Ferrell “Wayne” Miles

, 48, a multi-platinum music producer, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to the union of Billy Wayne and Billie Gale Miles. He was exposed to music at an early age given both his parents were musically gifted. His father played the drums and his mother was a classical lyric soprano singer. After the divorce of his parents, Wayne spent much of his early childhood years with his mother, maternal grandparents, LeRoy and Selena Baker, aunts, Sara Marie and Beverly Ann and his uncle, LeRoy Baker, Jr. His Aunt Sara Marie affectionately gave him the nickname, “Waynie Baynie”! He studied music with the Berl Olswanger Music Studio in Memphis and was considered a child prodigy in percussion instruments. Wayne’s love for music motivated him to study piano and saxophone. He attended Hamilton High School. As a young adult Wayne was baptized and joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church through his mentorship with Reverend McCray and his friendship with the McCray family who accepted Wayne like family. Gospel music was a big influence in Wayne’s life since he enjoyed participating in the church services as a part of the music ministry at Macedonia where he played conga drums. Another great influence in Wayne’s life was his grandmother, Selena Baker, an entrepreneur and cosmetologist who encouraged Wayne to pursue a career as a barber to generate supplemental income. He quickly learned the skill and leveraged it as a means to generate revenue while he honed his music writing and production skills. As Rap and Hip Hop became the music genre of young urban African Americans, the time was right for his talent and creativity. Wayne’s life as an only child was changed with the birth of his brother, Christopher James Gholson (aka “Drumma Boy”) in the mid 80’s. Wayne adapted readily to the role of “Big Brother” for Chris throughout his early years. He fondly trained Drumma to use the beat machine and navigate through the urban music genre.
