Celebrated dental practice caters to the entire family “No referrals needed: from cleanings to cosmetic, we do it all under one roof” Dr. Gorbatov and his associates have built and expanded their practice one relationship at a time. They’ve recently expanded from just one office in Hallandale opened 10 years ago, to offices in Hollywood and Wellington as demand for their exceptional care has grown. So how do Dr. Dmitry Gorbatov and Dr. Lana Anokhina, differ from most dentists? “We understand better than anyone how stressful it can be to have dental work done,” explains Dr. Gorbatov. “We’ve heard all the ‘horror stories.’ So when my wife and I created the vision for our patient’s experience it was very easy. We just had to recall all of those stories and just do the opposite,” he says with a smile. Dr. Gorbatov acknowledges, “Patients have a choice in who to trust with their smile. And that no matter how skilled a dentist is technically, if the skill is not matched with a gentle and friendly demeanor, the patient will choose another dentist.” This philosophy, which is grounded in gratitude, has been the foundation for growth and expansion. “Patients today know how important quality dental work is and they already come to us wanting an exceptional smile,” added Dr. Anokhina. “They do not need to be ‘sold’ on additional services or pressured to have more work done than is necessary.” We provide an atmosphere where the client is repected and empowered by their experience from basic dental care to popular cosmetic procedures.” PROFESIONAL BACKGROUND Dr. Dmitry Gorbatov and Dr. Lana Anokhina have more than 21 years experience in providing patients with excellence in General Dental Care, and specialize in Cosmetic Dentistry and Implantology: Veneers, Bonding, Metal-Free Crowns, Bridges and Innovative Dental Treatments. Originally from Russia, these highly-educated doctors attended Moscow Medical University later meeting at New York University, College of Dentistry. They have extensive post-graduate education in Dental Implantology, Smile Makeovers and Full Mouth Reconstructive Dentistry.

This husband and wife team work together in a state-of-the-art environment. The positive atmosphere is a reflection of their assiduous attention to the teeth, gums, mouth and smile; a complete ideal balance of function and beauty. An office visit is like spending a few hours with family, where you will discover their friendly caring staff. Dr. Gorbatov says, “We create a positive energy and atmosphere where our patients feel comfortable and at ease. We’ll answer any question a patient has and spend time with our patients to explain any of the procedures or options. We also work with them by offering a financial plan if needed.” “I feel being a good dentist is really a combination of art and science. First, you’re a doctor and must have excellent technical skills. But a great smile is much like a great work of art. I create beautiful teeth that will serve the patient for years and be aesthetically admired,” Dr. Gorbatov said. COSMETIC DENTISTRY Studying at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute of Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Anokhina offers many cosmetic procedures with complete makeovers that require a higher level of specialization and she is a certified provider for Botox, Mesotherapy and Restylane. Working delicately with the soft tissues that surround the mouth Dr. Anokhina says, “When I look at the human face, I look for harmony. When patients have a perfect smile but thin lips or wrinkles around the mouth, this does not achieve the optimal aesthetic result. Now, we can achieve those ideal effects with our safe and effective cosmetic procedures.” When living in South Florida it’s hard not to notice the beautiful people. One of the first things a person notices is their teeth and smile. Dr. Anokhina has done cosmetic procedures for many famous celebrities and respected patients to look and feel thier best. She is also regularly requested to correct work done by plastic surgeons. In addition, they have many international clients and are well-known in Moscow.

Hollywood resident’s documentary to air on PBS

of the month

by Brett daly Editor brett@hollywoodgazette.com

Terrence

Terrence is a 5-year-old purebred Chihuahua who weighs 4 pounds. His parents are Thomas & Mariá Hiles who named their baby after the actor Terrence Howard. Terrence is sweet and lovable, but he is also protective of his home and family. Do you want your pet to be “Pet of the Month”? E-mail a hi-res photo with the following information: Name (owners/parents); Pet (breed and name); Age & Gender; and Special traits & talents to brett@hollywoodgazette.com.

Hollywood resident Steve Waxman transformed his knowledge of South Florida and interest in the prohibition era into a new documentary that will air on PBS this month. “Prohibition and the South Florida Connection” tells the story of the prominent role bootleggers and rum runners in South Florida and the Caribbean played in the transportation of illegal alcohol into the U.S. during the 1920s. “The documentary tries to give a view from all the different players in this era,” Waxman said, adding the film also showcases the role of law enforcement and the Coast Guard. “Florida, especially with its proximity to Bimini and the Bahamas, is a natural conduit for illegal activity. It’s a fascinating era.” Waxman began his career in broadcast journalism in radio in 1981 – after graduating with a bachelor’s in broadcast from Arizona State University – when he created

“WaxTrax,” a weekly album review show in Arizona. Then, in 1987, he won AP’s Electronic Journalism Award for undercover reporting, and in the early 90s, Waxman covered the first Gulf War antiwar demonstrations and riots in Berlin for AP Radio. He moved into television in 1993 and wrote and produced programming for a variety of national syndicated shows such as “Travel Log,” “Business Today,” “Inside Edition” and Fox Sports. His documentary writing and producing credits include the PBS aired programs “Great Entrepreneurs,” “Generations in the Sun” and “Israel Forgotten Heroes,” which won an Emmy in 1999. He’s also excited about his newest venture in the film industry. Waxman said that when many people think about the prohibition era, they think about individuals like Al Capone and Bugs Moran in places like New York and New Jersey. He, however, wanted to take a different approach. “Prohibition and the South Florida Connection” showcases “Bill McCoy and Cracker Johnson, who along with their savvy female

contemporaries, Gertrude Lythgoe and Marie Waite, all relied on their wits and bravado to amass sometimes fleeting fortunes that were often fraught with risks Waxman and danger. Pirates, illicit still makers, an unmotivated local police force, along with an undermanned but determined Coast Guard, all added to an intoxicating South Florida cocktail of peril, profits and corruption,” according to the show’s description. “It really tells a nice tale,” Waxman said. The documentary took him only five months to film, edit and get on television. “I want people to have a good time watching; that’s what I’m ultimately hoping to accomplish. I want people to absorb some history in a way that’s entertaining.” Waxman’s documentary premiers on Channel 17 on Friday, Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. It will also air Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m.; and Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 10 p.m.

Hollywood chefs to compete in Gridiron Grill-OFF with NFL stars

Football fans will have an opportunity to mingle and compete with 20 of the Miami Dolphins’ bestknown alumni and to sample grilled masterpieces by top chefs in Hollywood and throughout Broward County at John Offerdahl’s 2nd annual Gridiron GrillOFF, a charity event Nov. 18 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre. Offerdahl, a former All-Pro Dolphins linebacker and restaurateur more recently known on television and the Internet as the Gridiron Griller, has paired Dolphins legends with top chefs at a food, wine and tailgate festival “Where Celebrity, Competition & Charity Collide!” Tailgaters can taste a variety of signature grilled dishes, vote for their favorite recipe, enjoy wine and beer, and square off in the Gridiron TossOFF, a wildly competitive beanbag tailgate game in a stadium setting that teams up celebrity pros with “Community Joes.” Tickets cost $75 and include all food and beverages and a beanbag contest entry. Proceeds will benefit 4Kids of South Florida, a nonprofit organization that assists foster children and other kids in crisis, as well as the Miami Dolphins Foundation and the culinary arts program at Here’s Help, a substance abuse treatment provider in Miami-Dade County. This year’s starting lineup of celebrity teams includes four top chefs in Hollywood paired with retired Dolphins players. Last year’s winner, Chef David Hackett of Hollywood Prime at The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, will be paired with former safety Louis Oliver in preparing Oliver’s Duck Confit. Chef Michael Wagner of Lola’s on Harrison and former defensive back Don McNeal will serve up McNeal’s “Quail Mary.” Chef David Ray Roach of Council Oak at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will be grilling Sims’ Seasoned Swordfish with former offensive lineman Keith Sims. And Chef Mike Vogler of Latitudes at the Hollywood Beach Marriott and former linebacker A.J. Duhe will present A.J.’s “Caribbean Casino” Prawns. Casual dining and beer will be available at the festival’s Linebacker Club, featuring legendary Dolphins linebackers serving up grilled specialties: Offerdahl’s Johnny O’s Turkey Burger; Bo’s Churrasco Steak by Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill owner Kim Bokamper; and Bru’s Triple Threat Wings by Bru’s Room Sports Grill owner Bob Brudzinski.

“We do have a lot of athletes that have been in the restaurant business,” said Offerdahl, whose culinary career started in 1990 with the opening of the first of 10 Offerdahl’s Bagel Gourmet stores. His passion for grilling – which started as a child in his family’s backyard in Wisconsin and continued at tailgate parties during his footballplaying years from high school through the NFL – inspired Offerdahl to get back in the restaurant business in 2000 with a new concept in fast-casual dining. Offerdahl and his wife, Lynn, currently operate seven award-winning Offerdahl’s Café Grill restaurants in South Florida, including one in Hollywood at 3361 Hollywood Blvd. Offerdahls’ alter ego, the Gridiron Griller, was born about four years ago. “I said to myself, ‘I’m the bagel boy down here in South Florida, but I want to be the grill guy. I want to grow up,’” he said. Offerdahl’s Gridiron Griller website and TV show have featured celebrity guests such as Art Ginsburg, commonly known as Mr. Food, and retired Dolphins Coach Don Shula. The website also includes recipes for the Gridiron Grill-OFF entries and videos of the teams preparing their signature dishes. Other participating chefs and Dolphins legends are: • Coach Dave Shula and Shannon Murray, Shula’s on the Beach • No. 11 Jim “Crash” Jensen and Toby Joseph, The Indigo Restaurant • No. 13 Dan Marino and Anthony Bruno, Anthony’s Runway 84 • No. 22 Eugene “Mercury” Morris and Fred Gushue, The Grill at Calvary Chapel • No. 23 Troy Stradford and

Greg McGowan, Pelican Landing • No. 23 Pat Surtain and Sean McDonald, Ilios • No. 29 Sam Madison and Brian Cantrell, Blue Moon Fish Co. • No. 40 Dick Anderson and Jason Smith, 954 Steak • No. 57 Dwight Stephenson and Lenny Judice, 15th Street Fisheries • No. 67 Bob Kuechenberg and John Schupbach, Casablanca Cafe • No. 80 Joe Rose and Angelo Elia, Casa D’Angelo • No. 84 Mark Duper and Oliver Saucy, Darrel & Oliver’s Café Maxx • No. 89 Nat Moore and Marcos Vico, Cafe Vico The winning team will be selected by festival-goers and a panel of judges who include Ray Lampe (“Dr. BBQ”), Wayne Huizenga Jr. and longtime Dolphins team doctor Dan Kanell. Grill-OFF and Toss-OFF winners will receive a trophy, Big Green Egg grill, two-night hotel stay, restaurant certificates and bottles of wine. Diners at the participating restaurants also will be able to order and vote on entries prior to the festival. Some 650 people turned out for last year’s Gridiron Grill-OFF, which raised $25,000 for Hope South Florida, a charity that assists the homeless. Offerdahl said he’s committed to exceeding that amount this year and hopes to see attendance at the event soar to 25,000 in five years. Offerdahl, who serves as chairman of the National Christian Foundation of South Florida, cited “five things in my life that get me going: football, food, my faith, my foundation and a heck of a lot of fun.” Those involved with the Gridiron Grill-OFF are donating their time, talents and resources to a good cause. “They’re not getting paid a penny

for it,” Offerdahl said. “When people come out, it’ll be to have a great time and to know that this is the community working at its best.” The Gridiron Grill-OFF will be held from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, 1806 NE 6th St., Pompano Beach. Admission is limited to 1,500 tailgaters ages 21 and older. For tickets or more information, visit www.gridirongriller. com.

Hollywood resident serves ADL as delagate in Vienna, Austria Hollywood resident Dr. Patricia Jaegerman recently returned from the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL's) first ever young Jewish leadership mission to Austria. Dr. Jaegerman was one of 18 participants selected to participate in the delegation of young Jewish leaders who traveled through Vienna over the course of 10 days in mid-September. During the mission, Dr. Jaegerman visited Vienna and Salzburg, where she and the delegation explored Jewish history, Holocaust commemoration and remembrance, contemporary social problems, as well as experienced contemporary Austrian culture. The delegation attended high-profile meetings with some of the country's leading intellects, cultural leaders, political representatives and religious leaders in order to gain a better understanding of the country's achievements and current struggles. "Dr. Patricia Jaegerman was selected to participate in this mission for demonstrating outstanding leadership in

the Jewish community," stated Andrew Rosenkranz, ADL Florida Regional Director. "Patricia, a native of Venezuela, graduated from ADL's Glass Leadership Institute (GLI) in Boca Raton in 2010, co-chaired GLI in Aventura in 2010-2011 and was recently inducted into ADL's Florida Regional Board. Her passion for ADL's commitment to combat antiSemitism and defend civil rights for all has deepened Patricia's dedication to ADL's values and principles." Patricia, who had relatives who lived in Austria before the Holocaust, had somewhat of a personal connection to this trip. "This mission confronted me with my own stereotypes based on the role of Austria during the Holocaust,” she said. “I had many opportunities to meet different Austrian citizens that broke those assumptions."

New wellness center and spa opens in Hollywood

by David Udoff Special to the Gazette

Bringing a new mantra and vibe to the City of Hollywood, JothiVita recently held its grand opening for enthusiastic guests as they became enlightened on a path to wellness. Luz Pellegrino, owner and a graduate from the Chopra Center University, gave a tour of the facility that emphasizes the Ayurveda method. From its Sanskrit roots, meaning ‘wisdom of life,’ this holistic system of medicine is imported from India and offers a proven guide for a life of happiness, vitality, love and purpose. “We will be offering workshops on yoga and meditation with two classes scheduled every day,” Pellegrino said. “Our clients can spend the entire day if they wish or take advantage of our package retreat programs. In addition, we offer relaxing spa treatments including massage and facials and have a detox healing program to cleanse the entire body.” Fulfilling a need for this healthy lifestyle, JothiVita will provide a positive asset to the community. Taking a tour of the building, a group of women had already gathered in the meditation room. Mystical music played in the background as guests

mingled and sampled appetizing hors d’oeuvres in the peaceful surroundings. The interior space is designed with soothing colors and trompe l’oeil murals. The 60-year-old building has seven different rooms congruently reflecting each sphere of activity. “Our spa services include individual and couple massages done with the finest organic herbs and oils and some of them have private bathrooms,” Pellegrino said. “Our healing services are designed to balance one’s health. We incorporate Reiki, reflexology and Ayurveda consultations and suggest recommendations on lifestyle, diet, nutritional guidance and herbal supplements.” The meditation workshops are based

on the programs developed by Deepak Chopra, a renowned doctor, public speaker and writer on subjects such as, new age spirituality and mind-body medicine. JothiVita meditation, yoga classes and workshops are geared towards calming an individual’s emotional turbulence and achieving a spiritual awakening or reawakening. All levels are taught by a highly trained staff. “I plan to take the yoga classes and have a massage,” said Mindy Rapkin, who attended the grand opening event. “The City really needed this alternative wellbeing center, and I wish them all the success.” According to the Ayurveda, the human body is a small model of the universe. The philosophy states that everything is made up of five elements or building blocks: Earth, water, fire, air and space. These properties are influential in understanding balances and imbalances in the human body. Valerie Landis, certified yoga instructor, genuinely believes that yoga offers empowering tools for increasing the quality of life: “The JothiVita space is where a person can relax, have a positive experience and shut out the stressful reality of the world.” Individuals trying to make a concerted effort to change and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle will discover

an array of healthy services offered at the Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center. “Luz Pellegrino is a person who really has studied the holistic science and technique and knows exactly what she is doing,” said Anne Hotte, executive director, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “She became involved with the chamber and hired member contractors for their building renovation.” JothiVita Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center is located at 500 N. Federal Highway. For information, call 954-237-3500 or visit www.jothivita. com.

Hollywood CRA hires new business to clean up Downtown by Brett Daly Editor brett @hollywoodgazette.com

Nov. 1 marked the beginning of a new venture for Downtown Hollywood. The Downtown CRA will no longer rely on the City of Hollywood to provide “enhanced services” to the area and will instead use a private company to clean and maintain Downtown Hollywood’s appearance. Lisa Liotta, economic development manager for the City of Hollywood CRA, said the move came after an inundation of complaints from residents and business owners about the untidy appearance of Downtown Hollywood, and said the CRA contracted Block by Block to help address the problem. Block by Block – a company based in Louisville, KY – provides safety, cleaning and hospitality services to Improvement Districts throughout the United States in order to set the stage for prosperity and growth, according to the company’s website. It currently serves more than 45 districts in 35 cities, including the

Coconut Grove Business Improvement District in Miami. Prior to contracting Block by Block, the CRA paid the City $187,000 to provide Downtown Hollywood with enhanced services, which Liotta defined as anything that goes above and beyond baseline services (such as picking up garbage once a day and maintaining medians). She offered de-littering, removing graffiti and pressure cleaning as examples of enhanced services. Now, however, the CRA will pay Block by Block to perform these services, saving itself $34,000 in the process. “The CRA provides the enhanced services because we want to attract more people and more investments [to Downtown Hollywood],” Liotta said. “We changed what was going on because it wasn’t working. Block by Block will make sure Downtown will look fantastic. They have a wonderful reputation.” Chris Eberle, president of the Downtown Hollywood Business Association and co-owner of the Big Easy Bar & Grille, said that while he does not know what to expect from the new contract with Block by Block, he hopes it will fix what he believes to be

Downtown Hollywood’s biggest problem: dirty streets, especially in the form of cigarette butts. “We Liotta clean our own sidewalks in front of our restaurant because it is such a mess,” he said. “We want somebody to keep it clean. We don’t mind doing some of the work, but we just need to make sure there’s a system in place that works.” Liotta believes Block by Block will provide that working system. To provide the enhanced services required to maintain Downtown Hollywood’s appearance, Block by Block employs Downtown Ambassadors, or teams selected and trained to meet a city’s specific needs. These uniformed individuals will focus solely on cleaning the streets and fulfilling other small projects that need addressing, Liotta said. At least four Ambassadors will work in

Downtown Hollywood, all of whom are Hollywood residents. Liotta also said that it is her understanding that the switch to Block by Block will not force any city employees to lose their jobs. And while Liotta has high hopes for the ability of the new program to keep the streets and medians clean, she pointed out that the CRA did not contract Block by Block to address the issue of vagrants in Downtown Hollywood. The Ambassadors may ask these individuals to move elsewhere, but the Hollywood Police Department will still remain in charge of the issue. “We hired them to provide services with maintaining and cleaning,” Liotta said. “Because of their expertise and their training, I definitely think we will see an improvement, and if we don’t, then we can modify the plan. We’re trying to make Downtown Hollywood a clean and safe place, and Block by Block is part of that equation.” For more information about Block by Block, visit their website at www. blockbyblock.com.

Dr. G’s weight loss clinic opens second location on Sheridan St. by miriam cronkhite STAFF WRITER

Valery Adkins, vice president and co-owner of Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness in Plantation at Contour Day Spa, recently announced the opening of a second location in Hollywood in early November at the Sheridan Plaza. Dr. G's Weight Loss & Wellness program is customized for each individual's lifestyle and weight loss desires. After your first month on the program you will lose an average of 8-10 lbs per month. Those wanting to shed an average of 30 pounds can expect to do so in about four months. The multi-disciplinary weight loss team consists of a medical assistant, doctor and wellness coach. Based on a medical evaluation and one’s blood type, the doctor will prescribe FDA-approved medicines to suppress appetite, act as a stimulant, burn fat, increase metabolism and make one feel full faster. Herbs are used in conjunction to curb carbohydrate cravings. The doctor can prescribe stabilizers to counter adverse effects or herbal options can be substituted. The prescribed FDA-approved medication will “take away anxiety associated with eating,” Adkins said. She

(L to R) Ginelle Cardiales, Victoria Whitson, Kristina Zyla, Dr. Kira Fenton and Valery Adkins (seated)

assures this is a main component that sets Dr. G’s program apart from other diets or weight loss programs to increase the chance of long-term success. Adkins truly believes the program works after experiencing her own gratifying weight loss results. They aren’t just cutting clients loose without guidance. Checkups, progress reports, adjustments and feedback all contribute to the success of the program. The wellness coach will help develop an exercise regimen as well as a meal plan

consisting of real food three times a day; Dr. G's protein bars and shakes can also be used as meal replacements. To address the needs of those who are too busy to ensure they are eating healthy or don't know how to cook healthy, Dr. G's is working in conjunction with an organic food delivery service. “Bring Organics Back” will deliver meals to the home or office, customized for Dr. G's Weight Loss & Wellness program. Dr. G’s also offers a line of

supplements to help detoxify and shed weight. Their multivitamin is designed to help curb appetites and the team advises a solid breakfast to speed up metabolisms. On the Dr. G's plan, each person decides what works for him or her. Adjustments are easily accommodated to receive optimal results. The ultimate achievement in Dr. G's Weight Loss & Wellness program is to help each individual achieve his or her goal and help educate people regarding nutrition, exercise and healthy living. The plan consists of individualized treatment, medical evaluations, “real” food meal plans, activity and fitness, continued maintenance and support. This is not a one-pill cure all. Dr. G’s is most effective when participants commit to lifestyle changes and healthier living. However, with the medicinal assistance, the temptation to snack will not be an issue. Answers to questions and concerns, along with guidance are merely a phone call away. Dr. G’s new Hollywood office is located at 4939 Sheridan St. # 39 in the Sheridan Plaza and will open early November. For more information, call 954-674-3344.

I SELL THEM!

The Montecristo Lounge is a private art exhibition gallery adjacent to the popular downtown cigar shop Cuenca Cigars, a Hollywood hot spot for over four years. Artist John Gillan can often be found at the Montecristo Lounge on Friday nights. Gillan approached owner Ana Cuenca about displaying his art and she loved the idea. Last month’s collection was Polaroid SX-70, which is a documentation of South Florida done in Polaroids where each photograph was manipulated on the surface after being exposed. The exhibit, "Random Blends," has been on display since Oct. 28. It consists of a unique selection of paired images. Prints are available for purchase. The members lounge bustles with enthusiasts of art and cigars. Cuenca lights up the room with her constant smile as she eagerly welcomes guests into the Montecristo family, inviting them not only to upcoming promotional events but even to a birthday party at the lounge. - M.C.

The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood promotes contemporary, innovative artists and programs. The latest exhibit, “Artist Unknown/The Free World,” is entirely unique. The exhibit features hundreds of images of vernacular photography found online by artists John D. Monteith and Oliver Wasow, providing an interesting view of American culture through social media eyes. The Center provides music, drama, theater and visual arts programming for schools and other nonprofits, as well as visual and performing arts education programs. Gallery admission is $7 for adults; $4 for students, seniors and children ages 4 to 17; and free to Center members as well as children 3 and younger. Opening reception, $10 for non-members. Tours of exhibitions and group discounts are available. The building itself is an artistic structure and deemed a significant historical structure by the state of Florida. Check out their website for more details. - M.C.

Chocolada

at Seminole Paradise I found it odd that an Asian restaurant scored ‘Best Dessert’ until I went to check out the place. From an aesthetic standpoint, the entire restaurant is eye candy. TATU Restaurant at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel is an Asian restaurant full of ambience and flavor. The DJ and lighting creates a softer nightclub atmosphere where guests can engage in conversation while enjoying a chill atmosphere. Lighted circular curtains give tables a sense of intimacy. The banana macadamia spring rolls are a dessert favorite. The presentation oozes sweetness as the banana cheesecake stuffed in spring rolls PHOTO: MELISSA DONALDSON stood among macadamia brittle and a plate of caramel sauce. Their espresso complements every bite of the dessert and the portion was large enough that even after splitting it, an entire roll was reluctantly left behind. The banana macadamia spring rolls are so inviting that the table beside ours leaned over to ask about it and drool over the aesthetically pleasing dessert. They were regulars at TATU and highly recommended the fondue. Tables at TATU are beautifully decorated with fish bowls of liquor and mounds of colorful cotton candy, served complimentary with each check. - M.C. For more information about TATU, located at 5750 Seminole Way, call 954583-1499 or visit http://tatuasianrestaurant.com

Chocolada is a bakery and café that creates delicious lattes, cappuccinos, espressos and iced coffees that are made with fresh, smooth, Italian coffee. The caramel macchiato resembles a caffeinated silky dessert, creamy and frothy. The flavorful coffee pairs nicely with the wide array of cakes and torts made from natural ingredients including Belgian chocolate, pure butter, seasonal fruit and fresh cream. Their large outdoor dining area makes it easy to roll in with your bike or stroller and the service staff makes it a point to acknowledge new arrivals promptly. Breakfast items are moderately priced and delicious. The cheese, Greek, Florentine and Western omelettes, crisp bacon and fresh pastries all make the delightful coffee blends even more enjoyable. The desserts are a work of art. The “penguin” (made of vanilla sponge, mocha cream and marzipan) combines with a vanilla latte to create one amazing afternoon delight. However, be warned, it is a site to witness a 3-year-old child eat one for breakfast.

Moments later, before even leaving the table, the child experienced a hard sugar crash. This is not a place to pick up a rushed coffee for the road. It is a café with an atmosphere that is as relaxing and as the smooth as the taste of their delightful coffee combinations. - M.C.
