seaside vacation house competition summer 2010 team: mikhail kim, jesse wetzel

site: coast of chile program: vacation house for owners and visitors to be built in phases project interests: create own site in a contextless setting through terrain changes and building massing, separate the functions of the house into independent volumes arranged along two site walls.

bridging nc communications center spring 2007 professors: patrick rand, dennis stallings

site: outer banks, corolla, nc program: think thank retreat, cafe, restaurant, library, auditorium, conference rooms, gallery, lighthouse society offices project interests: bridging of differing site conditions through programmatic organization, exploring the skin to structure relationship through a rigid repetitive frame structure and a light skin that shifts, opens, and closes across it.

pulling lines duke university student union fall 2006 professors: susan cannon, jeffrey lee

site: duke university east campus durham, nc program: student commons, offices, cafe, cafeteria, meeting rooms project interests: architecture as an infrastructure. the solid masses of the building are formed by projecting lines from the surrounding context. these blocks make up the opaque infrastructural pieces. the open ‘negative’ spaces remain as a flexible program shell. the overall programmatic strategy is a public to private gradient in section from the front to the rear of the building.
