My Dad, Sammie Lee Woods

My DADDY was funny and cared for me so much that is what I am told. The system unjustly robbed me of years with my dad (my dad deserved to do some years but not as many as was taken from him). My mom reminds me to look at the memories that I have of my dad and me. I have heirlooms that my dad left for me to hold dear to my heart. My dad attended my graduation, and I have the wonderful, thoughtful gift he gave me and pictures. My dad drew pictures of me that look as if he grabbed my face from my picture and put it on the canvass. I guess I just want to say as the last of his seed and youngest child, my DADDY REALLY LOVED ME, and I love my daddy past and present. He made me in matrimony and with love!!!

T’aunce Xalonzo Lee Woods

Dear Dad, You gave me life. With you it all started, my life was to begin. I never thought I’d have to see the day when our time together has come to meet its end. Unexpected was this, but for you, I wish love and eternal bliss. That never-ending happiness. If I’m honest, I guess I feel lost on the inside, I feel robbed of the time that I thought was mine. 15 years came and went and well for the two years spent of interactions. The many laughs, agreements, or differences? Was I foolish to think that our time would be infinite? I wanted to know the man you were, the man you are, and the man you would be and just maybe that would fill the gaps in my mind of the unsolved mystery our relationship because of the lost time. I am grateful that it was me you had patience with. You understood me when it was you I was angry with. You showed me, love, you never once wavered it. You loved me past my hurt. Truthfully you taught me that forgiveness comes first. You came and saw me at school; you made sure you did what you possibly could. You were proud of me. You were the part of the story I had been missing or that I couldn’t see. So one day I aim to have your vision. To turn nothing into something and work with what you were given. If you wanted it, you went and did it. You were the definition of make shit happen and the epitome of vibrant laughs and the memory of you will live forever. You loved me. I loved you. He loved you more.
