Troy Miller, 95, the daughter of the late Clinton and Lizzie Miller was born July 22, 1923, in Laws Hill, Mississippi. She peacefully departed this life on

Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at The American Village in Indianapolis, Indiana. Troy was raised in a loving Christian home. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Laws Hills, Mississippi where she was baptized. Troy was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Martin Miller for almost 50 years. Upon moving to Memphis, Tennessee in 1955, they joined Beulah Baptist Church. She remained actively involved in her church joining the Mother Board and was a member of the church choir. Troy would go on to work for many years in the dry-cleaning industry as a seamstress. She also provided home daycare service to family and friends. In her early years, Troy had a love for cooking. She would go on to cook and provide meals daily for the laborers working in the fields. She never lost her passion for cooking for her family and friends. She was well known for her delicious homemade cakes and dinner rolls. Troy’s southern hospitality was evident whenever you visited. There was always a home cooked meal on the stove. A Southern tradition Troy learned from her father before someone invited a person to eat they would say, “wash your hands and have something to eat.” Troy continued this tradition throughout her entire life. Many times people would laugh or make a joke whenever she would say this. To Troy it didn’t matter. . . “just wash your hands before you eat, and don’t waste.” In 1977, Troy completed her adult education in Shelby County, Memphis Tennessee. If you knew her, you knew that education and a relationship with the LORD were mandatory no matter who you were. In her later years, Troy joined Orange Mound Senior Citizens group. They were involved in various senior community activities, one of which highlighted one of her favorite past times, gardening. In 2000, she placed first, second, and third in the Memphis Urban Garden Contest. She believed in contributing to the community in any way she could. During the 2000’s, seniors were honored with an award for their services in Nashville, Tennessee. Other activities included singing in The Etta Richie Gospel Choir. Troy was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Miller, and her daughter, Ruby Cile Miller; brother’s Harry, Elcue, and Kelly; and sister Remolia; her step-brother and sisters Nathan, Reola, Rosa, and Ozell. Troy will be forever loved and cherished by her three daughters Lynell Miller, of Indianapolis Indiana, Beatrice Peete (Paul) of Matteson, Illinois, and Verene Graham of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a grandson whom she and her husband and her daughter, Ruby raised, Calvin Miller of Memphis, TN; one sister, Elmira Curry, of Waterford, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren, 36 greatgrandchildren, 44 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

~God’s Garden ~

God looked around his garden ~ And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth ~And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you ~ And lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful ~He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering ~ He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never ~ Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough ~ And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids ~And whispered, ‘Peace be thine’. It broke our hearts to lose you ~ But you didn’t go alone, For part of us went with you ~The day God called you home.

~Love The Family The family of the late Troy Miller wishes to express its sincere gratitude for your prayers and all other acts of kindness shown during the loss of our loved one.
