A DRAMATIC 2014

2014 has so far been full of drama for us, but only in the positive sense! It’s been fantastic to have two pieces of first-class theatre scheduled in one year and for them to be so well-received by audiences; in recent years drama has become a notoriously hard sell. Dracula was the first live play to grace the stage this year, but without doubt, the big coup for us has to be Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap which is coming here as part of its 60th anniversary tour. For one week only, the world’s longest running play will be showing live on our stage. It’s considered the greatest murder mystery of all time and we’re honoured to be one of the venues selected for its tour. Theatre aside and, as ever, we have a wide variety of shows lined up from May to September including comedians Russell Kane, Rich Hall and witty observationist Pam Ayres, not to mention the legendary Madness frontman, Suggs, with his own one-man show. We have live 2

www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk

music from Courtney Pine, Nerina Pallot, and tribute acts The Simon & Garfunkel Story, The Elvis Years and OASIS UK. Dance lovers can enjoy the world-class Tap Factory and Strictly Come Dancing stars Pasha and Katya. Plus we continue with our National Theatre Live and Royal Shakespeare Company screenings, and there’s an exclusive screening of Andre Rieu’s 10th Anniversary Concert. In other JOH news, we’ve received recognition from the National Theatre for our marketing, we’re looking for new members to join our Friends Club and we’re appealing for more stewards to add to our existing volunteers. There’s a lot going on so come and play your part! Our children’s drama classes the Dragons and the Chameleons are once again fully-subscribed for the summer term! This May marks the start of our classes for 11-13 year olds - the Komodo Dragons. Sessions will be on Thursday evenings and ten classes cost £85. Book a place by contacting admin@jerseyoperahouse.co.uk Jasmine Hendry Theatre Director

A DONATION OF NOTE We would like to thank local charitable organisation, the De Lancey and De La Hanty Foundation, for safeguarding the future of our Steinway. The foundation, which supports and offers funding to the fields of medicine, law, education and culture, has kindly granted a total of £10,175 to refurbish the piano, so its much-needed repair works can be undertaken this year.

JUST THE MEAL TICKET Dining at OH! Cafébar on show nights allows you to relax while the drama unfolds around you. You don’t need to worry about missing the start of the performance because you’re still finishing your meal around the corner. Instead, you can enjoy a more leisurely in-house dining experience, with pre-show suppers prepared by our award-winning chef from as little as £14.50 for two courses. OH! Cafébar Tel: (01534) 511 106

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Walking into OH! Cafébar each month is a totally new experience; there’s always something different to see thanks to local artists and photographers showcasing their work on the walls. Once again we’re booked up for the next few months but we’re looking for exhibitors for the latter part of the year. Interested? BOND! This one-man show is an unauthorised parody of the Bond phenomenon, written and performed by Gavin Robertson. In his latest physical cartoon style adventure - spoofing characters adored by millions and exploding every cliché in the book(s) - Bond meets his greatest arch-villain yet Ian Fleming himself.

Courtesy of a time-machine, and featuring the smallest car chase (n)ever seen, Robertson performs solo with minimum props and maximum effect! His brand of physical comedy has toured the world with past productions including The Six-Sided Man, Spittoon and 2010 A Space Oddity. www.gavinrobertson.com Twitter: @comgavrob
