A CLASSIC START TO THE YEAR What better way to start the year than with the first visit of the Saint Petersburg Classic Ballet presenting their production of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker with a full live orchestra, followed by a night with mountaineer and storyteller Andy Kirkpatrick and a spectacular Rock ‘n Roll tribute with Hats off to Led Zeppelin.

2015 has been a big year for Jersey Opera House from every point of view. We have celebrated 150 years of a theatre in Gloucester Street with various events throughout the year and a very special gala night on the 21st of November with almost 100 local artists on stage.

Other highlights include the return of Dinosaur Zoo with a brand new show, comedians Ed Byrne and Jimeoin are bringing their hilarious shows to the island and Circus of Horrors is celebrating 21 years of the wildest show on earth! If you are a TED follower, don’t miss the screening of the opening night of this worldwide phenomenon live from Vancouver. As we are constantly updating our event calendar keep up-to-date with the latest listings by checking our website, Facebook and Twitter or why not follow us on our new Instagram account for the best behind the scenes photos?

After a huge 2015 we didn’t want 2016 to be less exciting, so we have lined up an array of shows for the months ahead. 2

BIZET’S LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES LIVE SCREENING

Bizet’s gorgeous opera of lust and longing set in the Far East returns to the Met stage for the first time in 100 years. Soprano Diana Damrau stars as Leïla, the beautiful Hindu priestess pursued by rival pearl divers competing for her hand. Her suitors are tenor Matthew Polenzani and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing the lilting duet Au fond du temple saint, which opera fans know and adore. Director Penny Woolcock explores the timeless themes of pure love, betrayal, and vengeance in a production that vividly creates an undersea world on stage.

Conductor Gianandrea Noseda brings his romantic flair to the lush score from the composer of Carmen.

NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE:

LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES LIVE SCREENING

Following the hugely successful broadcasts of Coriolanus and King Lear, National Theatre Live brings the Donmar Warehouse’s highly anticipated new production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses to cinemas – broadcast live from the Donmar’s London home. Directed by Josie Rourke (Coriolanus), the cast includes Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Janet McTeer (The White Queen) and Dominic West (The Wire). In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalised the world. Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton’s irresistible adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s thirty year anniversary. 10

Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.

IN THE STUDIO

A hothouse for emerging creative talent, a typical Plays Rough evening mixes a handful of brand new short plays together with original music and poetry. As one of the island’s forums for developing new work, the atmosphere is fun and informal, crackling with creativity. What it lacks in elaborate set and overall polish, it more than makes

up for in raw talent. Plays debuted at Plays Rough have gone on to London theatres and UK festivals. Plus the tickets are cheap!
