~Life’s Brief Glance ~

Mr. Eddie Gaines was born May 21, 1928, in Holly Springs, Mississippi to the late Houston Gaines, Sr. and Dilly Ann (Ross). He was the fourth child of seven children born to this union.

Mr. Gaines education began at Boeings School and continued at Jimmerson’s Chapel, Isaac Chapel, and Thomason Corner. In 1940, when Mr. Gaines was around the age of twelve, he heeded the words of Evangelist W. L. Porter to repent and be baptized because the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. He joined Mt. Patient C. M. E. Church in Cairo, Mississippi. In 1951, Mr. Gaines was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Jackson, North Carolina and Ft. Riley, Kansas. Mr. Gaines was the father of two biological children, Brenda and Roderick. In 1966 He married Betty Joyce Small and became the step-father of Rosita and Terry, Sr. Mr. Gaines has nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren. In 1964, Mr. Gaines joined the New Bethel M.B. Church, and there remained a dedicated, faithful, and dutiful servant until his health declined. He served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, a member of the male chorus, funeral committee, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Superintendent of Sunday School, security contact person, and he supervised as well as worked on many construction projects on the church. Mr. Gaines was called to his prepared mansion on the afternoon of May 15, 2017. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five of his siblings; Jennie, Thelma, Lacy, Walter, and Riley. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of fifty-one years, Betty J. Gaines; children; Brenda, Roderick, Terry Sr. (Jean), and Rosita; a brother Houston Gaines (Leonia); nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

No matter what the future brings Or what may lie ahead I know that you will walk with me Along the path I tread So rest my angel, be at peace And let your soul fly free One day I’ll join your glorious flight For all eternity.
