~The Family

When God was making husbands as far as I can see, He made a special soulmate especially for me. He made a perfect, compassionate and kind gentleman, with more love and affection than you could ever wish to find. He gave my darling husband a heart of solid gold. He gave me wonderful memories only my heart can hold. He was someone I could talk to that no one can replace. He was someone I could laugh with until tears ran down my face. Next time we meet will be at heavens door. When I see you standing there I won’t cry anymore. I will put my arms around you and kiss your smiling face. Then the pieces of my broken heart will fall back into place.

On August 1, 2017, erbert pencer olk departed his earthly home and went to be with the Lord. Herbert was born on June 16, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the proud parents of Mr. John W. Polk and Mrs. Lillian Becton-Polk. During the early stages of Hebert’s journey, he achieved various accomplishments. The most major of his accomplishments was his acceptance of Christ at a very early age. In 1996, the Lord placed Rising Sun Outreach Ministries in the Tulane community under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Campbell. Herbert was the first member to join the church at its new location. Herbert served on the Usher’s Ministry and remained in fellowship with the church until his transition. While on his journey, Herbert attended Melrose High School and graduated in 1959. In 1962, Herbert enlisted and served proudly in the United States Army and in 1964 he was honorably discharged. In 1965, Herbert began a 25-year career as a Federal Government employee as a nursing assistant for the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and later a retired Civil Service Servant for the United States Postal Service. Herbert was known for his gifted hands as a skilled carpenter, artists, barber, but most of all fisherman.
