MANAGER’S NOTES W

elcome to Glasgow Girls FC, their staff, players and supporters for today’s game. We're well into the home stretch of the season now, with just four games to play including today's. There's still a lot at stake, however, with second place still achievable. Today we face a team that we know well, having been in the same division as them since 2014. Take a look at the report on page 12 for a trip down memory lane to an encounter from that year. After last weekend's quarter final cup exit to Motherwell we were all bitterly disappointed. We felt we did enough over the 90 minutes to win the game, but we just couldn't find the way to score. The photos on pages 4 and 5 show the grit and determination on the players' faces during that game. And there's also a pic that wouldn't be out of place in a mountaineering magazine. How that escaped punishment I don't understand.

Jason McCrindle Manager

Of course, Glasgow Girls are breathing down our necks and they will be looking to draw level on points with us with a win today. So we have to be on our game and continue in the same vein that we played through there in June. That 3-0 result was one of the most pleasing I have had in my time here. Here's hoping for more of the same today! I hope you enjoy today’s game.

Still, after a couple of days to reflect we know we have to move on and focus on the job in hand, which is to consolidate our current position and hopefully steal another one or two league positions before the end of the season. 23 September 2018 St. Johnstone Women FC vs Glasgow Girls

DEV NEWS A

second away trip to Tranent in two weeks was on the cards for Jeanfield Swifts Women's Development team in the SWFL2 East last weekend. Following the previous weekend's draw against Hearts Development, Swifts were eager to go one step further and record their third win of the season, this time at the expense of GOC Women's FA. When the two teams met in Perth earlier in the season, Swifts got off to a good start but heads dropped after conceding two early second-half goals and the final result was a disappointing 7-1 defeat. However, the young development side has now gained experience and having tasted success against East Fife Violets and Lothian FC, in addition to the point taken from Hearts, this fixture was one they had targeted for a win. Swifts started quickly, pushing forward at every opportunity. After a number of chances had already fallen by the wayside, Lisa Stewart popped up on 5 minutes to net from her left-wing position. While it would be another 30 minutes before the next goal, Swifts were clearly dominant and chance after chance came their way to extend their lead. 8

When it came, it was Lisa Stewart again who secured the two-goal advantage, and she was followed 3 minutes later by Rachel Wolecki, who was controlling midfield. As conditions started to worsen, Lisa rounded off her hat-trick before the end of the first half. The second 45 minutes proved a more balanced contest, although the windy conditions may also have helped even things up. Nevertheless it was Swifts again who would secure the only goal, with a superb Rachel Wolecki strike to notch up her second and Swifts' fifth.

TODAY’S VISITORS Glasgow Girls arrive at McDiarmid Park having had a mixed season. The two sides have been rivals since 2014, when they first found themselves in the same division. In that period, Glasgow Girls have much the better head-to-head record, winning 10 of the 13 encounters between the two sides. Recent league form slightly favours the home side, with both teams recently recording big wins over bottom team Central Girls FA.

a vital three points to ensure they finished the season in sixth place in the league, one place above Glasgow Girls.

Having gained promotion from the Second Division at the end of 2013, Swifts were among the newcomers to the league. Glasgow Girls had made light work of dispatching them in the teams' first meeting in June 2014, with a 5-1 home win.

The Swifts squad that day contained a number of familiar faces, including captain Jade McDonald, vice-captain Rebecca Foote, who scored one of the four home goals, Rachel Todd, Eilidh McIntyre (Knox), Emma MacLean, Chiara Grossi, Emma Flynn-Scott and Fiona Mearns. Keeper Corrie McIlravey kept a clean sheet

However when the reverse tie came round in October, the boot was on the other foot and Swifts secured
