A MOMENTOUS YEAR Other highlights this season include Stephen Triffitt flying in, with a 16 piece live orchestra, to be Frankly Sinatra just in time for the International Air Display, and the Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet’s inaugural visit to the island with its productions of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker in January, accompanied by a full live orchestra.

2015 is a big year for Jersey Opera House, with two milestone anniversaries to celebrate; 115 years since Jersey Opera House opened its doors and 150 years of a theatre in Gloucester Street. To commemorate we have reduced our annual membership to £15 and have planned various events for the year, including a specially commissioned 150th Gala Evening in November, an exclusive film screening of Strictly for Pleasure; the swansong of the theatre as a cinema in 1958, and curated art exhibitions to showcase a century and a half of theatre and culture. 2015 also marks 150 years of Alice in Wonderland in print, so fittingly we are showing Wonderland; a commissioned piece written by 13 world renowned classical composers and narrated by local actor Andrew Davey. Classical music lovers will also enjoy Baroque by Candlelight in September and, of course, two nights of classical crossover artist Russell Watson in December. 2

www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk

October marks the return of our Met Opera screenings and this season there are some exciting productions from the National Theatre Live, notably Benedict Cumberbatch starring as Hamlet. Theatregoers should also make a diary note to see Coronation Street’s Krissi Bohn in The Bogus Woman performed live in our studio.

And let’s not forget our cracking comedy line-up with Al Murray The Pub Landlord, Josh Widdicombe, Dave Gorman, Andy Parsons and the turbulent trolley dolly Pam Ann. There’s a lot going on and we hope you will be a part of the celebrations to mark 150 years of theatre. Jasmine Hendry Theatre Director

EXHIBITIONS THROUGH THE ERAS From September to January the walls of OH! Cafébar will be dedicated to our anniversary celebrations. Each month a different exhibition will showcase a century and a half of theatre and culture with vintage posters, past show programmes (such as this brochure’s front cover), performers, stewards, and this classic photograph of a horse in the auditorium!

OH! NEW HEAD CHEF Not only does OH! Cafébar have a delicious new menu, it also has a new Head Chef. Andrei Bejan has worked in hospitality for nearly eight years, three and a half of which have been with Jersey Opera House. Andrei’s favourite dish is Fiver Thursday as he gets to let his creativity flow by making a different dish every week – and the customers love that it costs just £5! Book now to try Andrei’s new menu: OH! Cafébar (01534) 511 106 / OHCafebar@jerseyoperahouse.co.uk

I BELIEVE IN UNICORNS

Adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s story, this intimate show is set in a library full of books that hold more than stories within their pages. It is a tale of the power of books and the bravery of a young boy called Tomas. Tomas hates reading and school, but his world is turned upside down the day he meets the Unicorn Lady... An enchanting and interactive production, I Believe in Unicorns sparks imagination in both young and old. We challenge you not to believe in unicorns after joining Tomas’ spellbinding journey. Book Swap There is a book swap, which is integral to the show. Audience members are invited to bring along a favourite children’s book to form part of the set and then swap it at the end for another book. (This is not obligatory and we do have extra books for those who cannot bring one with them) A family show suitable for 6 years+ and everyone else who loves stories.
