loria Jean Luellen was born October 4, 1954, to the late Edith Mae Kaiser at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN. Gloria was a strong God-fearing woman who enjoyed giving to others and spending quality time with family. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and later joined Hope Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Gloria was an extremely Loving, Joyful, Caring, Giving, and strong woman of God. She retired from MLGW in 2017, where she was a devoted worker. She prided herself on giving to others and being a beacon of light to her family and everyone she met. She was a five-time cancer survivor, and she gained the ultimate victory over it by going on to be with Jesus. In her leisure time, Gloria enjoyed singing, listening to music, reading, and listening to God’s word, savoring moments with her family and friends. Gloria transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Methodist North Hospital after a long illness. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Eddie Oran Luellen. Gloria was a devoted mother to her three children, Tanika Jones, Geston Luellen (Ashley), and Enseia Luellen. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Doris Phillips (Johnnie), two brothers, James Hayes and Thomas Hayes, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sister-in-laws, Carolyn Daniel (Dana) and Barbara Hayes and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me. Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.

Dear Mom

There are no appropriate words to accurately exemplify our feelings during this time. She was a sweet soul indeed. The memories of our mother will forever be embedded in our soul. The wisdom, laughter and genuine concern our mother exhibited was cherished by all. God blessed us with a fabulous mother and she is an enormous part of who we are today. Our mother fought a great fight and is now present with the Lord. God has requested her home and may we all find acceptance in God’s plan.

Gloria is the anglicized form of the Latin feminine given name gloriae (Latin pronunciation: [‘gloːria]), meaning immortal glory; glory, fame, renown, praise, and honor. It is no doubt in each of our minds that Gloria was all those words combined. As her name states, she will have immortal glory for she has done the work during her life to praise and honor GOD and his people. From serving in her church to being a pillar of our family she had a profound effect on each of our lives. She had a smile that would make the sun jealous and a spirit that made you feel safe, supported, seen, validated and encouraged. In short, she was a living shero.

Grandmother We had a wonderful grandmother, One who never really grow old; Her smile was made of sunshine, And her heart was solid gold; Her eyes were as bright as shining stars, And in her cheeks fair roses you see. We had a wonderful grandmother, And that’s the way it will always be. But take heed, because She’s still keeping an eye on all of us, So let’s make sure She will like what she sees.

Thinking of You Sister Although I’m sad without you And wish that you were here, Within my heart your lovely smile Still shines bright and clear. I treasure all those memories Of growing up with you, The secrets we would always share The childish things we’d do. And as the years passed quickly by We grew closer still, I miss you, dearest Sister, And you know I always will.

Hello Sis

Didn’t we have some good times together. The long hours conversing on the phone and still having more to say to each other the next day. You didn’t leave me because you are still a part of me. You are right here in my heart. My confidant. My very best friend. When I see a bird chirping on a nearby branch I will know it is you singing to me. When a butterfly brushes gently by me so care freely I will know it is you assuring me you are free from pain. No matter where I am Your spirit will be beside me For I know that no matter what You will always be with me. Thank you for the memories that will last forever. Love you Always your Sister D

loria will be remembered as a very loving and caring person and will always be remembered. She was like a sister to me rather than sister in law. From Carolyn

“Footprints” One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: “LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.” The LORD replied: “My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
