“I’m Free” Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call: I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found my place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow: I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savoured much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my life seemed all too brief: Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now, He set me free.
“A Broken Chain” We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

Life’s Reflections
.avorn “Red” Smith as he was affectionately known as, was born on January 5, 1951, to the Late Mr. Ed and Mrs. Hattie M. Smith Sr. in Memphis, Tn. Sadly, Lavorn had one son Broderic Smith and one grandson Dontay Smith who proceeded him in death. While Lavorn didn’t attend church regularly, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Dad graduated from Mitchell High School in 1969 where he was ( as he called it) a basketball legend!
He was a retired train conductor for Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe Railroad.
If you knew Lavorn as we did, 3 things were on his agenda to do weekly they were to shoot pool, play golf and his favorite was a good ole poker game.
Our Patriarch met the beautiful Teresa A. Bugg in Kansas and swept her off her feet. They later moved to Memphis and were united in Holy Matrimony on March 2, 1991. They were married for 30 years.
Lavorn leaves a legacy that includes a beautiful wife of 30 years, Teresa Bugg Smith; one daughter, Tiffany Smith(Courtney) five sons, Lavorn Smith Jr.(LaKita), Mario L. Smith (Stephanie), Montez Bugg (Territa), Jason Bugg Sr., and Dominic Smith, Broderic’s wife (Shayla). The additions to his legacy include his 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He leaves one brother Ed Smith Jr. One niece Shervetta ( Stacy) and one greatnephew. He leaves one sister-in-law Maria Spears; one broth-in-law David Bugg. A host of cousins, family, and friends to mourn his passing. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
