Marcella J. Ellis

was born in Memphis Shelby County TN, on July 3, 1918, to the late Robert J Johnson and Susie Nelson. Whom both preceded her in death. She was the only child. Mrs. Ellis accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age at Phoenix AME in Southaven, MS. Mrs. Ellis accepted Mr. Jimmie Ellis Sr.’s hand in marriage on October 28, 1933, and to this union, seven children were born; Dorothy “Lois,” Jimmie Jr, Richard, Bobby, Shirley “Ann,” Beverly, and Sandra. In 1943, Mrs. Ellis joined Moody Chapel CME Church where she started the first choir which she was a member of. She was the oldest church member. Mrs. Ellis was very engaged in the community; she was an active PTO member of Magnolia Elementary School. Marcella attended Larose Elementary School, BTW High School, and Proro Beauty School. Marcella and Jimmie Sr became entrepreneurs opening a clothing pressing shop. Later they opened Castalia Barber and Beauty Salon in Castalia Heights. During her journey in life, she took care of many family members as well as her own as a homemaker. Marcella enjoyed gardening; she was a sweet loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Sr, son Richard, daughter Dorothy “Lois,” and two grandchildren Lee Jr and Jimmy Bell. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons; Jimmie Jr (Shirley) and Bobby, four daughters; Shirley “Ann” (Jesse), Beverly (Charles), Sandra, and a loving stepdaughter Erma J. Bell of Flushing, MI. Her granddaughter Beverly “Trice” whom she raised as her own, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She leaves three cousins Leonia Guy, Archiland Franklin, Detroit Mi. Shirleen Walker, and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
