience of the competition, where they were unfortunate to come up against SWPL1 side and eventual cup winners Hibernian in round 2.
solve, however, and it is evident that they have bounced back from that defeat.

YOUTH CUP QF SWIFTS 0-3 CELTIC
eanfield Swifts Girls U/15s travelled to Glasgow to face a strong Celtic team in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup. Having earned their final eight place with a win on penalties against Hearts, the Perth side were eager to improve on the season's previous performances against Celtic, which had resulted in two heavy defeats. However, with 4 girls unavailable and others carrying illness and injury into the game, it would be a tough test of skills and resolve against what many see as the top club side in the country.
Jeanfield went into half-time just the one goal down, and still in the game, with both Kaitlyn Doig and Maisy Hathaway having tested the keeper. However, 2 minutes into the second half, Celtic grabbed their second goal and Swifts' task became doubly difficult. Battling tenaciously, Swifts started to come back into the game and came close first through Emma Shipley, who headed over the bar from a corner and then through Eilidh Davies, whose powerful shot was well held by the keeper. The home team ultimately proved too strong, however, and with fresh legs to bring on late into the game they scored their third goal with 8 minutes to go, securing a deserved semi-final berth.
Crowding midfield and pushing forward to press the Celtic defence and keeper at every opportunity, Swifts took the game to the home side and For Swifts, Centre frustrated them for Half Millie Coffield much of the first half. (pictured left) However, the deadput in an excellent lock was broken on 25 shift, covering back minutes as Celtic broke with a number of vital down the right with pace last-ditch tackles. to get in behind the Swifts defence and go 1 on 1 with the keeper, finishing with pinpoint accuracy. 12 St. Johnstone Women FC vs Motherwell 16 September 2018

CUP MEMORIES The club first reached a Scottish Cup quarter final In 2016, playing as Jeanfield Swifts in a game remembered not for the result, but a wonderful Donna Shaw free kick.
C
up memories generally either feature big wins or narrow defeats, and even if the scoreline suggested differently, the 2016 Quarter Final against Glasgow Girls falls squarely into the latter category. Two late goals to Glasgow Girls earned them a semi-final slot, but it was Swifts' Donna Shaw who hit home the free kick goal that had everyone talking after the game. And who can forget her enthusiastic celebration, caught as ever by Stuart Cowper's lens.
