Psalm 31

Vivian Marie Davis

was born on May 9, 1955, the fourth child of four children to the union of Lonnie Davis, Jr. and Ever Lee Monroe who preceded her in death. She grew up in a Christian home where she was taught to sing, pray and serve the Lord. In the evening on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, while in a peaceful sleep, Vivian went to take her rest in the waiting arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Methodist Hospital on Union. Vivian accepted Christ at the age of 12 under the leadership of Pastor M. L. Cooper at Oak Hill M. B. Church. As a student, Vivian attended Hanley Elementary, Dunbar Elementary, Bethel Grove Elementary, Peabody Jr. High and Melrose High School and continued her education of higher learning she attended Shelby State Community College where she received her Associates of Arts degree in Early Childhood Development. Her preparedness aided her in becoming the director of Merryland Day Care Center where she cared for and prepared many children for preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Vivian was a dedicated teacher who loved her profession, her co-workers and moreover lovingly the children. Vivian leaves to cherish her memories, a sister Phyllis Davis Miller (Percy), Muscle Shoals, Alabama, two brothers, Minister Lonnie Davis, III (Janice), Memphis, Tennessee and Minister Louis Edward Davis (Jacqueline) of Riverside, Califonia, extended family members, Nefitete Phelps and Sharon Jones. Vivian (Peggy) had some of the most dedicated and dearest friends any one person could ever hope to have in a lifetime. Shirley Subrather Collins, Tyria Watkins Perkins and Donna Patton of whom can be evenly placed as her sisters in Christ. A grandmother Mrs. Bernice Davis, Missouri City, Texas. Vivian has five awesome nephews who loved her very dearly; Ricardo Miller, Lonnie Davis, IV, Kevin B. Davis, Nicholas D. Davis, and Al Reco Davis. Then came two great nieces, Ricaria Miller and Kiera Davis. Vivian was a willing worker for Christ Jesus, serving as an Usher, Sunday School Ministry, Bible Study Ministry, Senior Leaders, Christian Women, Ruth Circle and Church Women United.

Invictus

by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, and yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
