When I weep, you said “who did it!? We’ll get them together.” When a problem was too hard to solve you said: “Don’t stress, we’ll solve it together.” For most of my life, I never had to go at it alone. And when you feel weak, the boy became a man, upstanding, firm, true and strong. You taught me if you want to hide anything from a black man, put it in a book so young black man read and pay attention. She would hide money in certain pages. Told me knowledge was power, money is the incentive. When I had no way, she taught me to pray. And when I strayed, she still prayed. For you, I abandoned light and went through the darkness. For you, I fought against the snakes the fakes the demons and the heartless. I gained the strength of twenty men to carry us both back to the light. For you, I would have sacrificed my life. But you teach me even now to recognize I’m a king. In this game of life, you must sometimes sacrifice your queen. But all I wanted was to keep you safe. There’s no safer place than your favorite place. If I know you like I do, as you ascend to the sky, you look down on the devil with a smile saying sucker, nice try. And you never believed in saying goodbye. And I won’t break our trend. Won’t bend break or cry... For now is not the time for tears but to sing. Your sacrifice as a queen ensured that your boy becomes a man. And now I must be a king. Your legacy will live on. I love you, mama. And as you would say “see ya!!”

I cried when you passed away, I still cry today. Although I loved you dearly, I couldn’t make you stay. Your gold heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, GOd broke my heart to prove to me He only takes the best...
