PLAY YOUR PART
In 2014 we’re asking you to Play Your Part and support the local arts. It’s been tough times for the industry these past few years, particularly for theatres in the UK and, while we always remain positive, we do rely on your help. There are so many ways in which you can be involved with Jersey Opera House; support the shows, become a member, be a sponsor, volunteer as a steward, leave a legacy, hire our event facilities or simply dine at OH! Cafébar.
We are confident that 2014 is going to be a show-stopper of a year at your premier theatre. We have plenty in store including the Moscow City Ballet and accompanying live orchestra, Suggs, Ruby Wax, comedians Russell Kane and Jason Manford, and new seasons from the Met Opera and National Theatre Live with the live début screening of War Horse. As you will no doubt know, today we offer far more than just shows. We host workshops and Children’s Drama Classes in our studio, corporate and private functions in our new and improved venue spaces, and we can now boast an award-winning Head Chef on our Catering Team. So don’t be a no-show. Let’s see you here in 2014! Jasmine Hendry Theatre Director

Arnold Palmer. His retirement from international golf at the (relatively early) age of 38 led to a full-time career “on the other side of the ropes.”
Formerly a world-class golfer in his own right with eight Ryder Cup appearances and 21 professional tournaments under his belt, Peter is now best known for his commentating.
Peter once claimed that he’s a golf commentator only because he’s “there as an old player, a lover of the game and a good weaver of stories”. Modesty would prevent him saying that Golf Digest described him as “the greatest golf commentator ever” – but to many that’s what he is.
He made his broadcasting debut way back in 1961, as part of the BBC team covering the Open Championship at Birkdale which was won by

JASON MANFORD ‘FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS’
Everybody’s favourite northern comedian, Jason Manford promises to deliver a wealth of comedy anecdotes, misunderstandings and audience banter, all with his likeable charm and teasingly intelligent wit. Jason has had a busy time since he was last on the road, winning ITV’s Born To Shine and joining Alfie Boe on tour, prior to starring in critically acclaimed west-end hit musical Sweeney Todd. However, his comedy bones weren’t completely idle as he enjoyed appearances on QI (BBC Two), Big Fat Quiz of the Year (Channel 4), and Comedy World Cup (Channel 4). Jason said: “Some of you might think I’ve had a career change what with all the opera and musical theatre. Not a chance, I’m excited to be getting back to what I really love most – stand up!” Appearing on Live at the Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and hosting Show Me The Funny have all helped establish Jason as a nationally renowned and loved comic.

BY BRAM STOKER
1897. Mankind is on the cusp of vast technological change and media innovation, but an altogether darker fear is emerging. As Dracula’s shadow looms large over England, a small group of young men and women, led by Professor Van Helsing, are locked in a struggle for survival. Stretching from London, through provincial England, to the mountainous wastes of Transylvania, Bram Stoker’s timeless gothic thriller embodies the struggle to break taboos, resist temptation and stop the unknown outside becoming the enemy within. Adapted by John Ginman, this brilliant theatrical treatment of Bram Stoker’s adventure blends Victorian Gothic with the Contemporary. With specially-commissioned live music, powerful ensemble performances and innovative design, Blackeyed Theatre’s Dracula promises an exciting and thought-provoking theatrical experience.

Stephen Fry
A brand new stage show touring in Spring 2014 Ruby Wax – comedian, writer, mental health campaigner – shows us just how our minds can send us mad as our internal critics play on a permanent loop tape. Ruby knows this only too well. She has been on a tough but enlightening journey through depression which has taken her from The Priory through to an MA from Oxford University in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy. IN THE STUDIO
Following a highly successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Tom Owen (Last of the Summer Wine) reprises his role as the misfortunately named hero in Fiona Baddeley’s production of Samuel Beckett’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece. It is 69 year-old Krapp’s birthday. He sits in his ‘den’ preparing for his yearly ritual of recording his reflections about his life and his decisions on a tape-recorder. Described by Beckett as ‘filled up to his teeth with bitterness’, Krapp hovers between life and death, the past and present, comedy and tragedy. The show is followed by a Q & A with Tom Owen.

MARK THOMAS: 100 ACTS OF MINOR DISSENT
APRIL
FRI 25
Mark Thomas is well-versed in the art of creative mayhem and over the years his troublemaking has changed laws, cost companies millions and annoyed those who most deserved to be. Now he returns to what he does best; mischief or rather joyously bad behaviour with purpose... After his award-winning show Bravo Figaro, Mark sets himself the task of committing 100 Acts of Minor Dissent in the space of one year. Mark catalogues everything from the smallest and silliest gesture to the grandest confrontations - and the results are subversive, hilarious, mainly legal and occasionally inspiring. www.markthomasinfo.co.uk

Throughout 2014, The Salvation Army Jersey will be celebrating the 135th anniversary of this memorable arrival, the highlight of which promises to be 36
