Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58

The Life On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1926, Fannie Belle Carter Thompson was born to the late MC and Hattie Lou Carter in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the second of twelve children, eight girls, and four boys.

Fannie was baptized and involved in the Church from an early age and continued her commitment to Christ throughout her ninety years. She served Pearly Gate Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Earle, Arkansas and most recently at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Sunshine Band, as an Usher, and as a representative at numerous Arkansas Congress of Christian Education sessions. She also served as coordinator of Church programs and often as mistress of ceremonies. Her commitment to serving extended beyond the Church and into her communities: Order of Eastern Star Tyronza Queen Chapter, No. 198 and the American Legion Auxiliary Well-Brown Unit No. 436, both of Earle, Arkansas; Earle Chamber of Commerce; and volunteer at Wesley Graceland Gardens, MIFA store, and Katie Sexton Community Center. Fannie graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee and Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Her profession as an elementary school teacher expanded over thirty years with first and second graders in Desoto County Mississippi and Earle Arkansas. She loved working with children and boasted about the accomplishments of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great nieces and great-nephews. Traveling was a passion that Fannie enjoyed tremendously. If there was a trip to be taken, she wanted to participate, regardless of the distance. Whether by car, bus, plane, train or ship, Fannie Thompson stayed on the move. She had a true zest for life and didn’t allow her age or illnesses to prevent her from enjoying the life that God had blessed her with. She was very open, honest and generous with her talents, possessions, and words of encouragement and support. But, she would not hesitate to speak her mind if she felt something or someone was wrong. Just as she enjoyed providing for others, she also enjoyed decorating her home, visits to casinos, experiencing different restaurants, dancing and attending all types of affairs, such as plays, musicals, and special programs. She attended every graduation of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as children and grandchildren of friends. Her home was filled with numerous photos and mementos of most of her experiences and adventures. Early Saturday morning, October 21, 2017, Fannie took her final journey and joined her parents, her husband, Odell Thompson, aunts, uncles, sisters (Ruby Lee, Minnie Kate, Mary Frances, Floy Ann, Jeannette, Elizabeth) and brothers (MC, Jr., Willie Cleveland and Jim Eddie), youngest daughter Natalie, only son Jack and great-grandson Gavin, all of whom preceded her in death. Fannie leaves to mourn her loss, her sister, Betty Carter, her daughter, Rita Teal, daughter-in-law, Rena Childress, grandchildren (Shawndra Childress Bell, Tormel Ford, Jacquelyne Childress Settles and Rashel Teal), great-grandchildren (Kirsten Bell, Searcy Bell, III, Trinide Ford and Grayson Settles), a special friend, Ora Simmons and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and numerous friends in Earle and Memphis.
