JEREMY HARDY LIVE 2016 Jeremy Hardy is in his fourth decade as a stand‑up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 32 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 32 years to go. In 2014, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”. However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio, his television credits include: Jack Dee’s Election Helpdesk (BBC2), QI (BBC1), Mock The Week (BBC2), Grumpy Old Men (BBC1), Back In The Day (BBC2), Not Tonight With John Sergeant (BBC2). He is also on the road all year round and has never stopped doing live shows since 1984. After briefly hibernating in the winter, he’s back out on the road in 2016. 14+ (Parental Guidance) Likely to be swearing and adult content www.jeremyhardy.co.uk

A hothouse for emerging creative talent, a typical Plays Rough evening mixes a handful of brand new short plays together with original music and poetry. As the Island’s only forum for developing new work, the atmosphere is fun and informal, crackling with creativity. What it lacks in elaborate sets and overall polish, it more than makes up for in raw talent. Plays debuted at Plays Rough have gone on to London theatres and UK festivals. 36

SIKES AND NANCY IN THE STUDIO
Direct from the West End. James Swanton enacts the compelling and terrible story of Dickens’ most terrible murder. His tour‑de‑force performance of this masterpiece of gothic melodrama sees him transform seamlessly from the revolting Fagin to the unfortunate Nancy; from the righteous Brownlow to the ferocious and terrifying Sikes. This bravura storytelling is exciting, dark, physical and brutish. Charles Dickens adapted Sikes & Nancy from the grislier material in Oliver Twist. These notorious readings shocked audiences into silence; women would scream and faint. ‘I shall tear myself to pieces,’ Dickens vowed before one performance. In fact, it is now thought that the strain of the readings hastened Dickens’ early death.
